The SpaceStone House has 3 bedrooms and amenities downstairs and the upper floor is all living and kitchen space, opening onto the large deck. The house is very comfortable and is fully equipped. Guests have the house to themselves and also have the use of kayaks, mountain bikes, boogie boards, snorkelling and fishing gear. On arrival guests use a personalised code to access a small locker containing the house keys. We live some distance from the house so you will probably not see much of us. We will set up the house for our guests and will then be available by phone to help out with any queries or problems. The house is right on the bay and a short walk to the nearest boat ramp and beach. A little further on are a number of excellent beaches, both within the bay and on the ocean. The township of St Helens is 7 km away and has all the services you could need. It is a very pleasant 45 minute walk into town, much of it on a waterfront walking path. There are a number of cafes, galleries and interesting boutique/gift shops to make the walk worthwhile. You will need a car as public transport is limited in this quiet town. There is a small airport, serviced only by charter flights, a short distance from the house. Car hire is available in St Helens and there are bus services between the East Coast and Launceston but most visitors from outside Tasmania would hire a car on arrival at the Launceston airport and drive the 2 hours to Stone House. North of St Helens on the coast is Binalong Bay and The Gardens and the beautiful coast line of the Bay of Fires. On the Tasman Highway north of town are a number of attractions worth seeing. The Pyengana Cheese factory, the Pub in the Paddock and the St Columba Falls are all worth a look and all less than an hour from the house. The NeighborhoodSt Helens (pop ~1200) is approximately 2 hours drive from Launceston (166 km via Scottsdale) and approximately 3 hours from Hobart It is the largest town on the east coast of Tasmania, and like most other east coast towns, is centred around the fishing industry. A deep-sea scale fishing fleet out of St. Helens, and Georges Bay (on which St. Helens was founded) has built a reputation for the quality of its crayfish and oysters and scallops. Game fishing is popular with Tuna, Marlin and Mako Sharks the most sought after catches. The town prides itself in its warmth and sunniness - the result of a microclimate produced by surrounding hills and warm ocean currents. Consequently St Helens is warmer than Melbourne in winter and enjoys an average of 22°C in February. Fishing from the beaches, sheltered bays and coral fringed reefs attract fisherman from far and wide who boast that St Helens is unsurpassed for its diverse range of fish stocks. Diving is another popular past-time, with crayfish and abalone the prized catches. Good beaches are located near to St. Helens, and there are several surf beaches along the coast. It is possible to charter boats for marlin and tuna fishing. South of St. Helens, Skyline Road provides a good coastal lookout. Swimming and surfing - The beaches around Georges Bay are ideal from swimming and surfing. The beaches on the southern side stretch from St Helens to St Helens Point. In entire bay has 50 km of shoreline. Such is the popularity of the area that it is estimated the population increases tenfold in summer. East of the town on the southern short of Georges Bay is the St. Helens State Reserve, where short walks are rewarded by spectacular coastal scenery. The Bay of Fires Coastal Reserve to the north of the town has similar natural beauty. North of St. Helens, Mount William National Park has an abundance of native flora and fauna. Getting AroundLocal buses pass the front of the units. Other Things to NoteFully self-contained units in the best spot in St Helens.

The SpaceWelcome to the far-away north east of Tasmania renowned for its white powder-soft sand and orange lichen-covered granite rocks. St Helens is a quaint fishing village set on the beautiful Georges Bay with the Bay of Fires beaches stretching to the north and St Helens Point, home of the giant Peron Dunes and Beer Barrel Beach flanking the bay to the south. Our beach retreat is perched on the gum-covered ridge above the bay with stunning water views and dramatic skyscapes and sunsets. The land stretches down to the bayside beach with no other houses to impede your view or sense of escape. Birdlife is abundant in the native garden and the pelicans oblige with regular fly pasts. Kookaburras are likely to greet you on arrival and blue wrens abound. The house is furnished with an eclectic blend of furniture collected over 40 years of living in Tasmania. Paintings and woodcuts from the owners' private collection along with Pacific Island and African basketwear rub shoulders with retro furnishings which have been jealously guarded by the beach house since it was built in the 1950's. Polished boards, louvred windows and expansive decks at the front and rear of the house add to the beach house feel. The only shells you'll find are real ones from nearby beaches - no 'seaside kitsch' from the local bric-a-brac shop! The spacious sunroom doubles as a dining area with seating for 6 around the locally-made macrocarpa table. The daybed in the corner is the perfect reading and napping spot. A desk, bookcase, and BOSE sound system, eclectic cd collection and drawer full of games and puzzles complete the holiday mood. The living room is open-plan with the kitchen and has comfortable leather sofas in front of the open log fire. Sliding doors lead onto the deck facing the bay view. The well equipped kitchen includes an oven, microwave and fridge and has a colourful array of serving bowls, quality glassware, crockery and cutlery. Perch on the counter stools for breakfast or curl up in the leather sofas and watch a movie - the owners run a film festival so the DVD rack is buckling under the weight of titles. The bathroom has a shower, basin, flush toilet and heated towel rail and there is a separate laundry with washing machine. Both the front and rear decks have tables, chairs, deck chairs, sun umbrellas and a gas BBQ. A hammock, garden seats, African style "braai" pit and established lawns extend the outdoor living options. The home comfortably sleeps 5 in two bedrooms with all linen provided. The carpeted queen bedroom looks out through the sunroom to the bay views and has a corner wardrobe and dressing table. The second bedroom has both a double and single bed and built-in wardrobe. Both bedrooms have quality linen, electric heaters, blinds, curtains and bedside lamps bright enough to read by. Thank you François Péron! If you're looking for a sheltered spot to set up for a day on the sand, head beyond the turn off to the beaches on St Helens Point Road and find the peaceful Burns Bay.
