    The SpaceA true kiwi classic crib Absolute water front ( fish from the front door). Virtually unchanged in decades this crib is a true kiwi classic with an old time charm that is getting harder to find. The prefect retreat for individuals looking to get away or family groups looking for a slice of kiwiana heaven. The amenities are pretty basic so it's not for the Paris Hiltons of this world. There are no phones, TV, no microwave, no internet, no Sky either, or stereo . No cell coverage either really. Most importantly NO toilet! Yes the long drop was decommissioned a wee while back as it was gross and the flush loos at the tennis court are a 2min walk away and until we invest in a new abolition block are sufficient. And night time twinkles under moon light in the long grass has a charm of its own. Wont suit everybody though of course, but you know what to expect. There is power though. A hot shower even! A small stove/oven for cooking and a couple of classic fridges to keep the beer (and food) cold and an old AM radio that may or may not work. There may be a the odd mouse to contend with too. All that said there is nowhere else on earth quite like it. Light a wee fire under the old bath on the river bank for a hot soaking under the moonlight. There is a tennis court too. You'll find a couple of rackets in the bunk house. The domain is great for playing sports and has a great playground for the kids too. The Crib has a dinghy too; and a mullet net so you can catch a feed at high tide in the river. Or just fish with a rod from the front door step. There is white bait and trout in there too for the keen angler or surf cast off the beach. The beach is awesome. You can walk forever and often not meet a soul. Plenty old school board games to occupy the whole family around the fire in the evenings. Trust me, you will never run out of things to do here! Special conditions: Make sure you bring: - your own bedding/linen - matches paper kindling and coal for the wee fire. - loo paper - fishing rod - clothing for any weather - your dog - a sense of adventure nb: View listing calendar on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) for availability. The SpaceWe have dedicated the entire top floor of our home as guest accommodation with two bedrooms, guest lounge and bathroom. Main bedroom can be configured as a super king or with two single beds while a second smaller bedroom with a queen bed is available for parties of more than two. Smaller bedroom is not let separately so your party will always have exclusive use of entire floor. Guest lounge has fridge and tea making facilities with wide selection of teas and coffees, fresh home baking, books, magazines and games. Your party will have exclusive use of bathroom with vanity, shower and toilet. Range of toiletries available. Beach towels and picnic requisites available if you are having a day at the lake. Guest AccessExclusive use of top floor. Guests are welcome to join us in our lounge. Very limited use of kitchen may be available. You are welcome to use our fabulous (if somewhat dated) conservatory which is a lovely spot to sit with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down over the lake. It is our cat Jack's favourite place so you may have company. Breakfast can be served in the upstairs lounge, the conservatory or in summer on the sunny deck at the back of the house. Interaction with GuestsWe have our own memories of travel when sometimes you felt very social and others when you really needed your own space. We are happy to be guided by you on this and while we would love to hear about your travels and welcome you to join us in our living areas, we are equally happy if you would prefer solitude. The NeighborhoodA local community group has developed the lake to create wonderful picnic and swimming areas around the lake. It is also used for boating, sailing and waterskiing. People travel from Dunedin for fish and chips from our local store - there is nothing better than sitting by the lake enjoying these delicacies. Alternatively the Waihola Bar & Café offers fabulous meals in the restaurant or bar snacks, while during the day The Black Swan provides a wonderful cafe selection. Two convenience stores and a petrol station take care of any other needs you may have. The Sinclair Wetlands are a must while here. A 315 hectare portion of the Lake Waihola-Waipori wetland complex, where you are welcome to walk or kayak to connect to the wetland environment, via education and hands-on participation. Getting AroundWaihola is 12 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from Dunedin. The main bus companies stop at Waihola but it is an area better explored by car. A 12km trip across the top of the hill takes you to Taieri Mouth while heading south 15 minutes takes you to the turn off to Central Otago and another 15 minutes onto the Southern Scenic Route through to the Catlins. Other Things to NoteOur fabulous views are the result of living on the hill above the lake. The downside of this is that the section is steep (however you can park at the top) and there are stairs to reach the guest accommodation.

          This great getaway destination is ideal if you want to drink your morning coffee while watching the sun rise above the ocean, read a book in front of the cosy fire, share a drink or two in your own snug little bar, or stroll along the beach and collect shells - maybe even spot a seal or two! We do warn you that this escape does not have TV, wifi, or even cell phone coverage or land line, but if this sounds like heaven to you then your search stops here. A converted cottage which covers the basics but wouldnt dare to be labelled ''luxe'', it is perfect for families, groups of friends looking for a unique catch up destination and couples wanting a slow paced escape. Situated in the small sleepy village of Toko Mouth, the location is far enough away from towns to be called a relaxing escape, but close enough to the drawcards of the lower South Island to offer some fantastic day trips. Take a coastal drive to the Catlins or Kaka Point, head to Dunedin for some more city flavours or just down the road to the Wangaloa golf course. Special conditions: - Pets could be allowed with prior approval - Outside smoking only Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;
