Camp Biscay is located next to the lake, with a nice level yard to the lake. You can enjoy sunsets from the deck, or picnics next to the water on the 12-foot picnic table. You'll find a gas BBQ grill and fire pit for your enjoyment. Also, a spacious dock is ideal for diving off the end, boating (bring your own, or use one of ours), swimming or sunning. Biscay Pond is actually a 3 mile long, very clean, 60 foot deep lake. It has water access to several lakes and rivers for canoe and kayakers. Biscay offers a healthy supply of brown trout and small mouth bass for the fisherman. The lake is quiet with only an occasional jetski, and being one of 3 camps on the road, it is a quiet location. We love Biscay for several reasons. One, it is a small, but deep lake, said to be the cleanest in the Pemaquid River chain. Small means not so many transient boaters. The put-in as at the beach at the head of the lake, and it is far from ideal. So most boaters head for the bigger lakes. Although Biscay is small, it is 3 miles long and you can access other places by boat. You can follow the River up to Pemaquid Lake, or down the River to the ocean! Our camp is small and rustic, but comfortable and easy. The water is lake water, and the shower small. Bedrooms are 'just big enough', with a built-in daybed tucked aside in the livingroom with privacy curtains. You'll find two comfy recliners and a futon that can fold down. The kitchen is roomy enough with a table that seats 4-6. The woodstove is actually gas fired with a thermostat - which you probably won't need in the summer. The cottage is fully insulated with ceiling fans to cool down the hot summer days. The Lake is super easy to access, and the place is made for making memories. No big steeps hills to access the lake. No big sprawling rooms to pick up after. No big screen TV to soak up family time. Yes we do have wi-fi. Area attractions include: Within 10-15 minutes, the quaint fishing villages of Round Pond and New Harbor; Pemaquid Point's lighthouse, museum, fort, beach, and ferry to Monhegan and whale/puffin watches; Damariscotta's restaurants, pubs, and shopping. The nightlife and shopping of Boothbay is about an half hour away. The outlet stores of Freeport or shopping in Rockland is 45 minutes away. Camden and Portland are an hour. Pets are a 'maybe'; and will incur a $50 per pet fee for approved pets. Close to Damariscotta, Round Pond, and Pemaquid. Totally quiet and peaceful.

Oar Island is one of the thousands of islands, large and small, that fill the rugged ocean coast of Maine. Formed and folded by continental collision, metamorphosis, and glacial scouring, the Maine coast is now a wonderful labyrinth of inlets, bays, islands, rivers, hills, and even fjords, mostly densely wooded with forests of spruce, pine, oak, maple, and birch. No wonder the Maine coast has been a prime vacation attraction for 150 years, favorite destination for Rockefellers, Cabots, Lodges, Bushes, and many others. One of the most picturesque islands in Muscongus Bay, Oar Island can be found midway along Maine’s coast, about 1 ¼ hour drive east of Portland. It covers about 42 acres. On the entire island there only 2 houses – rentable by the week either together or separately. It is completely wooded, though with fine views of Muscongus Bay and its many other islands to the south, or of the Camden Hills many miles to the northeast. It has about a mile of ocean frontage, most of it deep water even at low tide, an all-tides boat landing, trails, coves, wildlife, free seafood to gather, and above all complete privacy. When you occupy Oar Island, you have an entire domain to yourself. Nobody can disturb you. You have crossed the moat and pulled up the drawbridge behind you. Although relatively small, Oar Island was once owned by the famous Samoset, one of the two Indians who welcomed the Pilgrims -- in English! -- at their Plymouth settlement in March, 1621. In 1625 Samoset sold the Pemaquid peninsula, including Oar Island, to an English settler named John Brown. Over the years Oar Island has seen several interesting milestones. During the Revolution a gang of self-described pirates, led by a Nathanial Palmer, camped on the Muscongus Bay islands while preying on local shipping. "Commodore" Samuel Tucker, who captured more British ships than any other American privateer, later settled next door to Oar Island. In the nineteenth century Oar Island was owned for many years by the family of the uniquely-named Capt. Abdon Keene, Samuel Tucker's neighbors. In 1907 the island just to the south, Hog Island, was bought by Mabel Loomis Todd, the first publisher of the collected poems of Emily Dickinson and the adulterous lover of Emily’s brother, Austin. It is now the Audubon Society's Todd Wildlife Sanctuary. In the same year Oar Island was bought by a New Yorker, Van Buren Hagerman, the first to live there full time, who continued to own it until 1948. The present red Cottage was built by Van Buren Hagerman. And in the 1970's more modern pirates, Colombian drug smugglers, were arrested coming ashore at the local lobster pound. Outboard skiff is available for $350 per week, one-person kayak for $150 per week. Security deposit of $500 for the house, $200 for the boat. Security deposit is fully refunded if there is no damage or loss after your departure.

The SpaceForget the commercialism and congestion of the Cape, Martha's Vineyard or even Southern Maine. This beautiful and unique property is located right in the center of the Maine Coast, situated perfectly between Portland (approximately an hour to the South) and Bar Harbor (Acadia National Park) to the north. The property sits atop 2.5 expansive and private acres of land on a hill sloping down to the Atlantic Ocean, and consists of a lovely classic Maine cape home (built in 1998), a detached 'Boat House' for additional sleeping and recreation, and a 40 foot commercial grade pier and dock. The main house has a crisp, bright, open post and beam layout, with a modern island kitchen, 3 upstairs bedrooms (sleeping 6) and a spacious wrap-around deck overlooking the water. There are 1.5 baths in the main house and 1 bath in the Boat House. The Boat House is an extraordinary structure, originally designed to build and store large vessels, in which a large, spacious section has been newly renovated. The Boat House has vaulted high ceilings, granite stone tile flooring, and sleeps 4 comfortably. The Boat House is ideal for the kids or extended family. It includes a pool table, air hockey, fooseball, and a 42' flat screen HDTV. The property comes equipped with three boats (a single kayak, a three person canoe-kayak hybrid and a two person ocean kayak), along with life jackets and paddles ready for your families' enjoyment. The kayaking routes immediately off the dock are literally some of the best in the world, and you can explore dozens of pristine islands right from off of the dock. You can also eat fresh lobster caught and cooked daily at a neighborhood lobster cooperative about a two hundred yard walk down the hill from the house. Or, just ask Shamus (the neighborhood lobstering wonder-boy) to deliver some fresh off of his boat to the door. After dinner, enjoy the firepit in the yard for roasting marshmellows and sitting around the fire. Damariscotta, with its famous harbor, restaurants and a Hannaford's shopping center, is only 10-15 minutes from the house. Pemaquid Point Beach, one of Maine's most gorgeous sandy beaches and home to the most photographed lighthouse in the world, Pemaquid Point Light, is about 20-25 minutes from the house. The ferry to spectacular Monhegan Island leaves daily from New Harbor, about 20 minutes from the house, and the popular towns of Camden and Boothbay Harbor are each about 20-30 miles away. Everything you need for your stay is provided, including a fully equipped kitchen, linens, wireless internet, outdoor furniture and grill, DVD player, Direct TV, a BOSE iPhone/iPod docking stereo station, and two smart 42-inch LCD HD TVs with Netflix built in for watching movies.

The SpaceThis private room is set on the first floor of a traditional Maine farmhouse with many ammenities and modern updates. The house and the small bedroom are clean, quiet, and have been decorated with the quirky and unique style of an artist and collector, while still celebrating the aspects of what makes an old classic so cozy and special. During your stay, you'll enjoy the rolling fields and tree lined views, the private seating areas, and the peace of mind you'll reclaim. The air here smells of sweet wildflowers and salt air and the vibe is relaxed! If you venture to the heart of Round Pond village which is just a minutes walk, you'll pass the public tennis court, (within sight of the house and I provide tennis rackets and balls for your use) charming shops and ice cream parlor, and popular harbor-side restaurant...all ending at one of Maine's most picturesque working waterfronts, complete with boats, sunsets, and charm galore. Of course, the Maine lobster dinner at the nearby docks is the best! Feel free to help yourself to some treats in the morning from the kitchen including coffee or tea, muffins, granola, yogurt, and fresh fruit. The bathroom is clean, shared and fresh towels are provided. There is plenty of parking onsite, as well as wireless internet, a friendly hostess, and a chance to focus on your creative tendencies, if you're so inclined. Guest AccessInternet, television, old movies, decks and lots of books, maps and literature about the area. The kitchen may be used for preparing coffe or tea in the morning and an occasional meal if you are long term. The nearby town of Damariscotta (18 min. away) has a nice laundromat and stores/shops offering most anything you might want. The town boasts a good library, hospital, services and great shopping. Interaction with GuestsAs much or as little as they would like. I am usually present upon arrival and for the "settling in" period, to answer any questions and show the guests around the house. I do go out to work on some days. I am happy to visit and chat or leave you alone, whichever you'd prefer. The NeighborhoodI love the fact that it feels like the "country". Wide open picturesque fields surround the house. Yet, just a few minutes walk takes you into the village and to the shore. Ours is a working harbor with probably one half the boats belonging to the lobster men and fishermen. The beautiful pleasure craft vary from large sailing vessels to colorful kayaks, all painting a fabulous picture for our viewing delight. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation to my listing. Guests must have their own vehicle or bike. I would come to the nearest town nine miles away to collect you if you come in via bus or train if you are staying more than a day or so. Parking is included with my listing. I provide specific directions to the house upon request and closer to arrival time. Other Things to NoteAm happy to chat via phone or email if any guest would like more detailed information or to know me better.

The SpaceThe Apartment is part of an architect designed New England Style House, built in 2007. Separated by an atrium room from the main house, the 2 bedrooms, eat in kitchen and bathroom with shower as well as a deep tub offer you complete privacy. Access is through a common front door and then separate entrance from the atrium room. The water source for the house is well water. Approximately 90% of the rural population in Maine obtain their water from wells. Maine ground water has a high iron content which results in a slight tint. The house is located on an 8 acre lot with 300ft waterfront on Keene Narrows. From the shoreline you can see Medomak Lobster Company, Bremen Long Island and Oar Island. Guest AccessGuests have shared access to a garage parking space and patio with BBQ. Please note that cell phone reception is spotty in ME and also at the apartment. However, there is a landline phone in the apartment available for your use. The number is (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Interaction with GuestsWhat I provide to most guests at their request are maps, advice for day trips, advice on shopping and dining. I can also arrange for fresh lobster from the local co-op. Overseas visitors who do not speak English as native language can get assistance with bookings and other info. The NeighborhoodWhether you plan to visit for a weekend or longer, Bremen is the perfect base to explore Midcoast Maine. This is a very rural area though and the closest town is 11 miles. So if you want a more urban location, my place is not a good fit for you. Also, this area is a seafood area. If you are looking for vegan restaurants please do not book my place as there are hardly any vegan restaurants in my area. Located on the Pemaquid Peninsula, Bremen can be reached within 1.5 hours from Portland, Maine or within 3 hours from Boston, Massachusetts. Getting AroundYou will need a car to get here and also to explore the area. There is no public transit in this area. Also be aware that this is a very rural area and roads are bumpy due to our harsh winters. Blueberry Lane and the road leading to it (Keene Narrows Road) is a gravel road and not paved. Other Things to NoteAt the end of the Pemaquid peninsula is the famous Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Actually Windows 7 includes a photo of this lighthouse as one of the wall papers. In Rockland you can visit Farnsworth Museum that also have art by Andrew Wyeth. You can also visit the Wyeth home which was setting for his 'Christina's world' paintings. Damariscotta, the closest town, is very cute and also has food shopping, hardware store, book store and a number of really nice restaurants. If you want to visit Monhegan Island, you can get over there by taking Hardy Boats from New Harbor which is about 15 miles from the apartment. There is so much to do here...

We’re still trying to adjust to life in South Florida again, but we keep dreaming of Maine and all its wonders. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and had a terrific time at the lake. We swam, fished, canoed, and picked wild blueberries and raspberries down at the edge of the water. In the evenings we would sit by the fire, roast marshmallows and then step outside to watch the night sky filled with thousands of stars. Though we’ve stayed in other houses in Maine, your house is in a wonderful location and so comfortable. Our favorite activity is to pack a lunch and to go sit on the rock ledge by the lake where we picnic, swim, canoe, and fish. Afterwards we finish our day with a scoop of ice cream at Round Pond. We also explored the different peninsulas, ate lobster rolls (repeatedly), and enjoyed every second of the cool weather. Damariscotta is a lovely little town as are so many in the surrounding area. As owners we live on the property but this apartment has its own private entrance. This space has a bit of history as it was an actual jewelry workshop for 20 years where co-owner Ronna Lugosch created and sold her jewelry nationwide. Ronna and her husband Emile have now transformed it into a tasteful and comfortable apartment. Downstairs has a full kitchen, bathroom with shower, living room and dining room. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with two single beds and a master bedroom with a queen size bed. There is also an open space between the bedrooms that has a full size futon. No need to bring anything except your clothing. We have stocked the apartment with just about everything for the perfect Maine vacation with the exception of food. There is a gas grill for barbecuing and beach chairs for a day at any of our lovely beaches. Yes there is wifi! We are only 1.5 miles from Round Pond Harbor which is a popular destination in the MidCoast because of its picturesque beauty, fresh lobsters and other seafood available in the 2 outdoor lobster pounds as well as the renown Anchor Restaurant. Also in the Village you can step back in time when you visit the historic Granite Hall store complete with penny candy and memorabilia of Maine. Just over the hill, a 5 minute walk, is the Muscongus Cove where you can rent sea kayaks and purchase lobsters to cook right in the apartment. Bristol is located on the Pemaquid Peninsula known for its rocky coastline and Pemaquid Lighthouse. If you enjoy tennis there is a free public court down the road in the village center. There are also several scenic hiking trails nearby. An 8 minute drive will bring you to either of 2 freshwater swimming areas. While away your vacation in Maine on a private island located on Pemaquid Lake in Bremen, Maine on the beautiful and historic Pemaquid Peninsula. The island has a 24’x32’ log cabin that offers comfortable sleeping for 6. While relaxing or dining on the screened in porch, you can look west towards sunsets or 2 miles north towards a broad bay dotted with tree covered islands. Our private cove and float are located on the northern side of the island bordered on the other side of the cove with another island. There is a marsh on the southern side of the island. As you drink in the natural beauty surrounding the island, you may spot a loon, Great Blue Heron, osprey, or Bald Eagle. We recently received a Lakesmart Award for our care of the island. Getting to this island getaway couldn’t be easier. Park your vehicle at our landing where a sturdy row boat awaits. A few minutes row and you are there. Be sure to bring appropriate water footwear. The cabin has a beautiful fieldstone fireplace which is perfect for taking the chill out of a cool evening or for creating a beautiful ambience in the living room with its cathedral ceiling and exposed beams. The bathroom has a comfortable shower and there is always plenty of hot water. Please note that the cabin has no cable or WiFi. There is, however, a small TV that receives 3 channels. The kitchen has a wide kitchen counter with bar stools, a 4 burner electric stove, a good sized refrigerator, as well as a microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven, cookware, plates, cups, glasses, and silverware. There are two bedrooms off the kitchen each with two twin beds. Upstairs in the loft there is a four poster queen sized bed; this loft is reached via a stairway. There are three kayaks and life jackets available for your use. It is especially rewarding to enjoy the lake in the early morning hours and should not be missed. Pets are welcome; all we ask is that you pick up after them. The island is a 10-15 minute drive from Damariscotta which is a National Historic site, also, filled with specialty shops and restaurants. This small town is located 75 minutes from Portland, Maine, 30-40 minutes from Boothbay Harbor, and 45 minutes from Camden. It is a 10-15 minute drive to Round Pond village where you can enjoy eating lobster, clams, mussels, and corn at a picnic table on a wharf and seeing working and pleasure boats in the harbor. If you wish, you can BYOB as well as other beverages. You need to bring your own sheets and towels. We have plenty of pillows, but you may want to bring your own. We, also, have plenty of blankets for cool Maine nights. While the lake water is fine for washing and showering, you should bring over drinking water. Please leave the cabin as you found it. Be sure to clean out the refrigerator before you depart.

Forget the commercialism and congestion of the Cape, Martha's Vineyard or even Southern Maine. Wanna get away? This Maine island cabin is the ultimate escape from “the real world.” Nestled amid hay-scented ferns and white birch trees, in full view of a sandy beach and the pristine Muscongus Sound, our rustic retreat will transport you back to a simpler time—without clutter, stress, and in harmony with nature—but with a soft bed and a well-stocked kitchen. PBS’ Frontier Living show has nothing on this authentic island experience. Built in 2003 in the tradition of a Maine boathouse, the cabin’s double doors open to the southern sun for a refreshing connection to the surrounding woods and salt air. Its spacious deck and Adirondack chairs, plus nearby hammock, offer the perfect reading, sunbathing or stargazing spot with a 180 degree view of the beach. The boathouse is located 100-feet above low-water and enjoys 400 ft. of private shoreline frontage. Sandy in places and pebbly in others, the beach provides ample treasures for discovery and is a perfect starting point for your Muscongus Sound boating adventure. Berry baskets and a clam rake are provided for the hunter/gathers. Wooded trails lead from the cabin to the island’s historic church, cemetery and farmhouses. Simple living does have a few complications, as there is no electricity, no running water and no refrigerator at this time. Drinking water is carried to the premises in gallon containers. Wash water is collected from the rain barrel or fetched from the nearby spring. Ice is available from the owner and from the mainland. Liquid paraffin lamps as well as a gas cylinder lamp, light the living space. A waist-high two-burner propane stove serves as a effecient cooking facility. The boathouse is easily accessible from scenic Round Pond Harbor, directly across the Sound from the boathouse, and is only 15 minutes away by kayak. Round Pond Village offers fine dining, fresh dockside lobster dinners, a small sandwich counter and general store, antiques and collectibles, and an old time gift shop and ice cream scoop. The boathouse is also a short water taxi ride from Muscongus Harbor, the put-in spot for area sea kayak tours. Transportation arrangements should be coordinated with the owners. The Webster Cottage on Quarry Hill has been a beloved destination for 3 generations. Its peaceful, private setting at the end of a small road, coupled with a spectacular view of Muscongus Sound make it a wonderful place to relax and enjoy life. Its spacious kitchen and living room provide a cosy and comfortable gathering place for family and friends. There are books, games, puzzles, and cards aplenty, as well as kitchen supplies to accommodate large parties and dinners. The cottage's most delightful feature is its granite terrace which looks out over the Sound. Many people have spent their entire stay sitting on deck chairs, watching the lobstermen and the sailboats go by. The house sits on a very large piece of land stretching down to the water's edge and about 500 feet across. Plenty of areas to explore, the occasional rabbit or deer sighting, and tide pools and rock clambering down by the water. At the front of the house is a lawn where kids can play - there's room for a small croquet game, badminton or sprinkler. The cottage is within walking distance of 'downtown' Round Pond, where one can shop at the quaint Granite Hall store, eat at the Anchor Inn, or order a few lobsters from the two lobster companies in the harbor, sit out on the pier and enjoy the view. As soon as you pull up by the house, see the view and smell the air, you know you are in a good place. Keywords: house, cottage, cabin
