The SpaceBoth bedrooms are really large, light and airy, with lovely views either accross to Dartmoor, or over the garden. We have just finished decorating the bedrooms and completely modernising the bathrooms, and both ensuites now have brand new showers and modern fittings. The front bedroom has a large bay-window with panoramic views, right accross to Dartmoor. This room also has a double futon for children to sleep on if you want to bring the kids (please chat to Helen and Neil if you will have kids with you - we just need to add a fee to the bill to cover the costs of additional bedding and breakfasts). The back bedroom overlooks the peaceful garden, and this bed can be divided into two singles, if preferred. Both rooms have a tv, tea and coffee tray, and ample storage and hanging space. The pictures will hopefully show you just how lovely, characterful and spacious the rooms are.
Guest AccessGuests will have access to the garden, and can choose to have breakfast in either the large kitchen-diner (in front of the wood-burner in the winter) or in the conservatory, or in the garden if the weather is good. You can make tea, hot chocolate and filter coffee in your rooms and we will make sure you have plenty of supplies. Interaction with GuestsFeel free to chat if you want company! Or if you want peace and quiet, that's fine too. We will be around - Helen is at home during school holidays, and Neil is home in the evening and at weekends. The NeighborhoodBovey Tracey is a thriving little Devon town, known as "the Gateway to the Moor". You can walk into the centre of Bovey from the house (it's about 5 minutes walk), or stroll to our beautiful park, which has a fabulous play area for kids. Access to Parke (a national trust estate with lovely riverside woodland walks) is about a 5 minute walk too. There is a well known Art Centre and Guild of Craftsmen in Bovey, which hosts exhibitions all year round. Bovey has many cafes (the nearest, the Brookside, is lovely) and some good pubs, all within a 5 minute walk. If you want to venture further afield. the bus to Exeter and Newton Abbot stops literally right outside the house! If you are a keen walker, there are many walks from Bovey and accross Dartmoor, (you can walk right onto Dartmoor) and it's also a very popular area for cyclists. If you don't want to leave Bovey, you can get everything you need in our high street - post office, chemist, deli, bakery, butchers, wool shop, craft shops, grocers and jewellers. The views around here are spectacular, and it's hard to find a nicer part of Devon. You can easily drive to the beach or to Plymouth or Exeter (all within half an hour's drive). Overnight secure storage is available for bikes, surf boards etc.
Getting AroundThe bus stops are right outside the house. You can park in the drive if you have your own transport. The nearest railway station is at Newton Abbot, and we can provide you with numbers for local taxi services, if needed. Other Things to NoteWe are a family with 4 kids (3 grown up, one at home) so life can be either very hectic or pretty quiet. Either way, the house is big enough for you not to notice what's going on, and your own room will always be peaceful! We have one cat, and one lazy Jack Russell dog. Both pets are very friendly, used to kids, and extremely gentle. Our dog may bark a lot when you arrive, but once you are in, he will just wag at you.
Continental breakfast will be provided, or you can have a traditional cooked breakfast, if you let us know the night before. For your continental breakfast please choose from the selection of cereals, porridge, home-made bread, fruit, and yoghurts. If you choose a traditional cooked breakfast it will be made from locally sourced bacon and sausages, and the eggs are fresh from our own chickens.
