The SpaceOur house has been under restoration and renovation for a number of years. We have cleared the creek of weeds... lantana, privet and pittosporum and managed the flow of water. We now have a clear creek with platypus... But you're not staying in the creek!! No No!! We have also been slowly and carefully fixing up and restoring the house.. we are not millionaires... this has taken time and effort... and is ongoing. It is by no means complete. There will probably always be something being done.. you may see evidence of work in progress... you'll see the tractor and bits and pieces... we will not be able to hide all this away. We have vague plans of establishing a lavendar farm! Rest assured you will not be woken up by the tractor in the early morning, or at any stage.( unless you request it!) We do feel though that we are now able to offer you a comfortable, welcoming, relaxed place to stay for your visit to this lovely and popular part of the NSW coast. We look forward to meeting and hope you enjoy your stay. This listing is for bedroom #3 See seperate listings for bedrooms #1 and #2 Please see other listings for many more words about us and our place. The SpaceThe cottages are snug because they were built along passive solar principles. Most of the windows face north to let in the winter sun and there are wide eaves to block out the summer sun. Mudbricks give the cottages a high thermal mass to store heat and smooth out the day-night temperature variation. Guest AccessIn between the cottages is a large games room where your children and you can play foozball or table-tennis, have a barbecue or just relax with a book. There is also a pool table - sorry kids, adults only. Out the back is a badminton court for the more active. Or try the boulles court to see whether you are ready to take on the champions of France and Italy. Our latest favourite game is Kubb (also known as 'Viking Chess') which is popular in northern Europe Interaction with GuestsThe cottages are self-contained. You only need to talk to us if you want to find out about the spectacular places to drive, cycle, walk or swim in the local area and which are our favourite wineries? The NeighborhoodAcross the street from the end of our driveway is a delightfully quiet place to dangle a line into Broughton Creek, or walk a few hundred metres to its confluence with the Shoalhaven River. Just down the road is a boat ramp. Put your canoe into Broughton Creek, paddle out into the middle of the Shoalhaven River and over to Numbaa Island. Canoe around it and be astounded by the variety and number of waterbirds. Or take part in the annual Bridge to Bridge regatta from the bridge on Coolangatta Road near Berry. Walk along the creek, over the hill, up Coolangatta mountain, and far far away. Or just around the property looking for the endangered, green and golden bell frog. Bring your binoculars to look for Black Shouldered Kites, Wedge Tailed or Sea eagles and pelicans. One of our favourite walks is to Drawing Room Rocks, near Berry. Only a 15 minutes walk from here is Two Figs Winery - the view of the Shoalhaven River flowing from the mountains to the sea is spectacular Getting AroundBomaderry train station is a flat 20 minute ride from Back Forest Retreat. There are four services daily weekdays to and fro the railway station. The train and bus will take you to the airport. Other Things to NoteOne of the many delightful local drives is a circuit past Cambewarra Lookout, through Kangaroo Valley to the historic Hampden Bridge, over the mountains again to Berry, along Beach Road to Seven-Mile Beach, past Coolangatta winery and then back home again. The drive can be done in an hour, but why not take a picnic lunch and make a day of it? Only 40 minutes away is Huskisson where you can take Dolphin cruises any time of year. And a few kilometres from there is Hyams Beach, recognised by the Guinness Book of Records for the world's whitest sands. In between are a number of beautiful calm beaches which are suitable for swimming and snorkelling. Seven Mile Beach, Jervis Bay and Morton National Parks are all within half an hour's drive, so whether you like to explore nature near the surf, still water or the mountains, you will not be disappointed. Now open every Sunday, Bundanon was Arthur Boyd's home. His studio is set up the way he left it and it doesn't take much imagination to visualise him there, painting the beautiful vistas of his beloved Shoalhaven. The SpaceLane's end is a contemporary architect designed restoration project that has (nearly!) been completed by award winning master builder and owner of the house J2 Build South Coast. The design features extensive use of recycled timbers, natural stone and restored period features. The open plan living space is a perfect backdrop for the owners art collection. This area flows onto outdoor dining areas with views over the stunning 100 year old gardens. In the paddock adjacent to the main house is a cottage that is currently being restored. This cottage is occasionally used by the owners on weekends but has a separate orientation & entrance and does not overlook the property. (see aerial image for location). Guest AccessThe house is set up for entertaining and relaxing. You are welcome to use our fully equipped kitchen, read from our extensive library, have your kids make use of toys, puzzles, dvd's and books. The large herb and vegetable garden is there to augment your meals, the orange and lemon trees will provide you with juice and the chickens onsite should provide plenty of eggs for Sunday breakfast. Interaction with GuestsThis is not a B&B with a hovering host nor a hotel with ironed sheets and a defeceit of soul. We would like you to enjoy our property with peace and privacy. There is a cottage in the paddock to the west of the property that we are renovating and stay in when we have guests in the house that has its own private entrance and does not share the same aspect (please look at the aerial photo of the property for proximity to house). If you have any dramas we are close at hand. Otherwise you may only see us in passing as we feed the animals. Please see the aerial image of the property to get a good idea of proximity and spaces. The NeighborhoodWe moved here because it seemed to be the place where you can have the best of every world- 2 hrs to Sydney, 10 minutes to unspoilt surf beaches, a stunning rural landscape and close access to national parks and inland rivers. The food culture is sensational and the town includes some fantastic shopping and great restaurants. Located 142 km south of Sydney via the Princes Highway and 10 m above sea level, Berry, has changed from being a quiet rural service town meeting the needs of the surrounding farming district to the thriving boutique village that it is today. Getting AroundThere is a direct train from Sydney to Berry that takes around 3 hours. The station is 3.5kms from the property. You would need a taxi to take you from the station to the house. It's possible, but I would recommend having your own vehicle. Other Things to NoteThere is wifi here- you are absolutely welcome to use it. ---- IMPORTANT NOTES OF COMMON SENSE WHEN CONSIDERING IF HOLIDAYING IN THE COUNTRY IS RIGHT FOR YOU It's not a big deal, but you would be surprised by how many people are surprised to encounter nature when they come to the country to spend some time in nature ;) We have animals- dogs, pigs, chickens and horses- and live next to 3 farms. The house and garden will be animal free for your stay- but if you are concerned then this may not be the property for you. Also- whilst the house is set up for kids- it is a country property with climbing trees, a yard that leads onto paddocks with cows, an unfenced 2m deep dam, horses and electric fences. There is a treehouse that is quite high and a very shallow pond in the garden. These are all potential hazards for unsupervised children. Their safety in the big wide world is your sole responsibility. A visit to the country will include encounters of the insect kind, especially in the warmer months. There are more spiders, mosquitoes, lizards, birds and flies in Berry than there are in the CBD. It's not snakey here- but exercise caution if walking in long grass or accessing wood piles. The house is fitted with insect screens, fans and we provide insect repellant and fly spray etc.

Villavie, literally - country house life, is luxury accommodation for two that is located next to natural temperate rainforest. It is host to a huge variety of native birds and more than likely, you'll see echidnas, wallabies and countless butterflies. Villavie has the accoutrements of a hotel suite while being set in pristine countryside. It is a place where you can relax and chill out, or just let go of the stresses from a hectic week working and living in the city. It is the lower story of a house, similar to a duplex, with its own private driveway and entrance allowing for total privacy. Just beyond the back door is the view through the citrus orchard to the duck pond. You can take a walk over Moeyan Hill and through the national park that adjoins the property. Drive or bike to Seven Mile Beach and enjoy a beach with virtually no people sharing it with you. Or drive into Berry – it's only five minutes away – and eat at one of the fine restaurants. The suite has an extremely comfortable European queen size bed, TV, CD player, DVD player, as well as a barbecue, microwave oven, laundry and a two gas burner stove. For breakfast we supply you with freshly laid eggs from the farm down the road, our own home made granola and preserves and a fresh sourdough baguette from the local Sourdough Bakery. The pantry is also well stocked with the usual condiments. Minimum booking is two nights. With its historic buildings and leafy surrounds, Berry is a delightful village to visit year-round. In the past few years Berry has become a favourite refuge for Sydney-siders seeking fresher air and a less hectic lifestyle who don't want to forgo some of the attractions of city living. A veritable popular NSW getaway. The town has several outstanding restaurants, cafes and gourmet outlets. There is an eclectic mix of art galleries, craft stores and fashion boutiques to suit the most discerning shopper. Seven Mile Beach is only a short drive away from the town and there are many other smaller villages nearby to explore. There are local wineries, golf courses and other attractions to discover in the area. Villavie - luxurious accommodation, in pristine countryside, surrounded by Australian native life. It is only 4km from the town of Berry and just over 7km to Seven Mile Beach.
