The SpaceThe cabin is perfect for 2-4 people. 1 loft bedroom with one queen bed and additional full size futon bed in the loft sitting area. The loft bedroom and loft sitting/sleeping area is an open space divided by a built in closet. Since the cabin has a loft and has a very open floor plan don't expect complete privacy. Of course, on the main level the bathroom & shower are private. Being that it is a open floor plan, in the winter the furnace blower can be heard throughout the cabin. For light sleepers, foam ear plugs work well. ** New.. Nothings better than a good nights sleep, so we just added 3" memory foam toppers to the beds. WINTER GUESTS: See info in "guest access" section below regarding snow plowing. *****All guests are required to read and abide by "House rules" and all information pertaining to the blue cabin and land listed on this AIRBNB site. Guest AccessKeys for the cabin will be given to the guest who made the AIRBNB reservation. Please check your AIRBNB profile, the picture should be a fair likeness of you. The key guest may be asked to furnish names of other guests in their group. (just like a hotel does for emergency purposes). **Check In Time: We try to be flexible an accommodate our guests' travel plans. Evening arrivals (after 7:00pm) requires pre-planning, as we live 2+ hrs away. Please keep us informed of your travel itinerary, texting works great. Be mindful of weather conditions. You have access to the full 40 acres including forest and trout stream. (note: you must have a Wisconsin fishing license with a trout stamp to fish). We will meet you to give you keys and a short orientation to the house & property. We do have small trail signs up in the woods to help get you back to the cabin. Firewood is provided for the fire pit. Feel free to use the gas grill There are 2 chairs up in the upper and lower meadows, a great place to read during the day or towards evening watch the birds, monarchs, dragon flies and bats. Sometimes the fire flies slowly move up into the meadow, its magical. You may encounter other guests when you are out hiking, please respect our other guests privacy and space, unless your invited. The forest is always changing so some trails may be hard to find, overgrown or blocked by downed trees. STREAM AWARENESS: Depending on the season, the stream can run fast and should be crossed with caution. Use common sense. The stream flows year round and there are a couple of deeper spots (2ft-4ft) but the majority of the stream bed is 4"-8"deep. If snow covered /iced over, proceed with caution. In the Spring, 41 creek is considered a Flash flood stream. Use caution! WINTER GUESTS: If you live in the North we assume you understand that snow storms can affect your travel plans. If there is weather coming in, plan accordingly. The driveway is level /gravel/snow in winter. We sand and salt when necessary. Be cautious when exiting the driveway because of limited visibility. PLOWING: Snow plowing for our driveway (200ft ) is contracted through the township of Edgewater. They have procedures and rules for plowing roads and driveways. All Roads 1st for public safety, Driveways 2nd. Timing can vary greatly as to when they would get to our driveway. Historically, after a big NorEaster, they have been relatively quick to plow usually within 4-8 hrs. But that is not a guaranteed time frame. They sometimes will plow in the middle of the night,so if you wake up and see flashing yellow lights at 3:00am, just know that its not a "UFO"!. We have snow shovels but, the driveway is 200ft long. Please don't move your car closer to Woodale Rd. you could block the plow from plowing the driveway. Might as well, relax and have a hot chocolate. They plow after 4" of snowfall. Interaction with GuestsCheck In's: Depending on timing and when you plan your stay, we would be glad to take you on a short orientation tour of the land. If you prefer, discovery & adventure on your own, then there are basic trail maps available in the cabin. A set of walkie/talkies are available for anyone who wants to "go solo" into the forest. ****Summer/fall is Project time!- There is no shortage of work to do with 40 acres of forest. We are constantly working on maintenance & improvements to the Land/Cabin/Buildings/Trails etc. We try to do most of the work during the week, but sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate with our plan. You might see or hear us… but then again, you might not. We respect your privacy. The NeighborhoodBirchwood is about 6 miles away. Restaurants- Paul's Pizza Den makes a good pizza. Be sure to stop at Ed's Pit stop for their BBQ pulled pork or brisket sandwich! Its worth the stop! Hayward is about 15+ miles due north. Its easy to get to and offers some good restaurants, bars and of course the Fishing Hall of Fame is a fun stop. Hayward, Spooner or Stone Lake are nice little towns for a short trip. Hayward is known for hosting the annual "Birkie" Birkebeiner cross country ski race Feb 18-20,2016 and the Kortelopet race Feb 20,2016. During the "Birkie" Hayward comes alive and is quite festive and fun so make your reservations early. Your neighbors may be furry and can have sharp teeth. ;-) Getting AroundYou will need a car or be a really good bicycler. Access to the Tuscobia snowmobile and ATV trail system is close & easy. The trail system is extensive and you can travel between cities . Most towns allow you to ride your ATV in town (some restrictions apply). Sorry, no ATV's allowed in our woods.
