There's a lovely little deck right next to the stream and in winter this is divinely beautiful! On the deck you'll find a bathroom with shower open at the top so you can experience the forest while showering! You'll also find art supplies so that you can express your experience through painting. Art classes available by appointment with Sofanya as well. Hike down to your car to drive to many many hiking areas, boating, restaurants, shopping, galleries..... We also hold occasional wknd art workshops and Sofanya offers private art classes as well. Call or see her to arrange a private creativity session! Internet and phone is available in Sofanya's Gallery about a 5 min walk from the cabin. The property is located halfway between Carmel & Big Sur, California ....near Monterey as well. There are always wonderful events and so much to do in the area....and of course coming back resting in this peaceful environment. The NeighborhoodPlease pull over to the side on our road if anyone is following closely behind you. Some of the locals get impatient and it's best to let them pass you. It is a windy magical forest road....take your time and enjoy! It's best not to walk around in the neighborhood outside the property. You are welcome to walk up our own road called "Hoffman's Hill" and take the redwood path to the stream, on property. Also by driving all the way to the end of our road to "Botcher's Gap" you'll find nat'l forest hiking! Other Things to NoteMaking a Fire in the Wood Stove There should be enough wood in the house to start and maintain a nice fire for one or two days. If you need more wood you can find it outside in the driveway next to the brown shed with a sign on it saying “Wood Shed”. Bunch up a few pieces of newspaper….6-8 pieces Place the paper on bottom of wood stove Put small pieces of wood and/or a wood starter if provided, over the bunched paper in a teepee or tent like fashion Place a few more pieces of paper over that Layer a few slightly larger pieces of wood over the paper and wood below it going in opposite directions Light a corner of the paper and allow it to start to flame up. You will find the long stem lighter nearby. Please do not leave the lighter on or near the wood stove. Once the flame is going well you may add another one or two pieces of slightly larger wood. Allow the fire to get hotter as you add more wood and keep the vent in the wood stove door slightly open. When you are ready to go to bed be sure that the vents in the door to the wood stove are almost closed as this will keep the house warm for a longer time and in the morning you can add more wood to it to continue warming the house in the daytime. Be sure to close the vents and wood stove door completely when leaving the house. Please do not leave anything on top of or even close to the wood stove…it gets very hot and can burn or melt anything on top of it which can be dangerous. If you see smoke coming out of the door or anywhere into the house or any other issues or questions don’t hesitate to either call me or knock on my door inside the Art Gallery the garden level in front of the Dome House. You’ll find a fire extinguisher near the wood stove if you should need it. Never ever put anything on top or near the wood stove. It gets extremely hot and this can be a hazard. Be aware and use extreme care. DO NOT take any logs out of the wood stove to put back into the box of wood. If it has any fire in it at all it will ignite the other wood around it and could cause a huge fire....NOT GOOD! We are always concerned about safety and fires are a major issue in our forest. Please be mindful of this and keep the door to the wood stove closed while burning wood. Do not leave a raging fire in there when you leave the house. It is okay to leave a moderate fire with the door closed and the vents closed on the door. In case of emergence call 9-1-1
