The SpaceThe Log Cabin is one of three unique, historic vacation homes on our 13 acre property, and it is truly "pioneer living" in style! Sometime around 1890, a very talented Finnish builder crafted several traditional log buildings on Minnesota's Iron Range. We are fortunate to have one of these well-preserved structures at the Green Gate property, and have masterfully updated it into a unique, historic home. We believe big things can come in small packages. The Log Cabin is a comfortable and very well-equipped home in a small footprint. This hand-hewn log cabin has been beautifully updated into a modern, cozy space, perfect for couples. The 15′ x 15′ floorplan includes a kitchen, dining table, sofa and wood stove, plus a full bathroom neatly tucked below the loft staircase. Thanks to the Norwegian owner (who also happens to be an engineer), this Finnish log cabin is equipped with modern mechanicals including air conditioning, in-floor heat, and a high-efficiency tankless water heater for endless hot water. To complete your log cabin experience, there is also a gorgeous glass-fronted wood stove and always a full supply of firewood available During your stay. The well-appointed kitchen on the main floor includes a 2-burner gas cooktop, farm sink, concrete countertops, an undercounter refrigerator/freezer, coffemaker, teapot, and cookware/serving ware for 2-3 guests. A microwave and countertop convection oven are also provided in the nearby closet should you need them. The upper floor provides a peaceful rest space with a full-sized platform bed, reclaimed oak flooring, vaulted ceiling, air conditioning, DVD player, and great views of the surrounding forests. Outside, the wrap-around porch covers the south and west sides and extends to the adjacent hewn log “privy" and outdoor summer shower area nearby. Guest AccessThis cabin is offered as a complete unit, suitable for up to 3 guests total. The cabin is easily accessible by car (we are just 2 blocks off the paved Giants Ridge Road near Biwabik MN. Ample parking exists near the cabin. Interaction with GuestsI am often staying in one of the homes on my 13 acre property, while working on various projects, care taking, or just enjoying this little piece of heaven. Whether I am present or away, I'm almost always reachable via phone to answer any questions guests may have. The NeighborhoodOur location is quite perfect, honestly- the property is located halfway between the city of Biwabik and the Giants Ridge Recreation Area...next to everything, yet away from it all. We currently have 3 unique vacation rentals on the 13 acre property, but each remains very private and life is quite laid back and quiet on our historic farmstead. The Mesabi Trail (paved trail for biking and hiking) is accessible just a block from our property and can be used to get to swimming beaches, Giants Ridge or Biwabik. Our property is also bordered by the Embarrass River and a chain of lakes that can be fantastic for paddling, tubing, lounging or fishing in the summer months. Restaurants, bars, gas and grocery are available in Biwabik (1.5 miles) and Giants Ridge (3 miles) has meals and entertainment as well. We are happy to recommend a variety of tours and attractions in the surrounding area as well. Getting AroundOur property is easily accessed by car, bicycle (via Mesabi Trail), canoe (via Embarrass River) and even on nordic skis if you coming to/from Giants Ridge in the winter!
