The Space The house itself is kid friendly. There aren't fancy antiques and knick knacks that you have to constantly keep an eye on. We are casual and clean. Interaction with GuestsSome of our guests we never lay eyes on. Others, their children are waiting on the step to help w/ chores when we wake up in the morning. We value your privacy. Some folks like to interact and visit a little, others are quiet and keep to themselves often looking for a place to get away from it all, relax, refresh, reconnect w/ nature and each other and we respect that. The NeighborhoodThere is a family restaurant with a bar right in Benson Village, a village store for milk and bread, gas, beer and wine, G&L is another small family owned store on 22a that makes pizza, sandwiches, creemies, has gas, milk bread, beer, etc. We are close to Castleton University and Green Mountain College. Middlebury College and St. Joseph's College are a little further but an easy drive. Getting AroundRutland Regional Airport is less than 30 minutes from us. Burlington, VT and Albany, NY are our closest bigger airports. There are several Amtrak stop points not far from us. Castleton, VT and Whitehall, NY are probably the closest. Other Things to NoteWatch "Farmer Bob" milk the cow. Chores are at 6 p.m. (usually). This is when we see the most of our guests. They like to visit with all the animals. Many of our guests, both young and old like to feed the cows and goats! You may even be able to help with the chickens and get a few VERY fresh eggs to cook for your breakfast!

The SpaceOur 1830's farm house was previously owned by a fabulous artist that did mosaic tile design. You will notice the colorful back splash in our kitchen has red winged black birds on reeds, a common site looking out from the deck! The East wing has a new but quaint feel, recently restored with all new rooms. Guest AccessOur guests may stroll through all of our all organic fields, meadows , and gardens, picking flower bouquets and edible herbs or adding some fresh bio-dynamic produce to meals. For more spiritual retreats we have available meditation gardens and special contemplative trails, and are next door to Shaw Mtn Reserve, a secluded eco-preserve with hiking. Interaction with GuestsIn residence and offsite support is available. Holistic health services on site, by prior appointment. Personalized Yoga, Tai-chi, Qigong, and Meditation classes available. The NeighborhoodWhen you stroll up to the high points of our pasture lands you will see an amazingly long vista of the Green Mountains, and just a peek of the Adirondacks from behind the trees. On a quiet afternoon you might hear a distant train whistle coming across Lake Champlain, a few miles away. Many painters and photographers love our place for the view, which looks more like Tuscany or upcountry Maui. The village of Benson, seems like Mayberry from the 1950's. Be sure to enjoy the general store! The surrounding area is rich in colonial history and natural beauty, with dairy cows often outnumbering the locals! We are about an hour from Killington , Burlington, or Lake George, and 40 minutes from Middlebury and Vergennes. There are good restaurants in Fair Haven, Brandon, and Shoreham, or try the Wheel Inn in the village. Getting AroundAmtrak offers daily service from Castleton VT, with taxi available. Other Things to NoteOur friendly kitty Ebony does not enter the guest spaces. She does patrol the kitchen briefly both morning and evening.
