The SpaceWith floor to ceiling windows looking out in to the woods from the living room, there's a sense of being right in the middle of nature from morning to sunset. The house, decorated with contemporary art and family antiques, is a great place for couples, friends and families to connect by the fire, over meals and on walks. It's also an ideally quiet and secluded home to work on a project. We're at the end of a private road on a creek. I find that just wandering around near the house is a pleasure. You'll likely to feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city---but without having schlepped very far at all. The house rules are pretty simple: no smoking, no pets and no parties. The house has three bedrooms---two have a queen size bed, and one has a trundle bed with two twins. In addition we have a new queen size air mattress, one pack n play and one mini crib. There are two large living rooms---one upstairs and one downstairs, with a lounge area and work desk. There's plenty to explore within miles of the house. Blooming Grove is yet to be discovered--it's unpretentious and full of little gems. Many people come to the area because they're attending weddings in the area---if that's you, we're only minutes from Blooming Hill Farm, Brotherhood Winery and Round Hill. You're also only a handful of miles from incredible excursions including the world renown Storm King Arts Center, a beautiful Saturday afternoon brunch and farmer's market at Blooming Hill Farm, premiere outlet shopping at Woodbury Commons, the Body Art Yoga Barn, hiking at Harriman State Park, cycling and more. Nearby destinations include Bear Mountain, the quirky arts village Sugar Loaf, and the town of Beacon, known for its DIA art museum. There is WIFI but there is no TV. There are chairs by the creek for creek watching. Deer, birds and squirrels roam. Several hundred books live here across many genres including fiction, nonfiction, poetry and essays. There's also a basket of old New Yorkers and other magazines. A child-friendly house (although not child proofed), we have a large collection of children's books and toys, a pack n play, a mini crib, a high chair, a baby bath and a changing pad. For guests I am available any time to answer questions by phone or email. Guests coming from the city can opt to drive, or to take the Metro North to Beacon, where Enterprise Cars can meet you with a rental. I've lived in the city for more than twenty years but have always had to leave to prevent burnout and recharge. It’s been outside of the city where I’ve been able to do my most focused and creative work, and outside of city where I’ve been able to have extended stretches of quality time with friends and loved ones. I put this house together for guests with all that in mind and enjoy sharing it! Interaction with GuestsFor guests I leave the house open with keys on the kitchen table and am available by phone any time to answer questions. We own the house next door, so someone in my family is nearby if you find you need one of us. Other Things to NoteCheck in is at 3pm. Check out is at 11am.

While only the northeastern quadrant and summit are part of the recently created Schunemunk State Park, some popular hiking trails and access routes have long crossed the privately owned lands elsewhere on the mountain. Guest AccessGuests will have access to living areas, kitchen cable TV and wifi. Interaction with GuestsNo pets, please - our cats are given the run of the place and they are easily frightened and I will be available full time. The NeighborhoodHardscrabble Road is a narrow country lane one mile long with about a dozen houses on it, zoned two-acre residential. Getting AroundIt's best to have a car here. We do have a bike rental place - Joe Fixit's in Monroe and Goshen. We do get bus service from NYC via the Port Authority in Manhattan - the bus company is Short Line, to Monroe, NY - about a one hour trip. There are taxis in Monroe, or we can negotiate a pick-up service. New Jersey Transit trains also serve Harriman and Salisbury Mills out of Hoboken terminal. Other Things to Notequite territorial. Air conditioning is central governed by thermostat in the living room. Master suite has a ceiling fan. In winter, the forced air heating system does a good job everywhere. Dining and kitchen tables can be expanded with leaves stored beneath the stairs. Gas Grill is on the deck, BBQ tools are in a hidden drawer UNDER pots & pans cabinet in kitchen.

Most of my friends find a walk on Hardscrabble Road a rewarding pastime. There are binoculars for the bird watchers. Getting AroundIt's best to have your own car here, but if you don't I've picked up guests at the bus terminal in Monroe (Short Line from the Port Authority in NYC), and the train stations in Harriman (New Jersey Transit Port Jervis line from Hoboken) and Beacon, NY ( Other Things to NoteCaring for the cats is a priority for me, so I would appreciate your help in feeding them - Canned food is on a low shelf in the Kitchen pantry. I usually fill the Kibble feeder with enough to last. They share a can in the morning in the kitchen (Sunny always goes first. Be sure they have water. They're used to going where they please, but it's not a problem if you want to lock the cat door keep them out of the living area. They can live on the porch quite comfortably with the porch thermostat set at 62 degrees.
