THANKFULNEST Here is the Family history of Ocean Point and Thankfulnest: My great grandfather and grandfather built a small cottage near the casino in the early 1900's. My mother and 3 brothers grew up there during the summers from then on. As she married and had 3 children, we spent the month of August with my grandparents. One of her brothers purchased his own cottage on the shore road and my Dad purchased the cottage on Grimes Ave in 1960. Over the years, I have met life long friends from all over the country who keep coming back to Grimes Cove. After many years of blood, sweat and tears, the cottage was transformed into what we know today as Thankfulnest. We have been so blessed to own property on a quiet dead end street with a view of the ocean and access to the water measured in only hundreds of feet. A cove for swimming and boating is at the end of the street with a boat landing to launch if desired. The salt air smell and the pounding surf can be smelled, heard and felt as the ocean crashed on the rocks at the foot of the street. Many nights are spent on the rocks watching a meteor shower, staring at the stars or being in awe of the full moon's reflection on the ocean. Our grandchildren are playing on the same rocks, caves and swimming in the same tidal pools as my Mom, my siblings and I and my children did. It is a special place for folks of all ages and one that we are most thankful for. We look forward to sharing Thankfulnest with those that have a love for solitude, fresh salt air, the ocean breeze and being surrounded by God's creation. We look forward to your visit. Sincerely, The Alden/Eddings Family. Grime’s Cove Avenue is a pine tree lined street on the Eastern most tip of the coastal community of the Ocean Point Colony. The ocean is seen and the salt air smelled from the Ocean facing front windows of the cottage on both levels of the house. The rock-bound coast is 200 yards from the front door, easily accessed and great for walking, exploring, sitting, napping, hiding and seeking. Grimes Cove, a public beach, boat launch and gathering place for vacationers to swim, kayak and read on the rocks and is just a short walk from the cottage. The Shore Road winds along the coast for over a mile allowing one to throw a stone in the ocean at any point. The magical sunsets and gorgeous views make for unlimited `photo ops`. Thankfulnest evokes a thankfulness for the natural beauty that is the Maine Coast. SO MUCH TO SEE, SO MUCH TO DO! Walking, birding, kayaking, canoeing and swimming are on the agenda from Thankfulnest. Ocean Point is a beautiful tip of land in East Boothbay, a quaint little cottage community. Photographers the world over come here for the beautiful scenes nature serves up every single day. With views stretching out to the ocean, there are islands, shoals, boats of every size and type as well as aquatic wildlife to watch for! Whales, seals, otters and porpoise along with all kinds of shore birds play hide-and-seek off the shore. Make that morning cup of coffee and sit on the deck enjoying the sounds of the ocean and sight of the sun rising – what a great beginning to the day. Or end the day with family conversation or yard games as you watch the sunset. Head over to The Ocean Point Inn for their famous chowder or lobster rolls, a traditional lobster dinner or just for cocktails. Heading back towards town are several restaurants, cafes, shops and galleries for you to explore. And of course, you are a beautiful 10-minute drive from the village of Boothbay Harbor. THE HOUSE Thankfulnest is a dog-friendly, two-story Maine Cottage with 4 bedrooms and 1 ½ bathrooms, a lovely large yard that would be perfect for hide and seek or horse shoes. The open porch in the back yard with outdoor table and chairs allows an outdoor eating option with the sound and smell of the nearby to help generate a big appetite. Lobster and seafood is bountiful and delicouse. This cottage has been lovingly cared for by the owner’s family for generations. The memorabilia found on the walls and shelves is typical of this type of summer cottage in the area. There are views to the ocean from the front room, yard and the two front-facing upstairs bedrooms. The house sits atop of a small hill, the tree-lined dead end road that stretches down towards the ocean and rocky shoreline as well as the public beach and boat launch at Grimes Cove. The main floor has a nice sized, open living room with picture windows letting in the natural light. The furniture is comfortable with plenty to accommodate the family watching a baseball game comfortably with the large flat screen TV. On the occasional chilly or foggy night, have a fire in the wood burning fireplace to ward of the chill. The fully equipped kitchen has a little breakfast nook for those early risers. A door to the porch off the kitchen for more dining seating and to access the grill. There is a dining room on the first floor that would easily accommodate the family for a meal. Between the fresh air, sunshine and playtime at the beach, getting them to sleep should not take too much effort. The second floor has the homes four bedrooms along with a half bath and washer/dryer. The owners have left two kayaks for their guests use, which you can launch from the boat launch at Grimes Cove at the end of your road. BEDROOMS The southeast bedroom has a Queen Bed and slight views of the ocean. LAZY DAYS Great place for kayakers! Lazy Days is the perfect spot to watch the ‘commuters’ (i.e. boat traffic) come and go into Boothbay Harbor and out to the Atlantic. From your private water-side deck, you have one of the best views around. Relax with your beverage of choice and watch the sun go down. Swim from the shared, pebble beach or walk into town (about two miles) for a meal or to shop. Packages too heavy to walk home? Not a problem, hop onto the trolley that will take you to the East Side of the Harbor and drop you off at the old Boothbay Region Lobstermen's Co-op, the walk will be easier from there. Lazy Days is a great location for a nice lazy vacation in Mid-coast Maine! SO MUCH TO SEE, SO MUCH TO DO! Adventurers are welcome too! Rent kayaks, take sailing lessons, grab the water-taxi into the harbor for a whale watch or sunset cruise. Explore the Boothbay Region Land Trust trails at Lobster Cover or check out the many tide pools along the rocky coastline. Walk down to the shared pebbly beach through the spacious, flowering yard to launch your kayak or canoe. Bring your own or rent locally! Step back in time with a rousing game of badminton or croquette on this large, beautifully landscaped lawn. Your family and friends will look forward to coming back to this cottage at the edge of the sea time and time again. There is so much to do from this easy location, so pack your walking shoes, sailing shoes, dancing shoes and at least one pair of flip flops! And don’t forget your camera because you are going to want to remember every single second! THE HOUSE Lazy Days is an old fisherman's domicile - though modernized – it has quaint and historic flavor combined with comfort, space and a fabulous view. WHY BOOK WITH COTTAGE CONNECTION? Vacation Rentals. Privately Owned. Professionally Managed. Trusted since 1993. Cottage Connection was one of the first vacation rental companies in the Mid-coast region of Maine. Jeff and Audrey Miller, who own three vacation rental homes themselves had an aha moment when they realized they could not find anyone who ‘got it’ to manager their rentals for them. Since 1993 they have been trusted by homeowners and vacationers to “connect” each family with the perfect cottage for their vacation. As Audrey puts it; “The home they stay in becomes a personality, a part of their lore when a family connects with the right cottage. Whether they want a rustic cabin in the woods or a high-end ocean bungalow, the right setting sets the tone for the entire vacation.” Learn more about how Cottage Connection can help make your vacation perfect!
