The SpaceThis is a remarkable historic mountain villa property. The 45 acres of bushland surrounded by National Park have a frontage onto the escarpment of the Grose Valley, overlooking Blue Gum Forest. The lights of Sydney can been seen from the verandah, as can Sydney Harbour fireworks on a clear night. The house is surrounded by several acres of rambling terraced gardens with giant pine trees. The independent tree house on the property can also be rented at half price. The house itself has been on the cover of Vogue Living and recently appeared in a fashion shoot for rush. It is also rambling, with a spectacular N.E facing living/dining room and a winter room with a large open fire place. This room was the origin of the house and was built from bushrock early last century as a base for the bushwalkers who explored the Grose Valley. On the north end there are two beautiful adjoining bedrooms with steel-framed French windows, a bathroom with bath and a separate toilet. Furniture is comfortable and cosy. The renovated well-appointed kitchen has tank water, a fuel stove as well as a new gas stove, dishwasher and large refrigerator. There is a reasonable old piano and interesting books, wi fi and television. The house is a few minutes walk from major lookouts and bushwalks and beside Hat Hill from which there are 360 degree wilderness views and walks. The house is secluded and completely private but only an 8 minute drive to Blackheath train station. It is perfect for family reunions, work on creative projects, small retreats and any kind of time to be spent being uplifted on a mountaintop surrounded by nature at her most dramatic. The house is heated by electric heaters, a fuel stove and an open fire. Do get in contact if you are interested as we are quite flexible, and will put the price down for longer stays.

The cottage has an open plan lounge/dining area, a full kitchen (including dishwasher, mircowave), inside toilet & shower, and is completely self-contained. The cottage has a TV & DVD. * What to Do * This is a great location to base the best Blue Mountains bushwalks from - explore the awesome Grose valley and Blue Gum forest, mountain bike from the front door or walk to many of the spectacular lookouts. Blackheath is also a popular rock climbing destination. The Grose Valley and Centennial Glen are great starting points but there are many other climbing areas locally. There are over 100kms of mountain biking trails and bushwalks starting at the front door. There are four golf courses with 20 a minute drive, including Blackheath, Katoomba and Leura. Children are most welcome, but we cannot allow any pets, as wallabies & 'roos with their joeys are frequent visitors to the property. Please note that the cottage has stairs, so small children will need to be supervised. Please note that there is a two night booking requirement for weekends. One night stays are usually fine for the rest of the week. Guest AccessYou have exclusive use of the whole cottage. You'll park right outside the door. Interaction with GuestsAfter you've let yourself in, we usually wander up and welcome you with a quick 5 minute chat, and then leave you to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. You are of course very welcome to get in touch with us throughout your stay, but we won't disturb you. The NeighborhoodBlackheath is still a quiet village - it doesn't have the weekend crowds of some of the other more touristy villages. The village has loads of character and charm - your visit will feel relaxed. The cottage is located on the edge of Blackheath - five minutes from the station. There are a dozen great cafes and excellent restaurants, and two pubs that serve meals. Blackheath is renowned for its galleries, craft studios and artisans, including a glass blowers studio, a jewelry gallery, an antiques emporium to browse, and many local artists who display their work around the village. Not forgetting the markets days on the 1st & 2nd Sunday of the month - get there early! And further afield it is only a ten minute drive (or a short train or bus ride) to the more touristy towns of Katoomba and Leura. There you’ll find larger supermarkets, interesting Cultural Centre and Art Gallery, the Scenic Railway and Three Sisters. Leura is famous for its gardens, galleries, boutiques and cafes. Also locally is horse riding, abseiling and canyoning. In the other direction are the spectacular Jenolan Caves and Mt Tomah Gardens. The mountains has a huge variety of attractions – something for everyone. Getting AroundTrain station is a 5 minute drive away with taxis ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) available in the village. And the bushwalks start right on the doorstep. Other Things to NoteLet us know if you want us to provide linen/towels at a cost of $25 per bed. You're very welcome to bring your own, or even bring sleeping bags for the kids. We provide doonas, pillows & electric blankets, so you only need to bring a fitted sheet, a flat sheet & pillow slips, along with a bath towel. We also have a portacot for the little ones. Please note that the cottage has stairs, so small children will need to be supervised. We suggest you bring slippers as we prefer you to leave your shoes at the door.
