Our sunset from this vantage point, 700 meters (2100 feet) above sea level, is an exclusive nightly spectacle of beauty. The SpaceWelcome to "Jim's Place". Our beautiful one acre property is nestled 240 feet above sea level on a hillside in a gated community on the south west coast of Jamaica - 80 minutes from the Montego Bay airport. Our rental suite contains a sleeping area with double bed, ceiling fan, full bathroom, eat-in kitchenette and a private verandah with a staircase leading down to the pool and poolside cabana. The dining nook in the kitchen area can easily be converted into a 3/4 bed to accommodate a 3rd guest. This owner/architect designed home is unique and rustic in nature; evocative of traditional great houses. Sea breezes provide natural air conditioning through the louvered windows and doors. The guest suite is a few steps above the pool deck and gardens. Mango, moringa, frangipani, bougainvillea, poinciana, ginger and other tropical trees and plants fill the grounds. Our garden attracts many bird species, from parrotlets & hummingbirds to egrets, song birds and mourning doves. A bird sanctuary is just 5 miles to the east. The view from the upper veranda (shared) is an almost 180 degree horizon view of the breathtaking Caribbean Sea where each evening you can watch as the sun splashes into the ocean igniting the sky. The NeighborhoodThe south coast of Jamaica has many local attractions. The best part of Jim's Place is the peace, quiet and the "million dollar view". Our private beach is a 10 minute walk down the hill where you can wile away the hours searching for seashells and swimming in the warm ocean surf. Whitehouse [1 mile to the east] is one of Jamaica's primary fishing villages and boasts a local farmers' market for fresh daily produce. From high-end restaurants to "rum shops", ATMs to supermarkets, Whitehouse/Culloden can serve your every need. Just ask. You can even awake before dawn and meet the fishermen on the beach as they bring in their catches from the night before. Getting AroundOur well informed and experienced driver can be engaged for any tour; Day trips to YS Falls - Black River boat tour - Pelican Bar - Bamboo Avenue - Treasure Beach - Negril - to name a few - some of our guests' favourites. Local taxis are also available for charter or inexpensive country buses can be had easily. For the brave [drive on the left and beware of potholes] rental cars are available at about US$ 300 per week at Montego Bay airport. The expression "walk good" also works well locally. Other Things to NoteThe Canadian owners are artists/designers and welcome others in the arts field to come and share their talents and experiences. We like to think of our place as an Artists' Retreat.

Jim's Place is on a hillside acre in a gated community on the beautiful south west coast of Jamaica. We have been here for 15 years, but just now [2014] are making our place available to guests beyond friends and family. Our studio apartment is private and self-contained, with a sleeping area [double], an equipped kitchenette with dining booth, full bathroom and private veranda with a staircase that leads you to the pool and poolside cabana. The unit, on its own level, is nestled within a larger 3 storey villa home occupied by the Canadian owner. Although it could be described as "rustic" [no AC - the house is designed to catch the breezes] it is comfortable and includes WiFi, daily housekeeping service and much advice as to the many local amenities. The South coast of Jamaica is known for its laid-back, relatively undeveloped nature... an ideal place for rest and relaxation away from the bustle of tourist filled "all-inclusive" resort life. The village of Whitehouse is 1 mile to the east - a market town known across the region for its fish market as well as the local farmers' market for fresh produce. Our staff will be happy to guide you or do your daily shopping, you can even wake before the sun and meet the fishermen on the beach as they bring in their fresh catches from the night before. There are also many options for day trips to attractions, both local and further afield, and licenced tour drivers are always available. Or you can just sit back and relax - enjoy the amazing view and the soft breeze off the sea. The "Moon Guide" [a British travel publication] said that we enjoy "the best sunsets to be had in Jamaica". And that's the truth. Each night you'll watch as the sun drops into the Caribbean, splashing the sky with it's radiance. There are private [part of our community] and public beaches a 10 minute walk down the hill where you'll discover a truly wonderful way to spend the day, searching for seashells and swimming in the warm ocean surf, but know that we are 240 feet above sea level; so after the walk 'home', you will likely need a refreshing dip in the beautiful horizon pool overlooking our lush gardens and a cold Red Stripe. We are located in a gated community on the south west coast of Jamaica near Whitehouse, Westmoreland. Our 1 acre hillside garden property is about 240 feet above sea level which affords an amazing view of the the sea looking south west and soft breezes which keep the house cool. We have access to 2 private beaches [attached to the community] as well as public beaches used by locals and fishermen. Whitehouse, 1 mile east, is our local market town, with well stocked supermarkets, post office, banks and ATMs as well as a large farmers market for fresh produce and fish direct from the sea - weather permitting. There are also several restaurants - the new Blue Waters Restaurant and Lounge being a favourite, seaside experience. Day trips can be arranged with our licenced driver to the many attractions along the south coast, from Negril to the west to Treasure Beach to the east and parts in between. YS Falls is a popular spot as are boat tours on the Black River [Jamaica's longest at 40 miles] where you can see aligators and hundreds of tropical birds. We can arrange Montego Bay airport pick-ups with our regular driver at reasonable rates for the 80 minute trip across the island [recommended], or provide you with complete directions and alternate travel options. We encourage walking to explore the district, but can recommend reliable local drivers to take you around.

Modern, luxurious, Villa Amedis is ultra comfortable located on the laid back, 'old time friendly' south coast of Jamaica. Amedis is right on the sea in a gated community with its own beach. An infinity pool that flows into a second pool that ha built in seats and table at the house and an even more private 'fed by the sea spa' jacuzzi set in the rocks by the sea are the ultimate ways to cool off here. The villa staff of a houseman and a cook and a /housekeeper will see to your needs, introduce you to local dishes if you request and share their knowledge of the surrounding area and Jamaica. Five bedrooms, three with king beds one with a queen bed, and 1 with two twins beds (or if preferred, a king bed) that each have modern bathrooms. The villa is fully wireless internet equipped and features flat screen tv's in each room with cable, as well as the social area and movie room TV's being "smart TVs." Bring your ipod to dock with the stereo system and a wireless printer is provided for your laptop. The villa is approximately 5000 sq ft and sleeps 12 comfortably. Your neighbors are a friendly mix of local and international folks. The scenery along the coast is stunningly natural. Stalls with local fruits such as Starapple, Soursop, Naseberry, Jackfruit (a few of the more exotic ones) juicy mangoes and sugar cane are nearby. Lots of fish, crab, and even 'pepper shrimp' are sold by roadside women too. Interesting tours are nearby, YS Falls (with pools and zip line) rival Dunns river falls...maybe more spectacular in it's own way. Go on the Black River Safari Tour, see Egrets nesting and shake hands with George a 12ft crocodile. A great adventure is taking a outboard canoe to Floyds, a quaint bar in the middle of the sea (he dreamt it and went out and built it. Horse riding and the Appleton rum factory/tasting tour, are more of the activities in the area. On the days you decide to stay home, Lounge in the hammocks, snorkel, or fish off the rock. Leary, the house manager will make sure you're well taken care of. Lounge in either pool with refreshments, have the cook do you a BBQ on the outdoor kitchen. Top all this off with friendly, well travelled helpful neighbors for a vacation 'real Jamaican people' style. Gated community of villas on Jamaica's un'touristy' south coast. Suggested activities are outlined below. At the end of the list are some recommended itineraries for day-trips. Trips within one hour of the villa Accompong and Cockpit Country – The beautiful hills of Cockpit Country (described as “upturned egg boxes”) are home to the descendants of the once-mighty Maroons, escaped slaves who waged guerrilla war against the British. Visit the village of Accompong, which remains a semi-autonomous state governed by a Maroon council, meet the ‘Colonel’, tour the museum and learn about a fascinating slice of history. Appleton rum estate – Jamaica’s finest rum has been produced on this 11,000 acre estate since 1749. Take a tour of the estate, learn about the distillation process and taste a wide selection of fine local rums. Bars – There are a number of local bars with great character. Leroy’s bar on the waterfront at Belmont is highly recommended for a drink at sunset, or steamed fish at their regular parties on Sunday afternoon. Beaches – The beautiful beach which the Sandals Whitehouse hotel is situated on is just five minutes’ walk away and open to the public. There are also a number of lovely small beaches within a 15 minute drive that the staff can direct you to, ranging from secluded spots with nobody on them to beach parks that are popular with locals on weekends and public holidays. The famous seven mile beach of Negril is just an hour’s drive away. Belmont and Bluefields - These two beautiful neighbouring fishing villages have white sand beaches, good seafood restaurants and a laid-back vibe. The large Bluefields Bay was the departure point for pirate Henry Morgan when he set sail to sack Panama. Birdwatching – The nearby Bluefield Mountains are listed by Birdlife International as one of Jamaica’s ‘globally-important bird areas’. 20 of Jamaica’s 28 endemic bird species can be found here. Take a tour with an award-winning, experienced local guide, enjoy stunning views of the sea and see what you can see! Black River boat safari – The Black River is home to one of the largest populations of crocodiles in Jamaica. Take an unforgettable trip up the lovely river into a beautiful country wilderness. Enjoy the magnificent views and spot the crocodiles and many species of rare birds. River fishing trips are also available. Boat tours – You can be picked up from our private jetty and be taken on a boat tour to see dolphins near Treasure Beach, onto the Pelican Bar and then deep into the tributaries of the Black River. Bamboo Avenue, and Middle Quarters – Bamboo Avenue is one of the famous sights of Jamaica – a two mile ‘tunnel’ of overhanging bamboo. On the way home, stop at Middle Quarters to buy some freshly caught hot pepper freshwater river shrimp at the roadside. Fishing – Deep sea fishing trips can be arranged with experienced local fishermen who have rods and all necessary equipment. Golf – A golf course designed by Greg Norman is planned for Culloden within the next 18 months! In the meantime, if you are a golf fan, Montego Bay and Negril are home to a number of world class championship golf courses – all within one hour of Culloden Cove. Clubs are available for hire at all courses. Horse riding – Take a trip to the appropriately named Paradise estate and enjoy horse riding across an old plantation, along a deserted white sand beach and even through the sea. Lovers Leap - According to legend, two young lovers - slaves at a nearby plantation – threw themselves off the 2,000 foot cliffs into the sea rather than be separated by their owners. There is a lovely restaurant and bar on the spot with a large balcony to enjoy the stunning panoramic view. Montego Bay – Jamaica’s second-largest city is an hour’s drive away. A major tourist centre, the city has a beautiful white sand beach and a wide range of bars, restaurants and shops. Head for the public Doctor’s Cave beach. Montego Bay is also home to two of Jamaica’s best music festivals – the Jazz and Blues Festival in January and Reggae Sumfest in July. Negril – The world-famous seven mile beach in Negril is just an hour’s drive away along the beautiful coastline. This is where sun, sea and reggae really come together. Relax on the pristine beach in the day-time, enjoy the waterpark and other local attractions, and in the evening enjoy the delicious restaurants and great local music. Pelican Bar – Local fisherman Floyd had the vision to build a wooden bar on stilts, a mile off shore on a sand bar in the middle of the sea! You can be picked up by boat from Parottee on the mainland and enjoy a blissful few hours eating the freshest fish, lounging on their deck and snorkelling. Peter Tosh Mausoleum – The neighbouring village of Belmont is the birthplace of reggae legend Peter Tosh (Bob Marley’s partner in the Wailers). You can visit his home and mausoleum and meet his Mum. Restaurants – There are a number of good local restaurants near to the villa that serve delicious fresh seafood and good Jamaican food, made with local ingredients. Royal Palm Nature Reserve near Negril has been created to safeguard a vast wetland area home to many species of rare plants and birds. Dawn or dusk bird-watching and fishing trips are available. Sandals Whitehouse Resort - The luxury all-inclusive Sandals resort is a two minute drive away and boasts over a mile of white sandy beach. The resort also has eight international restaurants, a luxury spa, gym, tennis courts and the largest swimming pool in Jamaica. A wide range of water sports are on offer. Day and night passes are available. Treasure Beach - This laid-back community has become a hub for eco-tourism on the South Coast. Treasure Beach is a string of fishing villages with black-sand beaches and some excellent restaurants. Watersports - Sandals offer an extensive range of watersports including diving, kayaking and sailing. YS Falls – This stunning 120 foot, eight tiered waterfall is one the most famous sights of Jamaica. The refreshing rock pools are perfect for swimming while a zip-line rope slide tempts the more adventurous. A little further afield Little Ochi, Aligator Pond – The best restaurant in Jamaica! Not the flashest by any stretch, but if eating an amazing range of delicious fresh fish and seafood on the beach sounds appealing you will love it. Manatees – A small population of endangered ‘sea cows’ live in a wetland area, east of Culloden. These rare animals are thought to be the origin of the myth of mermaids. A trip to see the manatees up the lonely road connecting Alligator Pond and Alligator Hole is a truly unforgettable experience.
