The trip is easy. No passport. We are an easy 2½-hour highway drive from the San Juan airport, through stunning scenery, or 50 minutes from the smaller, Aguadilla airport. Our simple wood home is located on the outskirts of Boquerón, a fishing village known for its ostiones (small oysters), small open-air restaurants, vibrant weekend nightlife, and horses -- and for its gorgeous beaches. Boquerón, Buye, and Combate beaches all face the west, with calm waters perfect for swimming or soaking in, plenty of sand and shade trees, and spectacular sunsets over the ocean. Buye, our favorite is a 7 minute drive, while the Boqueron and Combate beaches are 5 and 15 minutes away, respectively. Playa Sucia, about 20 minutes away, is also not to be missed; a dramatic rounded inlet, bordered by a lighthouse and dramatic cliffs, salt flats with a bird sanctuary, and slightly rougher waters.
Our screened front and back porches, surrounded by a lush landscape of palm, flamboyant, and mango trees, and lots of birds, are perfect for meals, lounging, surfing the internet on your laptop, or relaxing in a hammock. You can pick delicious mangoes and coconuts, and watch movies on your Netflix account!
The house has an open living room-dining room-kitchen area, which opens into an adjoining study. The two bedrooms both have new queen beds, one of which splits into two singles, and there is a fold-out double bed in the living room for an extra guest. We have a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, and inside and outside showers. We aspire to being affordable and green, with recycled grey-water, solar-heated hot water, ceiling fans instead of air conditioning, non-toxic yard and house products, compost pile, and simple, wood-frame construction. There are supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies, and fruit and vegetable stands within 15 minutes, and Mayaguez, a cultural center of the island ((URL HIDDEN) is only 20 minutes away.
Come experience la Isla del Encanto, -- the Island of Enchantment -- in our beautiful, comfortable, and affordable home away from home. Interaction with GuestsWe will be a call away to answer any questions during your stay. Other Things to NoteWe are in a semi-rural area, surrounded by trees and birds. Our next door neighbor has chickens, roosters, and two dogs, which have bothered guests who are light sleepers. Most get used to them within a day and enjoy the country feeling, but if rural sounds bother you, this isn't the place.
