        In the Scottish Borders but less than 2 miles from the pretty market town of Biggar, The New Farmhouse is a generous, very well equipped self catering lodge with wood burning stove. It has its own private grounds with lockable bike shed, swings and plenty of parking. Ideal for families, mountain bikers, fishermen and anyone wishing a beautiful base from which to explore the Borders, South Lanarkshire or Edinburgh and Glasgow. Great for relaxing too with lovely views all round. Nestling in the north west corner of The Scottish Borders, The New Farmhouse is less than 3km from the pretty market town of Biggar which is bisected by the A72 on the line of a Roman Road which linked Clyde Valley to their Fort in Musselburgh. It is home to many small locally run shops including butchers, bakers, gift shops, cafes and restaurants. It boasts 5 museums and a wonderful puppet theatre as well as boating pond and golf course. For those seeking arts, crafts, theatre, music and cinema, check out what's on at Biggar Corn Exchange. Nearby is the World Heritage Site at New Lanark where you can discover the fascinating history of this impressive cotton mill village and the life and times of mill manager and social pioneer Robert Owen in the award-winning Visitor Centre.           The SpaceThe picturesque former market town of Biggar makes the perfect base for a huge range of attractions and activities in the south of Scotland. Ferniehaugh cottage was fully renovated in 2014 and behind the tiny frontage is an amazingly spacious, comfortable interior featuring beamed ceilings, woodburning stove, solid oak kitchen with conservatory off and a tranquil, beamed bedroom with kingsize bed and luxury linen upstairs. There is also a small outdoor seating area that catches the sun for most of the day. Facilities include full central heating, woodburning stove, washing machine, dishwasher, Smeg hob and oven, microwave, toaster and kettle, 32” Sony TV, Blu Ray player and Roku streaming stick with free Netflix, Amazon Prime, BBC iPlayer and Spotify. There is a traditional overhead airer (or 'pulley') in the kitchen. Basic supplies that are a nuisance to buy for holidays are provided (eg dishwasher and washing tablets, kitchen and toilet rolls, various teas, coffee, sugar, oil, salt, flour etc). An extra single bed can be provided in the sitting room for stays of 7 nights or more (otherwise, the sitting room is free beds). Taller guests should be aware of the sloping ceiling in the bathroom and guests with impaired mobility should note that there are fairly steep stairs to the upper floor. A car is not essential as there are regular bus services from Edinburgh and Lanark and Biggar not only has its own entertainments but everything you could possibly need. But there is so much to see and do around Biggar that it is certainly advisable if you would like to explore the wider area. Parking in Biggar is free and plentiful. Biggar’ central location makes a great base for exploring the surrounding local towns, countryside and visitor attractions such as Tinto Hill, the Falls of Clyde, New Lanark, Dawyck Gardens, Peebles and Little Sparta - see Guide Book for details. Biggar itself has a wealth of independent shops (including a fabulous bookshop), several traditional pubs and a range of restaurants - and its very own museum, opened in 2015, with permanent and regular guest exhibitions. Local pubs regularly host live music, often traditional, and special events include the Biggar Little Festival in October and the Biggar Bonfire on Hogmanay. The cottage is also very convenient for the Edinburgh Festival - and considerably cheaper than accommodation in the city while it's on! One of the local pubs regularly hosts live music, often traditional. There is a Festival in Biggar every October and a beautiful new museum with permanent and regular guest exhibitions. Its central location makes a great base for exploring the surrounding local towns, countryside and visitor attractions and is easily accessible from Edinburgh and the M74 motorway.
