Kolakham is situated in the buffer area of Neora Valley National Park (NVNP) and over looking Mt. KhangChenDzonga. NVNP is around 88 Sq. Kms is one of the last remaining pristine ecosystems of the Eastern Himalayas with its amazing Bio-diversity, and is home to many rare and endangered plants, animals and birds. It exhibits a rich variety of habitat as the area comprises the catchment and watershed of the Neora River with its tributaries.
NVNP is a unique ecosystem where tropical, sub-tropical, sub-temperate, and temperate forests together created the ideal sanctuary for some of the rarest animal and bird species of the world. Since the park altitude varies a great extent from south to north, it helps to sustain the forest like rhododendron, bamboo, oak, ferns, sal, etc. The park is also famous for numerous species of orchids.
A number of animals like Red Panda, Himalayan Thar, Tiger, Goral, Himalayan Black Bear, Wild Boar, Wild Dog and Clouded Leopard and birds like Redstart, Whistling Thrush, Golden Headed Black Finch, Niltava, Yuhina are found in this National Park.
Its in the Eastern Himalaya in West Bengal, North East India. Lava is the nearest town 8 kms and Kalimpong is the nearest city 40 Kms
