Life on the river is pretty sweet. Our 3 bedroom / 2 bath home literally floats on the water so we get visits from local ducks, geese, herons, beavers and more every day. We also have two resident kitties and a mellow dog to offer a friendly paw. (Cat friendly dogs are absolutely welcome to stay with you here!) We have a roomy kitchen and an open dining and living room area with lovely big south facing windows to sit near while watching the river roll by. We've got two couches to lounge on. There's also a good size back deck to hang out on and even work a little magic on the bbq, or perhaps to do yoga on in the morning. ;) Please also feel free to use the hammock. Our house is definitely homey! You'll never feel like this is a sterile hotel, but we also keep it tidy and clean. In the living room we have a big HDTV. We don't use it all that much but it's connected to a DVD player and a Roku box with Netflix and Pandora at the touch of a button. You are free to stay either in the master bedroom (where you'd have a bathroom in the bedroom with you), or upstairs in the bedroom with the view of the river. When we don't have guests we use the master bedroom it as a den. If there's more space needed for additional guests or perhaps your children, we have a small bedroom available too. Both are on the main floor of the house near the kitchen and open living room area. There's plenty of room for your luggage in the walk in closet of the master bedroom so your room doesn't need to be cluttered with your clothes during your stay. The smaller room also has a lot of shelf space for your things. In addition, we have a lovely bathtub with spa jets in the main bathroom and a three headed shower in the master suite's private bath. The house is off Hayden Island in N. Portland and is a couple minutes from I-5. It's about a fifteen minute drive from the airport. There's also a grocery store less than two minutes by car and a ten minute walk from the house. Also on the island are a a few local cafes within walking distance and the Jantzen Beach mall should you care to go shopping. There's also a scenic walking trail just across from the community gate that winds around Hayden Bay and up the Vancouver facing side of the Island. On the island itself there's a bus transit center and just over the bridge is the last stop of the Yellow Line for the MAX light rail that will take you right into downtown Portland or connect you to the rest of the city. Hardcore cyclists would find this an easy place bike to. The MAX is a five minute ride on a road bike and a 20 minute ride on a one speed Schwinn. ;) **Are you happy to feed our cats while we're gone? We keep the overall daily rent for a house of this size on the river low for this reason. They're very low maintenance animals. One is quite cuddly (although can easily be persuaded to leave you alone with a quick blow of air to the face -- a gentle way we've trained him to go away). The other kitty is very sweet and mostly will just be on his own. If this is one step too many, this may not be the right space for you to rent out. Check out our guidebook to see a few local restaurants, grocery stores, and more. There's a kayak and paddle board rental store that's within walking distance from our house. Only $20 for a couple hours!
