The SpaceSmall but comfortable enough for two. It's not totally isolated but lies between host's adjacent home and a neighbor's house which is some 300 yds away. It is approximately 2 1/2 miles from the center of Brattleboro. Accommodates two comfortably with a log cabin style Queen bed. All bedding, including quilt, is laundered fresh for each guest. Paper products are supplied and there is a hair dryer in the bathroom. The Cottage has a Roku for Netflix, Amazon etc. There is also a DVD player. The Hi-speed internet from Comcast has wireless connection through a range extender, please note that this can be patchy. A positive Cat 6 wired connection is available. Please note that Wi-Fi is not guaranteed. Access details are in a folder in the cottage. We are essentially a 'hands off' listing. You will have all the privacy or interaction you want, coupled with immediate personal contact by phone or internet if you need it. This listing is essentially a no need to meet check in and no need for check-out contact. We have developed this Airbnb basically as a no interference hands off rental, unless of course you need something or if anything is problematic. You can always waddle over to see us or call the numbers on the bottom of this welcome letter for anything you need. We believe this offers you maximum privacy to come and go as you please. No need to check in or out unless you have special arrival or departure times. Some additional points to note: The interconnecting doors are low, so for the height challenged you will need to duck. The fridge is rather small, 3 X 2? and the cottage is, as described, small and cosy. Cell tower phone access is patchy, dependent upon your carrier and not guaranteed. Guest AccessThe kitchen has a small two burner stove top a toaster, coffee maker, small dormitory sized fridge, pots pans, utensils, and other necessary kitchen items. Additionally there is a gas fired grill on the patio/deck. There is also a metal fire pit with wood provided. Coffee and tea will be provided. List of numbers is in folder in cottage. The NeighborhoodWalking/cycling dirt roads and trails right from your doorstep. Hiking trail maps in cottage. Quiet waterway with access to two rivers just one mile distant. Excellent spot for leaf peeping in fall, and not too distant from Skiing in winter. Getting AroundPublic transport is virtually non existent, a vehicle is essential, four wheel drive not necessary but better during winter and mud seasons. Other Things to NoteUpon arrival enter driveway between 840 and 850 mailboxes, and to the right of the big red barn. The Cottage is visible from road. See listing photos for views from road. Please do not park on grass in winter. Park at left space of two marked by wooden parking lot stops with the left one clearly marked as cottage. Please do not park in front of big red barn. Thanks.

Welcome to the Culbertson House! This adorable studio apartment was completely refinished a few years ago. It features a gorgeous stone fireplace, tasteful furnishings and decoration, a comfortable king-size bed, fully equipped kitchen, full bath with shower, and exquisite hardwood walls and floor. Located in a quiet but very convenient neighborhood, it is 1.5 miles from the shopping, entertainment and dining in downtown Brattleboro, a 5-minute walk to the famous Brattleboro Farmers' Market, near recreation facilities at Living Memorial Park, and just minutes away from excellent shopping and restaurants. The ski resorts at Mt. Snow and Stratton are about 40 minutes drive. It's very close to Interstate 91 and Rt 9 but feels like you're in the woods. Landscaped gardens and lawns border the woods where there are extensive hiking trails, and you'll often see a deer walking across the back lawn. This studio is perfect for vacationing couples, people coming to Brattleboro on business, and folks looking to relocate to this area who need a nice place to stay while they look for more permanent housing. The owners live right next door so we are always available for questions about the area, problems and conversation. A bit of history about the house: it once belonged to the legendary master of American Contract Bridge, Ely Culbertson. He held bridge parties here and wrote some of his famous treatises on world peace; the street where the house is located is named after him.

The SpaceA wonderful large tiny house that we built new in 2011. It's Ideal for those interested in tiny (but not too-tiny) living. 16' by 22' and 19' high (abt. 450 sq ft of floor space) with full stairs to a loft that holds a queen bed with room for a dresser, shelves, and a full widow. Normal bathroom and shower with stacked washer/dryer. Fully-equipped kitchen with regular-sized gas cook stove/oven with hood and vent. Vaulted ceiling in main area creates a sense of spaciousness. House is super-insulated so it holds nighttime cool all day in the summer, and heats very easily with quiet Rinnai heater in winter. Shed outside with chest freezer and space for bikes and gear out of rain and snow. Small yard/garden space, crawl space storage available. Guest AccessYou have use of everything within the house's fence (house, yard, shed). There's even a canoe one could take to the rivers or Lake Spofford. You have one parking space in our driveway off the street (two spaces during some times of the year). You can also use our lawn if we talk about it. Interaction with GuestsWe'll be there. Laura is home with the kids a lot of the day. The NeighborhoodIt's unique only in that it's a wonderful family neighborhood. Houses are tucked in tight with mostly quiet families with picket fences, yards and trees. Sometimes there's a bit of car noise on Pine St, but you're set back further then our main house is and it's not bad for us, except the occasional Harley. We love it because we feel safe, we know the neighbors, and we can walk to town and stores, are close to the highway, but also have a yard. Brattleboro is unique and we've got plenty of recommendations in the house manual for what do to, where to go and what to eat. Getting AroundYou can walk/bike to town, supermarkets, shops, movies, everything, within about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile. It's hilly! We're very close to (but can't hear) I-91 north and south, and Rte. 9 east and west. There is a taxi in town too. Literally, I think, one taxi. But it's not that busy. (URL HIDDEN) You can walk about 1/2 a mile to Amtrak's Vermonter train (station downtown) to NYC or points north. The Current is the public transit bus that runs, seemingly whenever it feels like it every hour or so, within Brattleboro and between local towns. Trip planner here: (URL HIDDEN) Brattleboro even has a Tesla charging station that is a 1/2 mile from us. It's also about 1/2 mile to a coach bus to Boston or NYC near exit 1 off I-91: (URL HIDDEN) Other Things to NoteWe are 200 miles north of NYC and 5 minutes from Exit 1 off I-91. 10 minutes from Exits 2 and 3 as well, if coming from the north on I-91. Drive to hikes, lakes, skiing, and charming towns in Vermont and New Hampshire. There are kayaks to rent on the local rivers, and Spofford Lake is 20 minutes away with more water sports. There are covered bridges, cheese factories, cross country skiing, etc. in the area. We're also very close to Western Mass, (even have its mild weather), with lots to do nearby in Greenfield and Northampton, MA. Walk to town: Left out of driveway, left onto South Main St. Past lovely old cemetery. When you arrive at the much-improved five-way intersection nicknamed "Malfunction Junction," you're at the southern end of downtown. Closest nature walk in woods is in another cemetery: Left out of driveway. Cross South Main St. Turn right for 500 ft. Left down paved driveway to cemetery. You can walk around the perimeter on a shady dirt road. Walk 30 minutes (or drive one mile) to a 90-minute hike up Mount Wantastiquet for a great view of Brattleboro and landscape north, south, and west. From downtown Brattleboro (again, at Malfunction Junction), cross the Connecticut River via the green bridge to Chesterfield NH. Once you're all the way across (but before the traffic lights on the NH side) take your first left on a dirt road. Walk to trail head on right about 1/4 mile. Hike up! Downtown Brattleboro The Food Coop is the new building at the southern end of downtown. It's like a small Whole Foods, with a cafe, buffet, deli, coffee, etc. A bit expensive, but good.

From May through Thanksgiving, you can bike or drive five minutes to the farmstands and international food stalls at the Farmers Market on Rte 9, and just a little longer in any direction to the many local farmstands offering their fresh veggies and fruit! In the winter, the Farmers Market moves indoors at the River Garden in the middle of downtown. We are also within a five minute walk or drive from SIT and the School for World Training, Marlboro College downtown campus, the New England Center for the Circus Arts, Brattleboro campus of CCV - Community College of Vermont, and the Union Institute and University. Getting AroundWe are about 7 blocks from the Brattleboro Train Station; much of it is uphill, but if you like, you can walk here from there. There is also the Brattleboro Taxi service, and I've seen Uber moustaches a few times. Enterprise is about ten minutes away, and will pick you up with your rental car. Other Things to NoteThere is a parking space for one car. Due to limited space on premises, we have to charge a fee for a second car, or you can park it in the parking garage two blocks away.

Please contact host for more information about this option. The SpaceThe apartment is the finished second floor of what was formerly a large garage/carriage house. It is the only unit in the building and there is a nice little porch off of the entrance. The upstairs is very lovely, tidy, tastefully decorated. I have a guitar which you can play, an extensive library of field guides, extra binoculars, a black-and-white printer, and assorted kitchen supplies and equipment, which I'm willing to share. I don't drink coffee, but I have a french press and some ground coffee beans available just for you! The bottom floor is an unfinished basement full of lots of stuff. It is a mess and definitely not water or animal-proof, but there is space to store things like bikes, tools, etc. Guest AccessPrivate room is good-sized with a skylight and lovely view out into the woods. Shared modest bathroom, kitchen, and living area are available for your use as well. Interaction with GuestsI am a busy 5th grade teacher. I am happy to welcome and orient guests and share a small amount of friendly conversation, but mostly I am busy and the space is quiet. I'm really busy with being a new teacher, so lots of quiet, especially in the evenings, is important on weeknights. On weekday mornings I am up around 5:00, moving around the kitchen and out the door by 6:45 and it's ideal to mostly have the kitchen to myself at that time. Weekends are a bit more relaxed, and depending on my schedule, I may or may not have time to get to know you a little and/or cook for you. This place is ideally suited for one person or for a quiet, easy-going couple. This place is more of a refuge than a party/social space, but it is, I think, a very peaceful, nourishing & warm space. The NeighborhoodLovely quiet neighborhood off of Western Ave. Easy access to many hiking trails on all sides of the neighborhood. Getting AroundIt takes about 15-20 minutes to walk into town from the apartment. It is downhill to town, uphill to get home. There is a bus, the MOOver, which can be accessed from Western Avenue if you're up for a logistical challenge. There are lots of wonderful restaurants in town and fun things to do in the area and I'm happy to make recommendations. I have made a sheet of recommendations and other information that is on the desk in the guest room.

The SpaceGreat location to explore Southern Vermont. Thirty-five minutes from Mount Snow and a few more minutes to Stratton Mountain. Lots of cross country skiing areas near our house as well. Hiking, great biking and lots of dirt roads five minutes from the house to explore. Blue berry and strawberry picking. Farmer's market in walking distance from the house during the warmer months, and a farmer's market in Brattleboro (10 minutes driving). Brattleboro is fun and besides a monthly gallery walk (first Friday of each month), the wonderful movies at Latches, there are fantastic restaurants and the artisans in this area have their works displayed in stores on main street in town. Guest AccessYou have access to the entire house (except the attic). Interaction with GuestsI will give you details as to how to best contact me once you book. We are easy to reach. The NeighborhoodGreat neighbors. The sheriff lives a few houses away so the house is really secure! If you are Jewish, the Chabad Rabbi (Rabbi Raskin) lives two houses away and you can attend shabbat dinner with him and his family (even if you are not Jewish, speak to him and tell him you are staying at my place and I am sure he'd be thrilled to have you over for a meal). Getting AroundI assume you will have a car, but there is a bus that takes you into town as well. Go right at the 7-Eleven and the stop is about three minutes walking from there. Other Things to NoteFeel free to pick my brain about things to do in the area. I love living in Brattleboro and the easy access to the outdoors.
