The SpaceYour room has a comfy queen bed, private deck with canyon and forest views. The second room, separated by a hallway and bathroom, has two twin beds - you may select whichever room you prefer. The bathroom has a single sink, water closet and shower. There's a separate, private entrance so you can come and go as you please without worrying about disturbing us. The 900 + sq. ft. guest suite is located downstairs from the main house, you'll have a quiet and private area all to yourselves with a media room, library and outdoor fireplace, or come on up to join us and share our hospitality. The house is built to maximize the views and blend in with the woodland surroundings. The 5-acre property has majestic redwood cathedrals and a peek of the ocean, sunsets are spectacular! Your closest neighbors will be quail, wild turkeys, cottontail rabbits, raccoons, owls, deer, coyote and our buddy 'Bob' , the faithful bobcat who performs gopher patrol. If you are looking for scenic beauty and a pleasant ambiance, the stillness of the Bonny Doon night will calm your soul. We enjoy hosting visitors from all over the world. It gives us great joy to share the glorious Central Coast, there are so many fun, interesting things to do...beach combing, biking, hiking, windsurfing, antiquing, golfing, wine tasting; plus so many places to visit, the amazing UCSC campus is 15 minutes away, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, the charming seaside town of Capitola, numerous State Parks (inc. Big Basin and Henry Cowell), Roaring Camp railroad in Felton, the quaint north coast beach villages of Davenport, Pescadero and San Gregorio. San Francisco to the north, Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur to the south are excellent day trips. And if you want to play golf, Dick knows all the courses. Our friends joke that in our next lives we will come back as tour guides. My husband and I can put together a family style dinner, pour a glass of local wine, prepare a modest breakfast, pack a lunch to go, whatever works for you. You can BBQ if you want. We travel a lot and we know how important it is to feel comfortable and to be happy in new surroundings. We look forward to meeting you.

The SpaceThe beauty of the Santa Cruz mountains awaits you! Our home is situated exceptionally well, balancing accessibility with seclusion. Ten minutes to Felton's quaint main street, fifteen minutes to the beach, twenty minutes to downtown Santa Cruz, ninety minutes to San Francisco up scenic Highway 1. But when you are sipping tea or a beer on the porch, you'll hear nothing but the hummingbirds and the wind in the trees. We have two bedrooms for rent in our home. This listing is for one of the rooms - check our other listing if you have a larger party and would like to rent the other room as well, or you need other dates available. Both rooms have large, comfortable king sized beds with European-style goose down duvets and electric bed warmers for cold mountain nights. There is a large bathroom downstairs for your use, shared between the two bedrooms and stocked with shampoo and other toiletries. There is a coffee and tea bar where you can make drinks, but there is NO KITCHEN. The bedrooms are both downstairs, while the master bedroom and main living area are upstairs. The upstairs is private, and there is no kitchen access for guests. If we are at home and not too busy we like to make cookies or cocktails for our guests, or invite you to share breakfast with us. Excellent high-speed wireless access throughout the house, though occasionally it needs to be reset. Parking is not a problem. We are in the mountains and the drive can be difficult if you are not used to steep winding roads! It's dark at night and GPS doesn't always work. We share our home with a friendly dog and two cats. The dog is a calm Australian Shepherd /English Setter mix who doesn't bark or jump up. He enjoys new people and loves belly rubs. Our grey cat spends the majority of his time lounging and prowling outside, and the calico cat goes wherever she pleases :-) We are always trying to make our lifestyle more sustainable, and installed a full set of solar panels last year! The house is nearly 100% solar powered, and the hot tub solar-heated. In the winter we use a wood stove that burns what we've cleared from our land. We also line-dry our sheets and towels, compost, and recycle. Guest AccessWithin the house, the two bedrooms, bathroom, and coffee bar are "guest space". We keep the upstairs (kitchen, living room, master bedroom) private, but on occasion can accommodate special requests for kitchen use. The washer, dryer, clothesline, and iron are downstairs and you may use them. - we always encourage green living and use of the clothesline! It works wonderfully. The lower deck has chairs and tables, and guests can enjoy access to the garden, hot tub, and endless hiking trails through redwoods and past a natural spring. Our 8+ acres backs up to Henry Cowell State Park. Soak in the hot tub while enjoying an unobstructed view of the stars! Interaction with GuestsWe are often happy to hang out and chat, or to set you up and give you your privacy, as you prefer. Some of our best airbnb memories have been impromptu dinner gatherings in the garden under the mimosa tree - if you see us outside, come over and join us! We have lived all over the Bay Area and are full of good ideas for places to visit, and we love sharing stories. While we also live in the house, you won't always see much of us, as we can be busy - if we are not at home to welcome you, we will make our best effort to communicate and set everything up so you feel comfortable. We host with airbnb for the joy of it, because we love meeting interesting people and sharing our beautiful home with appreciative guests. The NeighborhoodBonny Doon is a charming community in the mountains, blending serious old-timers with vacation-home implants, and intentionally keeping itself "rural and natural." The people here consciously cultivate a sense of community and are genuinely friendly. The beauty of the Santa Cruz mountains is phenomenal. Our home is centrally located between several state parks: Big Basin, Henry Cowell (to which we are adjacent), Wilder Ranch and Waddell Beach. The beach town of Davenport is fifteen minutes away, and boasts a good restaurant (the Roadhouse), a locally-famous cafe/bakery, frequent live music, and a sprinkling of shops, all with Pacific views. The mountain towns of Felton, Ben Lomond, and Boulder Creek area also nearby and quaint. Nearby Santa Cruz is full of charms that include and transcend its tourist-spot reputation! Don't miss going to the beach - the boardwalk for tourist tradition, or colorful Capitola, or one of many secluded coves such as Bonny Doon Beach. Enjoy the chic Pacific Avenue Mall, an array of thrift/vintage shops, a vibrant music scene, and some great restaurants. Getting AroundThe bus line runs on Empire Grade just a quarter mile away down a private road, and you are welcome to investigate it. Having private transport is highly recommended, though. Parking is simple and abundant. The nearest airport is Monterey, which is quite nice, though it's small - SFO is just over an hour away. Rental cars are abundantly available there. Taxis and Uber are difficult to find in this area. Other Things to NoteWe do charge $20 extra per person over 2 people, including babies and children. The super-comfy king size bed is large enough to accommodate 2 adults and a child, but three adults can be a stretch! Sometimes we have a foam mattress available to put on the floor, but be warned that it's not the most comfortable. Please check with us if you plan on bringing a young child, as the rooms are right next to each other and we want all our guests to have a good experience!

The SpaceEnjoy healthy mountain living in a park-like setting -- ten acres of native forests, meadows, a beautiful garden and a pond! Relax in our charming two bedroom cottage, with a newly-remodeled, fully equipped kitchen, two comfortable bedrooms (one with queen sized bed, the other with two twins), a new bathroom with shower, and cozy living and dining rooms. We provide linen on the beds and four sets of towels. You get your own private garden patio next to the forest, with gas BBQ and 6-seat outdoor table. Your entrance is a nice new porch with rocking chair. Our water is tested clean -- delicious well water from our property. For our cool mountain nights we can heat the cottage using the wood stove or the hallway gas heater. The mountains usually don't get very hot so we don't have air conditioning, but we do have ceiling fans. The cottage sits inside a residential compound including two other units, a large beautiful central garden and an orchard. Kids will enjoy looking at our chickens and ducks, but please do not open the coop. We have one friendly resident dog (an Australian cattle dog) named Hazel. Because she is excitable, we ask that you don't bring other pets. Please don't feed Hazel or let Hazel outside the deer fence. We have a pond on our property outside the fence that you are welcome to walk around. Please be careful not to fall in the pond -- it is deep and is dangerous to small children or non-swimmers. Please don't fish or use the rowboats. There are many wild animals around the property, including many birds, deer, rabbits, bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions, altho the deer fence tends to keep most of them out of the residential area. We are in a rural area with only Verizon cellular coverage (we have a Verizon minitower on an adjacent unit) but no other carriers. We don't have a TV or cable in the cottage. We recently put a Wifi extender into the Cottage so the signal should be very good there now. We also have a dedicated OOMA telephone in the Cottage for your use. We have a beehive at the back of the orchard, so please stay away from those white boxes! Enjoy your stay! Guest AccessYour own private patio and BBQ; the central garden; walk around the pond. Kitchenware, full gas range, black granite counters, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker (including ground coffee, creamer and sugar), and large refrigerator. Interaction with GuestsWe will leave you alone if you like, but Ed lives on the property is available for advice and help if needed. The NeighborhoodWe are next door to the tasting room for a good local winery, and there are many more wineries in the area. 1 mile up the road is an ecological preserve with great hiking. It is 3 miles down the mountain to a nice beach. The roads around us don't have a lot of cars so the area is great for bicycling. Go north on Highway One and you are at Davenport, an old whaling town with a nice restaurant and another nice beach. Just further north on the coast is Ano Nuevo State Park, where the giant elephant seals raise their babies on the beach each spring. Also close by are Big Basin State Park (with old growth redwoods), Henry Cowell State Park and many other great parks. And of course, we are only 13 miles north of the wonderful town of Santa Cruz. Getting AroundWe are in a rural area so guests will need to have a car. Other Things to NoteThe closest grocery stores are in Felton (New Leaf) and Santa Cruz (Safeway, New Leaf and Costco). If you plan to go by the pond in the evening, bring mosquito repellent.

The SpaceEnjoy healthy mountain living -- ten acres of native forests, meadows, a beautiful garden and a pond! The cottage is on a little hill overlooking our own pond, and sits next to our fruit orchard. The living room and bedroom windows are west-facing and get plenty of light. There is lots of privacy and distance to the other units on the property. The interior is rustic but very new and bright, with your own wood burning stove and electric radiant heat. Our water is tested clean -- delicious well water from our property. For our cool mountain nights we can heat the cottage using the wood stove or electric heaters. The mountains usually don't get very hot so we don't have air conditioning, but we do have a ceiling fan. The cottage sits inside a residential compound including two other units, a large beautiful central garden and an orchard. The residential area is enclosed by an 8 foot high deer fence, so that the deer don't eat everything. Please close the deer gates when you go in and out of the compound Kids will enjoy looking at our chickens and ducks, but please do not open the coop. The Cottage also has a OOMA VOIP land line (party line with another unit) for free nationwide calling. We have a beehive at the back of the orchard, so please stay away from those white boxes! Enjoy your stay! Guest AccessYou will have access to our large central garden with flowers year round, and you can take walks down around our pond. Interaction with GuestsEd lives on the property and will be available especially in the evenings The NeighborhoodWe are in the mountains surrounded by redwoods, meadows and a winery. Getting AroundWe are in the Santa Cruz mountains in a rural neighborhood with almost no public transportation -- there are two buses a day coming through from Santa Cruz -- to a car is a must. Other Things to NoteOur resident dog, Hazel, is very friendly and loves guests. We have a couple of ducks and one chicken roaming the property. There are lots of wild animals and birds in and around the property, especially outside of the deer fenced area. The closest grocery stores are in Felton (New Leaf) and Santa Cruz (Safeway, New Leaf and Costco). If you plan to go by the pond in the evening, bring mosquito repellent.

Community Guidelines: We love quiet from 10 pm to around 8:30 am. Some of us are meditating and doing yoga during that time. We also turn off the wireless internet during those hours. We encourage organic, non-GMO food, as we compost it in our garden. We'll provide organic shampoo and soaps – these are important, as shower and laundry wastewater leads to one of our garden springs. We recycle everything imaginable, and encourage you to do so also. If you don't know how, we are happy to teach you. No smoking, candles or pets.
