The SpaceOur cozy sanctuary stays comfortably cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The welcoming decor will charm your spirit. There's plenty of space to spread out and enjoy yourself. Guest AccessThe apartment has a full kitchen (minus a stove), washer/dryer, and TV/DVD with plenty of entertaining videos. The bedroom is set up for two people, and the living room contains a small memory foam couch/double futon that's perfect for one or two additional people who don't mind being cozy together. There is a full bath, stocked with soaps, shampoos, and a blow dryer. If you're not out exploring, it's the perfect place for rest and relaxation. We just added a downstairs deck with a barbeque and table and chairs and a separate, semi-private area with a hot tub! The weather is usually perfect for an evening soak. You are also welcome to venture to the upstairs deck to enjoy the beautiful view of the water. And if we are already there (which we often are), please join us! Interaction with GuestsWe love to meet our guests over some hors d'oeuvres or a glass of wine whenever possible. We will certainly make the effort to get to know you if time permits. We both work regular typical hours, but most evenings one or both of us are present to help you with whatever you may need. Or, if you want privacy, we are happy to let you enjoy your stay without unnecessary disturbance. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is the perfect blend of safe and quiet with close proximity to downtown. It is rich with nice walks and great views. The waterfront is a short 15 minute stroll through the historic and welcoming downtown. Getting AroundIf you are coming by car, there is plenty of free street parking. The City of Benicia and Solano County provide inexpensive public buses for travel in and around the area. The bus stop is a short walk away. The nearby Vallejo Ferry is an excellent way to get into San Francisco from here. There is also a train in and out of Martinez, which is just across the Carquinez Straits. The nearest BART stations are Concord or Walnut Creek. If we happen to be coming through the area, we may be able to pick you up from the train or BART station. Other Things to NoteThere are many wonderful sites to explore in the North Bay. In addition to nearby San Francisco and wineries, there is great local music and art, hiking, and bicycling. The Cities of Benicia and Vallejo host many fun community activities year round. There are tennis courts, yoga studios, community pools, and paddle sports for those who crave physical activities. Our apartment is a one bedroom apartment best suited for two people. However, we can accommodate up to two additional people on the futon in the living room. We charge an additional $25 per person after the first two people per night. The additional person charge is also added to weekly and monthly rates.

Our apartment also features comfortable sofa furniture in the Living Room, and a Queen Size Bed in the Bedroom. Plus Free & Secure High-Speed Wi-Fi. We are 1 block from Downtown Benicia, with a historic Main Street ambiance, shops, restaurants, bars and a waterfront that is truly exceptional. Benicia is home to California's First Capital building in 1851, which is one block from our home, as well as the "final stop on the line" for the historic Pony Express, and the famous Benicia Arsenal, a US Military Fort dating back to the 1840's. Benicia is a fabulous place to visit and enjoy, and the perfect place to use as your "Base Camp" to explore the World Class San Francisco Bay Area. Our apartment is attached (1st level downstairs), but completely private and separate from our main house. You may come and go as you please, with a separate entrance. We will be available on site to help you with anything you need---restaurants, stores, nightclubs and bars, directions, things to see and do, and little out of the way spots that Kathy & I like to visit that makes life in the Bay Area so charming and very special. Guest AccessAs our Guest, you will have our entire apartment that has a private, separate entrance. There is free parking in our driveway behind our home, and on the same level as the apartment. You can also park on the street in front. Also as our Guest, you may use our front and side porch. Please feel free to enjoy a glass of wine or a snack on our porch, and our really great view of the water. Interaction with GuestsDear Guests, We are very happy to answer any questions you may have, and give you suggestions on what to do and where to go in Benicia (or the SF Bay Area/Napa/Sonoma), or local places to shop or eat, etc. Please also refer to our Benicia Guidebook (in our Airbnb listing & also in the Red Folder on the TV table in the Living Room), for our recommendations for restaurants, places to go, and things to see and do in the area. Please feel free to ask us anything---we really want to do our best to make sure your travel experience to Benicia & NorCal/San Francisco/Napa-Sonoma is as wonderful as it can possibly be !! We sincerely hope you have a fabulous time with us, and experience all that Benicia, the Wine Country, and San Francisco has to offer. Thanks very much, Kathy & Barry The NeighborhoodWe are one block from downtown, can walk to supermarket, restaurants & bars, and Main Street Shops & Boutiques. Sit on a picnic bench and watch the sunset just 300 feet from our house. Enjoy the Sunset on the Bay, and the peaceful ambience of the Ocean Waves. Getting AroundTo see San Francisco, Napa/Sonoma, the Russian River, etc., you can drive, or catch the SF Bay Ferry (10-12 Minutes to Ferry Terminal) or the BART Subway (10-12 Mins to Concord Station). Easy access to the entire SF Bay Area. In Benicia, we are one (1) block from First Street, which is the Main Street of Benicia. Numerous Restaurants, gift shops, boutiques & clothing stores, the Safeway, and sports bars, pizza spots, and classy night clubs are located all along First Street. It's all just a 5-10 minute walk from our home. Other Things to NoteThe weather in Benicia is typically about 60F at night and 75-80F during the day in the Summer, and about 45-50F at night and 60-70F during the day in the Winter. Classic San Francisco cool nights and warm days, except when it's NOT !! (LOL). Weather can change in the Bay Area very quickly, so dress in layers and be prepared. Please be sure to bring a jacket for when "Mr. Fog" decides to roll in, and prepare for unexpected hot or cold in this area. As W.C. Fields was quoted to say: "The coldest days I have spent, is a summer in San Francisco." It's a fantastic climate we live in, but just prepare for hot, cold, and everything in between.

The SpaceThe studio with windows on three sides sits atop a 1940s cottage. It has its own bath attached, with grey marble sink, skylight, granite counter-top, and tub -- there is no stand-up shower. There is, however, a hand-held phone style shower in the tub. Its surround and the bathroom floor have been recently marble tiled. The main room has a single bed, with reading light and side table, arm/rocking chair with footstool, television and larger mahogany table with two chairs. The suite also offers a microwave, small fridge and dishes, along with a book shelf of eclectic reading. Although not a full kitchen, the microwave, and fridge allow simple nourishment if you do not feel like eating in one of the variety of good restaurants within a 15-20 minute walk or a 5-10 minute drive. The cottage has a small garden in the front with a brick walkway and a large rather random garden in the back. It has a deck with barbeque (which you are welcome to use) and umbrella - shaded table and chairs, as well as a place for relaxing under the Hawthorne tree. You are invited to enjoy all. Guest AccessThere is a sensor-lighted walkway beside the cottage through the wisteria crowned gate, and a private entrance off the garden deck. Your key will admit you and a stairway takes you directly to your studio abode. Feel free to linger on the deck or wander/sit in the garden. Interaction with GuestsI will be here on your arrival and sometimes during your stay. If I am at home we will share the outdoor premises and the washer/dryer ($7 per load), but your studio with its amenities is solely yours. You control the key and I will not enter without your permission (baring emergency). If I'm not in residence I will be available by text/ phone or email if you need anything. The NeighborhoodBenicia, briefly the capitol of CA during gold rush days, and named after the governor's beloved wife, is a charming small town in the San Francisco East Bay. A well kept secret from the (website hidden) tech boom, it is located about an hour from SF, 35-40 minutes from the wonderful .;wine country in Napa and Sonoma, 20-25 minutes from Berkeley, 45 minutes from UC Davis, and only a couple of hours from Carmel. This waterfront town (it sits on the Carquinez Strait ideal for boat races) is not entirely gentrified, nor does it have any big box stores, but boasts a main street with antique shops and restaurants (offering most cuisines), which often provide a destination for weekenders from near and far. It also features a sought after marina, and an active art scene, with art studios, walks and galleries including the famed Nourot glass studio, well known for its exquisite collections including those commissioned by Pope John Paul and sitting presidents. There are walking/hiking paths nearby, including a national park and the marina, which offers opportunities for boating, kayaking, etc. You might like to follow the link and check out the Benicia Chamber of Commerce website at: (website hidden) Getting AroundA car (or bicycle, if you are an avid rider) is a good idea as public transportation is limited and Benicia shops/restaurants are a 15-30 minute walk. Bart trains are 9 miles away, as are the ferries to SF, which provide a 'zen' way to travel into the city and to Marin county. Other Things to NoteCurrently the irises are in bloom--golden, lilac, cobalt, raspberry/chocolate, peach and white. The hawthorn tree is beginning to turn pink/yellow, and the pomegranate tree promises an abundant crop; the plum trees have already submitted indication of their intent. Hummingbirds and bluejays assume a sense of priority, despite the threat of neighborhood cats. Usually the two camps work it out, allowing time for both to enjoy the territory. The squirrels and other visiting animals take it for granted that the place is theirs. This is not a groomed urban garden, but more the rambling rural kind, where anything that blooms must stake its place and claim victory over long term resident weeds. Indeed the red lettuce and the Mexican flower grass crowd the roses. While here, please help yourself to the parsley, rosemary and thyme, as well as the fore mentioned red lettuce.

You can watch TV or lounge in the sunroom,or sip wine on the overhanging deck. I will be available if needed and can help with any inquiries you might have about restaurants shops etc in the area. The freeways can take you to all the the other interesting sites around the Bay Area. There is a bus that can take you to the BART station, but having a car would be very useful to get to the ferry to San Francisco, or take a trip up to Napa or a trip to the ocean or a 2 1/2 hour journey to lake Tahoe Where ever you are going Benicia is a MUST stop on the way there, and once here you may not want to go any further. Guest AccessThe whole house. Interaction with GuestsIt is my home so naturally you are invited to come and chat and hang out with me but you also are able to be by yourself and relax and do your own thing in my home. If you want to rent the whole house this can be arranged The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is away from the hustle and bustle on a nice quiet street yet a 2 minute walk to the Southampton Shopping Center . Take your car to First Street Benicia,(5 minutes away) and stroll through the antiques shops, stopping at the many bars and restaurants. Getting AroundThere are public buses that can take you over the bridge to the BART station, or the main train line in Martinez, but to be honest most people use their cars. Our bridges have tolls; $5 (you only have to pay one way) Other Things to NoteMy dog Charlie will be around and he just loves guests , and all guests really seem to like having him around also!
