You will see books on the shelves. Feel free to pick up any book you like and enjoy it here. (Books under lock and key are private property of a maniac. Books which are not under lock and key is also from a ‘partly rehabilitated maniac’.)
The farm and its surroundings are teeming with a million tiny and not so tiny creatures, all waiting to be photographed without being disturbed.
If you sit quietly and patiently, you may see quite a few of the birds that pass through the land. (Over the last 3 years, we have recorded around 70 different bird species around the land.) You may see some uncommon birds as close as 15 feet from the house, on the trees, bushes and undergrowth.
Butterflies and Moths.
Different seasons bring a variety of butterflies and moths that help pollinating the plants.
Prey and Predator.
Dragon flies and Damsel flies, Grass hoppers, Spiders, Frogs and Birds
Rich and varied diversity of birds, insects and spiders help to control insect pests. Birds are busy seeking and eating insects that live among the trees and bushes. Spiders lie in wait for unsuspecting insects to walk into their path or fly into their webs. Dragonflies flutter around waiting for their meal of insects.
Please enjoy the beautiful walks around the farm to enjoy the surrounding area. Enjoy the clean fresh air. The rains are beautiful, winters awesome! If you smell something strange, it must be the Oxygen!
We have tried out best that the land is managed naturally by the weather and the ecology natural to this area. The emphasis is for the land to find its own balance.
The canopy above and the ground cover of leaves help mulching and the conservation of the fragile top soil.
Pest populations are also kept in control when multiple cropping and location change of crops are practiced.
Cow dung and cow urine processed and mixed together with natural ingredients and specific leaves form the biomass and compost to feed the plants. The micro organisms in the soil recycle all natural and decaying matter in the soil to convert them into the form where the plants can use them as food. The biomass and the humus provide moisture retention, microbe stimulation, support soil structure improvement and improved nutrient uptake. Intentionally leaving fallow spaces and water bodies /ponds within the property allows creation of habitats that promote populations of a wide range predatory species. As a result, we now have excellent populations of ants, spiders, wasps, dragonflies, frogs, lizards, snakes, and birds. These keep the pest populations under control, all of which contribute towards building up of a diverse and healthy agri-ecosystem.
There is a well. It is not a swimming pool. (I forget if I left a couple of Piranhas in the well. I may have forgotten to feed them. You can check for me?)
Our ideal guests are nature lovers, bird-watchers, and simply people who are looking for a ‘time-out’ or ‘break’ from the stress of everyday life. We invite guests who treasure their own privacy and appreciate the understated luxury of a quiet, peaceful place. With our own four acres of a chemical-free environment and greenery, it is an absolute delight for the senses.
The design and ideas of the house are based on the famous architect Mr. Lawrie Baker, a proponent for the use and reuse of natural and local materials. Every room is well shaded from the sun, bright and airy. The high ceiling and the terracotta roof keeps the house cool in the summer, nice and cosy in the winter.
Every room has a view of the greenery outside. It is like being encased in a green cocoon.
You wake up to the birdsongs, and listen to the whisper of the leaves throughout your time at the farm. At night the serenade by the night creatures and insects keep you company.
Our center room also serves as a dining room. The large area under the windows of the main room and the bedroom are an ideal place often used by children to play board games during the day. (It is sometimes zealously taken up as their sleeping place by night.)
It is a home very different from our normal homes and we hope you and your family find as much joy as we find in it.
A few benches will be shortly placed in different parts of the land for bird watching / sitting around.

THE SIMPLE RULES:
Treat the house, its belongings and staff with courtesy and care.
It is located in a quiet, green rural area. It was a dry scrubland devoid of the many trees and vegetation. What you see now is the result of nurturing the land to grow back into a forest, a natural mini eco system. It has taken a lot of effort to bring back the birds and insects that live on the land.
It is a perfect place to relax and recharge you. It is a place to detoxify from the digital mania.
It is very important for us that our guests respect and enjoy the peaceful environment, without any disturbance for the creatures that live on the land.
If the above appeals to you, we would be delighted to welcome you, your family and friends at ‘MAHUA FARMS’. Interaction with GuestsTHE STAFF:
