Currently seeking rentals for winter, spring, summer 2017. Eastern bedroom with double bed; Western bedroom with queen bed; additional room has loft bed and double futon for the floor. Acadia is one hour's drive. Seals, ducks, otters, warblers, thrushes, owls, foxes, snow shoe hares, hawks, crows, etc. Many other walking trails and boat launching access in the area. Maine charges 9% lodging tax, which I collect directly from you. The house is well insulated with oil heat, and solar gain for winter living. This section of the Bagaduce stays open for wintering-over ducks, eagles and otter. Winter in Maine is beautiful. No public transport. You must have a car, but a huge 4wd SUV is not necessary. Interaction with GuestsWinter/Spring: I will be available for questions. A neighbor's phone number provided for help. Summer: Same as above. A screened-in porch for outdoor dining and relaxation was completed June 1, 2015 and is a delight to relax in for many meals. New refridgerator and microwave. Four burner gas kitchen stove and oven. On- demand Bosch water heater for limitless hot water and a Rennai heater in a fully insulated SIPS panel built guest house to keep you warm on cool nights. Guest AccessYou will have access to the Bagaduce River, hammocks, a chimenea (clay fireplace) on the river to sit by on cool evenings. You're welcome to rent kayaks or canoes and bring them to the shore for your use. Water shoes are needed to protect your feet. Interaction with GuestsWe are delighted to steer you in directions you'd like to go be it short or long walks, nature hikes, places to bike, restaurants or bars to frequent. We are very happy to give you all the privacy you'd like and yet you're always welcome to knock on our door for any help you might need. We're here for you! The NeighborhoodLocated on the Blue Hill Peninsula, the Bagaduce River is a precious gem. It is the home to bald eagles, osprey, kingfishers, blue herons, horseshoe crabs, striped bass, alewives, otters, minks, and an occasional seal. It's a gorgeous spot for easy kayaking (bring water shoes) or just laying on a hammock by the shore with a good book. There are many lovely walks and bike rides nearby as well as throughout the Blue Hill Peninsula. We particularly love to walk a boreal fog forest at The Nature Conservancy’s Barred Island Trail on Deer Isle or climb Blue Hill Mountain to view the vistas of Blue Hill Bay and the mountains of Acadia National Park. We also love visiting the beautiful fishing village of Stonington to have a lobster at one of the several restaurants or to take a few home to steam while experiencing a Bagaduce sunset like never before. The Barnacle is a beautifully restored 1940s barn, transformed in to a seaside showplace. Resting only 35 feet from the harbor, it captures impressive views from throughout the interior of the home, as well as from the expansive deck running along the entire waterside of the home. A wide array of seafaring vessels makes use of this protected harbor, offering a tranquil yet ever changing view. The home has been restored top to bottom. The interior is bright, comfortable and decorated in nautical style with a splash of antiques and family heirlooms. Cathedral ceilings give a spacious feel, as does the open floor plan for living room, dining area, library and kitchen. The kitchen is fully stocked and ready to host a lobster bake for 30 on the beach or a quaint cocktail party on the deck. There are huge windows displaying the beauty of the harbor, along with pine floors, Kraft-maid cabinets and all major appliances (except no dishwasher). A beautiful gas fireplace was added in 2006. The laundry room is also on the main level. Four delightful bedrooms are upstairs. Each room has a different size bed: a king, a queen, a double and a twin. It can sleep 7 upstairs and one of the downstairs couches pulls out to a double. Back outside, there is a staircase that leads down to a private beach, and personal mooring for those bringing or renting a boat. Nestled at the center of Bucks Harbor, its private situation belies the fact that it is just down the street from the Bucks Harbor Market & Marina, which offers organic veggies from the local growers, a huge variety of wines & cheeses, a pizza parlor, ice cream and a wonderful restaurant and marina area. There are weekly markets, too. Bucks Harbor Yacht Club is also within walking distance, and offers movie nights, square dancing, Saturday teas after the races, ping pong, tether ball and tennis. This quiet and peaceful area offers a nice smattering of activities to keep things both relaxing and interesting. Additional amenities include: video game console, movie/video library, sofabed, coffee maker, pets considered, lobster pot, cd, video player, games - all ages, outdoor grill gas.
