The SpaceYou won't regret a stay in this cozy gem of a cottage on prestigious Stoney. Once a three-bedroom cottage, it has been completely renovated as an open studio-type space with skylights and pine floors and a spectacular view. There are full-size windows on every wall. Kitchen features a lovely island with ceramic top and bar sink. Amble down through the grass and wild herbs and flowers to the lakeshore. A dock is available if you have a boat or would just like to sunbathe. A canoe with two paddles and two lifejackets will be there for your use as well. There are two beds, one brand-new excellent quality queen bed, and a second futon sofa bed (double) with a memory foam on top. This one converts easily into a sofa. Please note: In the high summer season, we rent only for full weeks at a time (six-night minimum). Before booking guests, I need to check with my cleaners to make sure they can get there to prepare for you. Guest AccessOnce you have confirmed a booking, we will tell you exactly how to get there and where to find keys so you can let yourself in. Arrive any time of day or night (after the allowed check-in time.) Walk right in and make yourselves at home. Interaction with GuestsMuch of the charm of this cottage is its remoteness. We (the owners) may be at a nearby cottage on an island, or back in the city. So you will be pretty much on your own, although you can be reassured that someone will be able to answer your texts or calls should you have any issues. And, I can always send someone over if required for a larger issue, whether I can be there personally, or not. The NeighborhoodMinutes away is Big Cedar General Store where you can find all kinds of basic grocery and gift goodies, plus beer and wine and a limited selection of liquor. A few miles further along Highway #28 you will see another great store -- Woodview General Store -- with groceries, local meats and cheese, more gifts and goodies, and a post office. Nearby are several Marinas where you can rent boats or fishing equipment (Kawartha Park Marina, Carveth's Marina). The fancy Viamede Resort is a place where you can rent jet skis or do some fine dining (Mt. Julian restaurant is particularly fine.) The closest town is Lakefield, a 20 minutes drive where you will find all kinds of cute boutique stores plus the essentials: Open 24 hrs a day Foodland, excellent bulk store The Lakefield Pantry, high-end fancy food store The Market, several pharmacies, gas, car wash, community halls, LCBO and The Beer Store, etc. Getting AroundYou are going to need a car to get to this beautiful little spot! And, if you have a boat, there's a dock to park it at. You just need to make arrangements to have it launched at a nearby private launching site (cost $10). If you are boating, however, best to get to know the rocks on the lake. It's quite shallow and you don't want to wreck your motor hitting hard granite. Other Things to NoteBecause of the remote setting of this cottage, and the distance away of any laundry facilities, you will need to bring your own sheets and towels. You also need to take all your garbage and recycling home with you. Bedding and blankets and pillows are there for your use. Toilet paper and soap is also there. There is a compost box just behind the cottage for all of your biodegradable food garbage.
