The SpaceSanctuary, our home, is filled with light and plants and art. There are views of nature out of all of the many large windows. The hand-painted walls give a feeling of warmth and coziness to the spacious rooms with slanting high ceilings. Our lovely guest room is off of the living room and not near other bedrooms. It has a large window onto the garden, as well as sliding glass doors that open onto your private deck overlooking our small garden pond. There is a half-bath in the guest room, and the full bath with a great shower and large oval bathtub is next door to your room. A small refrigerator is in the guest room for your use. You are welcome to relax in our living room. Guests particularly like to read or do yoga on the raised platform at the far end of the living room. We provide organic coffee and tea along with a light breakfast for our guests, such as fruit, yogurt and granola. Sanctuary is situated in the forest just above the tiny village of Westminster West. The villages of Putney and Saxtons River are 7 and 5 miles away, and provide interesting restaurants, pubs, a food coop, a village market and general store, terrific live music of all kinds. The Saxtons River Fourth of July parade is legendary as the best small-town parade ever! We are ten minutes from the Putney School, the Greenwood School, Vermont Academy and Landmark College. Putney has a farmers' market on Sunday. This is the best of Vermont! Oh, and we are just 25 minutes from Brattleboro, a vibrant, eclectic, art-filled town of 13,000. The gardens at Sanctuary are really amazing. It is an oasis of flowers and veggies in the middle of a tall deciduous forest. Fairies live here, or so say our young friends who sometimes build fairy houses. Lots of frogs, toads, and birds for sure. Quiet, beautiful, restful, heartful. Guest AccessOur handbuilt stream, waterfall and garden pond are right outside of the guestroom. So peaceful, such a wonderful sound of the stream! You are welcome to enjoy our gardens. Interaction with GuestsWe enjoy getting to know our guests. We sometimes have breakfast with them in our sunroom or in the garden. The NeighborhoodIdyllic Vermont countryside and small villages. We can direct you to great nearby hiking trails: The Pinnacle, Putney Mountain and Black Mountain are all within a few minutes. There are 5 farmers' markets within 30 minutes of us. Good antiquing in nearby Chester or Bellows Falls. Many great performances as nearby as Putney (Yellow Barn, Sandglass Theatre, Next Stage) and too many to count in Brattleboro! Getting AroundYou will need a car. Other Things to NoteGreat hiking trails nearby.

The SpaceWith views of lovely spring-fed pond, this 400 sqft space is perfect for travelers that do not want any forced interactions or intrusions. We're located less than 3 miles to the Putney School, Green Mountain Orchard, downtown Putney and Landmark College, and it takes approximately 50 minutes to drive to Stratton, Mount Snow, Bromley; and, 70 minutes to Okemo. Guests can choose to enjoy the natural environment at our homestead, mingling with other guests or family as it unfolds, or trek out in the 400 acres of wild land that we border. The choice is yours; the space encourages freedom and authentic relating. Guest AccessThe studio space has it's own private bathroom with a luxurious bathtub and shower, and a private kitchen with refrigerator, gas range and space to store items for eating-in. Guests can make their way throughout the shared yard. Please do not enter the front door of the building as that opens into our tenant's space. You may enter the studio apartment from the sliding glass doors on the pond side of the yard, or via the garage doors. Interaction with GuestsOur two children each have their own relationship to playing outside and may not be as sensitive to a desire for privacy in our yard as Mark and I will be. If you want privacy in the outdoors-- rather than in your studio-- the mountain is covered with a trail system where you can find yourself *mostly* alone. Our intention isn't to create a highly interactive space with guests, but a private retreat-like one. Folks who may be coming specifically for astrology readings, ceremonies or personal sessions will be encouraged to fill up on the natural world before and after sessions. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is filled with people that are living their dreams, raising families, food and serving the world via their gifts. The energy here at the base of the mountain is notable for it's serenity. Our home is less than 100 yards from the studio and there is a one bedroom apartment inhabited by a student above it. Getting AroundThe roads are normally in good shape with some exceptions a few times a year during mud season and severe winter storms. There is no public transportation. 4-wheel drive is not necessary. For those that bike and run, there are plenty of awesome trails all through these forests so you can get off the road and into the wild by foot, skis or bike. Other Things to NoteI do not prepare a hot breakfast each morning but there is a coffee maker, and coffee available for you to prepare as you wish. You can also find wild medicinal herbs from the land for making tea.

The SpaceThe house is isolated at the top of a mountain on a dirt road. All-wheel drive is a good option. If weather is fair, regular drive is fine. The driveway is plowed if there is 4 inches of snow. The town is responsible for the road up the hill. Our plower does the driveway. Guest AccessDuring hunting season remember to dress appropriately. The NeighborhoodThe house is on about 30 acres of land. The closest help is 2 1/2 miles away on Rt. 30. There is an excellent market there which also sells gas, Riverbend Market. Other Things to NoteWe welcome you to try the woodstoves if you are comfortable to use them. Please follow our directions for use. The cookstove in the living room only has one place to start the fire, on the left side under the round burners. The space beneath the grates there are for the ashes to drop and for air to help with the draft to keep the flames of the fires burning. Once the fire is started, air should be reduced to this area.

The SpaceLarge bedroom with a Queen size bed, table and chair. Cozy flannel sheets and down comforter. We can accommodate an extra person on an air mattress for a small additional fee. There is a newly renovated bathroom with a tiled shower and plenty of hot water. It is Sunny in the afternoons and you can hear the crickets, frogs and birds in the early mornings. Guest AccessYou will have the run of the house including a well appointed kitchen, large mud room with a washer/dryer and access to the outdoor hot tub. You can sit by the wood stove and enjoy a nice cup of tea or coffee. We do not have TV here but we can stream movies or if you want to go old school there are red box video machines to rent DVD's. There is high speed cable internet and WiFi. I suggest you bring a pair of house slippers since shoes are kept in the mudroom. Interaction with GuestsI will be around most of the time and can answer questions about local events, recreation and amenities. There is a fully equipped ski shop for waxing skis and for a small fee( maybe just shoveling the walk!) I can show you how or do it for you. In addition, there is a bike shop with all the tools to keep you bicycles or motorcycles riding smooth. The NeighborhoodThe village of Westminter West is a tiny hamlet of 14 houses, a Church and a library. All the neighbors are friendly and they often come over for pot lucks or bon fires. We are 6 miles to Putney and 5 miles to Saxtons River where you will find excellent dining and shopping for Vermont made products. There is a thriving art and music scene here too. Putney has world class classical music at the Yellow Barn music hall and theater/live music at Next Stage hall. In Saxtons there is an arts and crafts center which hosts a variety of arts. The General Store in either Saxtons River or Putney provides a variety of grocery goods as does the Putney Co-op. Getting AroundWinter travel here can be a challenge. An all wheel or 4 wheel drive vehicle is recommended. We are on a paved road and the plows will usually be by early in the morning. Other Things to NoteFor the winter there are groomed cross country ski trails right out the back door. These are private trails so you will only meet some of the local skiers out there. I can also direct you to other local skiing gems. If you are a telemark or alpine skier I have a wealth of knowledge about resorts, back country and secret stashes. Finally, there is a growing fat tire winter biking scene here and I can point you in the right direction to meet up with those hardy souls.
