The SpaceWe offer a real country experience while staying in close proximity to the city. We can sleep up to 12-14 people and love to host parties and events.
Three new calves and a colt have been added to the family and bring a new level of excitement to life out at the ranch! The colt is as friendly as puppy and calves gets into all kinds of shenanigans exploring the property!
During the summer our back pasture close to the house is notorious for transforming into a mini soccer, baseball, kickball, and football field. With the pool right over the levee it is a summer dream for kids of all ages!
We are just far enough from Houston to be able to experience the beautiful night sky in quiet, clean air. With plenty of seating and an outdoor table by the pool, late night summer star gazing is a crowd favorite at the Comer Ranch. We also have a porch swing, a chair type tree swing, rocking chairs and picnic table. Fireworks and bonfires are allowed provided there has been recent rain fall. For guests with a green thumb that's been neglected in the city, we have numerous large garden boxes growing an assortment of veggies! Bird watching is another favorite here as we have a large assortment of species. Waking to the sound of birds chirping and roosters crowing is loved by all. We are just a few miles off I-10 at the end of a short dirt road. You will need boots of some sort if you want to explore beyond the pool and yards. Some guests never leave the sofa which is alright with us too. The views are fabulous from all the rooms, most of which have french doors that open to porches or balconies. Guest AccessOur guests will have access to Wifi, TV, washer and dryer, pool, workout equipment, full kitchen, refrigerator, pantry, fresh linens, towels, and toiletries. Farm fresh eggs, coffee and pancake fixings are available every morning, but guests are on their own to make what they want.
We have a host of board games (Settlers of Catan in particular) cards are available to our guests who want to escape the mid day heat or play a round after supper. Our large dining room and table has been converted to a meeting space for groups and we keep a dry erase board in a nearby closet for their use. The long table is also perfect for quilting or other craft projects that can be left out the duration of your stay as there is enough seating in the kitchen area for your meals.
An outdoor BBQ pit and smoker are available and plenty of free pecan wood to cook with for guests with the desire to fire up some meat! (or veggies). Guests are also welcome to whatever is in season in the gardens or ripe in the trees. This varies greatly and cannot be guaranteed.
Our cable and internet service are provided by Dish. It includes the HBO channels and we do have wifi here, but this is the country and internet options are limited. The time of day, the weather and the number of people on line can effect the speed. Additional increments of data can be purchased with a phone call. Most of the time it is fine. Cell phone signals are also variable. Some providers seem to have a stronger signal than others, sometimes cell phones work in the house and sometimes they don't. They all work outside and on the balconies. Texting is never a problem. Interaction with GuestsWe love meeting new people and are very personable. The NeighborhoodClear skies, kind neighbors, and beautiful fields, abundant pecan trees, unusual birds, creeks and ponds, wide open spaces and lots of peace and quiet. We are in an unincorporated part of Brookshire Texas. Our property is located on a salt dome and we produce oil. The wells here are small and shallow. The field is nearing extinction as it was discovered many years ago. We also have a small cattle operation with a focus on producing heritage breed cows that thrive on forage and pasture grasses. We also have some plain, mixed breed cows that we love just as much, especially the one that jumps the fence every evening to say hello to the guests!
Most of my neighbors do pretty much the same. The town of Brookshire is charming and the people friendly. It has the best hardware store, some great food and a true small town feel. This is really country living while not being too far from a city. Getting AroundDirections are provided with your reservation and your own vehicle is best. The Houston Executive airport and the Mega bus are both about 20 minutes from the ranch. Pickup could be arranged if needed. We use a truck, the tractor, the riding lawn mower and usually our two feet to get around on the ranch. You can take a horse if you can saddle it and ride it yourself. We have several saddles and several horses, a round pen you can use, grooming supplies and horse treats.
After prolonged or heavy rains the road in can become quite bumpy. This does get smoothed out as soon after the rain stops as possible. Driving in slowly is recommended, especially with a small vehicle or sports car. There is plenty of parking at the house, paved concrete, gravel and grass. It is lighted at night and garage space is available if needed. We keep the driveway near the kitchen door clear for guests arriving, departing or unloading groceries. This area is also under a pecan tree notorious for dropping limbs during storms or high winds.
The ranch is 20 minutes to a Wal-Mart and HEB in Katy TX at the Pin Oak Road exit and 20 minutes to a Wal-Mart in Sealy TX. There is a Brookshire Brothers grocery store on Hwy 90 about 10 minutes from the ranch. Other Things to NoteWe allow parties and pets only with prior discussion and additional charges depending on the number of people expected.
