The NeighborhoodWe are in an exciting overlap of regions in a gorgeous and still relatively undiscovered part of Ontario, Canada along the great lakes. We're at the intersection of Northumberland County, Prince Edward County, Cramahe Township, The Apple Route, Villages of Brighton and Colborne, and the Bay of Quinte. That's a lot! The region is known for apples, art, festivals and bird watching. The views of Lake Ontario are unmatched anywhere. We're on a hill so you can see for miles. The curvature of the Earth is visible over the lake. Sky watching is spectacular as well. Milky Way, planets and our Moon are very cool to watch. For winter time, cross-country skiing and hiking is not too far. Search the web for scenic trails in Northumberland, Quinte and PrinceEdward Island regions, or go to Presquile Park and ski on the beach! The village of Brighton with nice grocery stores and shops is 5 miles to the east on Highway 2. The village of Colborne with its many festivals and small shops is 4 miles to our west on Highway 2. Interaction with GuestsAlways available via email or phone. As this is a hot spot for tourism and a growing wine region we are happy to provide our guests with recommendations for local activities and shops. The NeighborhoodWellers Bay lets out into Lake Ontario but is shallow, warmer and much calmer waters. We are right in the middle of wine country with 22 wineries within a 35mins drive; 34 wineries in all. Locally in Consecon, only 5 min away, we have a LCBO, Beer Store, convenience store and a local pub called “Cascades”. It’s located in the oldest Mill in the County, over 200 years old! A great spot to sit, grab a pint and watch local wildlife over the water dam or catch some local music Friday nights. There are a few local artists and a diner that serves great food at affordable pricing and serves local Kawartha Ice cream; a fun place to take the family. In the late spring to late Fall you can get farm fresh vegetables out front of the diner. For more local produce take high way 33 further into the county and there is a great bakery and green market called “Lakeshore”. Can't miss it, great people, 25min drive. Just a bit further into Wellington there’s lots to do. For brunch/lunch visit Poppies Bike rentals are a bit further up in Bloomfield and more great shops. Many love to wine tour, things are quite close around here. Approx. 10k from Wellington. One winery I highly recommend is Norman Hardy; best stone oven pizza EVER! I recommend you try them all but the Fungi is my favorite and I hate mushrooms! It gets very busy so go before 1pm or there may be quite a wait. Besides who doesn't like a pizza brunch! Hours are between 11-6 (closed Tuesday’s) it's just past Hilliar, approx. 15min from the house. Getting AroundThere are Local bus and driver rentals if you wish to do a wine tour or there are bike rentals for tours and general exploring. In general the county is very easy and quick to get around. If you wish to check out “The Barn” a local hot spot for music think of it like our version of the “Kee to Bala” - there are shuttles that take you for free regularly from Wellington. Cabs are often flat rate and not too expensive. Other Things to NoteWellers Bay is a hot spot for the hobbies and pro Fishermen alike. Fishermen will find a variety of fish including pumpkinseed sunfish, rainbow trout, walleye, bream, bluegill, pan fish, largemouth bass, Chinook salmon, perch, smallmouth bass and northern pike here.
