The SpaceThis home is not your usual type place that a builder put together for profit. I began my trade as a carpenter and woodworker 43 years ago and have run my General contracting and remodeling company for almost as many years. It was with great pleasure that I started building this house for myself after many years of my main obligation being that of managing my company. This home to me was a way to express myself and put to task all the things and idea's that I had contemplated over the years Guest AccessWireless internet password is in the book. Kayak & canoes may be used only when wearing life jackets. The NeighborhoodThe best thing about this house is, that although it is not very far from all the amenities we are used to, it offers an atmosphere where you can get away from the stressful life most of us live. Many times we have come here with the intentions of doing something or going somewhere and have decided to just stay put and enjoy our home. It's a place where you can get lost in yourself, it is quiet, peaceful, rain or shine it always seems to be a place to go and reconnect with yourself and your family. Getting AroundSorry no public transportation but taxi's are available from Fryeburg and North Conway. Courtesy vehicle may be available for those who may fly into fryeburg airport (KIZG) from Brice and Christine.

It has two bedrooms, one with queen bed, the other with two twin beds as well as a fold-out couch that could sleep another two guests . During the summer and early fall guests can help themselves to produce -- corn, tomatoes, beans, cukes, etc --. from our organic garden. The Brownfield Bog Wildlife Preserve is just 10 minutes away and is a great place for canoeing and kayaking in a magical place surrounded by the White Mountains and filled with a vast array of wildlife including moose. We also seem to be located in an area that is prime owl habitat for we hear many different hoots through the year coming from the surrounding forests. If you like quiet rural settings with lots of opportunity for outdoor activities then this is a great place for your vacation or getaway. Excellent road and mountain biking; canoeing on the Saco river; kayaking in the Brownfield Bog Wildlife Reserve and hiking trails all around us. Guest AccessGuest have access to our entire property - 50 acres -- as well as hundreds of acres of surrounding forests with miles of hiking and biking trails. Interaction with GuestsWe try to leave our guests alone unless they require some information or sundry items. The NeighborhoodBeautiful unspoiled region of the White Mountains -- brooks, scenic vistas excellent star gazing . Bird watching. There is a nesting pair of golden eagle in the vicinity and we often see them soaring overhead on thermals. Once they even tried to snatch one of our laying hens (but weren't successful). We also once witnessed a perrigrine falcon strike a blue jay that was flying across our meadow. Our hiking trails are very popular and well-used by guests and locals. Getting AroundA vehicle is recommended although we have picked up guests from the nearby bus station. Other Things to NoteWe've been hosting guests in our bed and breakfast and cabins for over 25 years, so we are not new to being hosts and knowing what guests want and appreciate .

Guests are advised to shop for groceries, etc. BEFORE arriving since there are no large grocery stores in the immediate area. Getting AroundGuests will need their own transportation. Pickups at airports and train/bus stations can be arranged. Other Things to NoteTheresa is a licensed massage therapist and massages can be arranged at $65 per hour. Our location seems to be in a prime owl habitat for we often hear them hooting throughout the night and there seems to a variety of species judging from the different hoots we hear. In early spring and late autumn we sometimes spot great horned owls on their yearly migrations. Their calls are thrilling to hear. There is also a nesting pair of golden eagles that live on nearby Stone Mountain and we can often see them soaring over our meadows on thermals. It appears that they have reared at least two more eaglets that we also spotted in the summer of 2015. Bring your binoculars.

Don't depend on your cell phone's GPS in the mountains. Printing out a map for back-up is best. THE BUILDING: Second Empire: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Following the Civil War, a population explosion in the cities and towns of the northern and western United States naturally led to a huge demand for new housing. At the same time, house design books and building parts catalogues were becoming available nationally and streetcars and trains brought newer, more distant suburbs with space for large new houses within commuting distance of major cities. These factors along with a postwar industrial and economic energy resulted in the flowering of a variety of new architectural styles. Overall floor plans and forms became more varied and complex, with styles increasingly defined by the shapes of door and window openings and applied decoration at windows, doors, porches, and particularly front entries. The Second Empire (or French Second Empire) style was considered to be the modern fashion of the late nineteenth century, mimicking the latest French building styles. Its distinctive mansard roof was named for an early French architect, Francois Mansart ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)), and was used extensively during the reign of Napoleon III ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)), France’s Second Empire. Exhibitions in Paris in 1855 and 1867 helped to popularize the style internationally. The mansard roof became particularly popular in urban areas where it provided a full attic story of living space and was also commonly used in remodeling older buildings. Houses in the Second Empire style are essentially defined by this distinctive roof type, with other detailing reflecting a number of different fashions (most commonly Italianate details) or even a combination of several different styles. The second empire style was used for many public buildings during the Presidency of Ulysses S. Grant ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) and is therefore sometimes referred to as the General Grant style. The Second Empire style rapidly faded from popularity following the panic of 1873 and subsequent economic depression. Geographic Range: This style was most popular in the northeastern and midwestern states and less common on the Pacific Coast or in the southeastern United States. Second Empire townhouses were particularly popular in urban areas where the mansard roof provided a full upper story of usable attic living space. Typical Features: Mansard (dual-pitched) roof with dormer windows on steep, lower slope; roof profile can be straight, flared, or curved; colored roof shingles and slate or tin tiles form decorative patterns Molded cornices bound lower roof slope above and below Decorative brackets beneath eaves Beneath roofline decorative details are usually similar to Italianate (windows, doors, and porch details), though also may find details suggesting other styles Typically square or L-shaped blocks of between two and four stories One or two-story bay windows common Full porches common Tall first-story windows; elaborate window surrounds (arched, hooded, pedimented, or dentiled) Tall chimneys Typically stone but also brick or wood frame with clapboard siding High-Style Elaborations: Rectangular or square towers, usually centered on the front façade, less commonly at junction of main block and L-shaped wing. Ornate cast-iron cresting at roof ridges and tower

The SpaceDownstairs there is a bathroom with a shower. The living room has a wood stove, couch and full sized futon. There is a full kitchen with a propane refrigerator. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with queen bed and full bath and a loft sitting area. There is a fire pit in the yard, and a grill on the porch with table and chairs for eating outside to enjoy the mountain views. Guest AccessAll space is available except the cabin which is across the driveway from the house and the laundry which is not accessible as it is complicated and expensive to use with the solar electricity. Interaction with GuestsI will be available by phone for any questions. During the period of Oct 2-12 I may be staying in the cabin next door for part of the time. The NeighborhoodClosest neighbors are my friends and live 1/4 mile down the mountain road. Getting AroundThere is plenty of parking in the driveway at the house. Nearest public transportation is 20 minutes drive in Conway, NH. Other Things to NoteIn rainy times a generator can be turned on for extra power, but most of the time the solar panels provide all you need.

The SpaceOne step above camping! This comfortable dry cabin shares the lot with my solar house. It is a great place to crash when visiting the white mountains and western Maine. It has electricity but no plumbing and no kitchen. 4 wheel drive is necessary in winter months to get up the mountain road. Bedding and towels are not included. There is a composting toilet in the cabin and a real toilet and shower in the main house for guests to use. Guest AccessThere is a shared bathroom in the main house where a shower is available. Interaction with GuestsI will be living in the house during your stay. The cabin will not be for rent when the house is rented out to other guests. The NeighborhoodThe cabin is located at the end of a dirt road at the top of a small mountain. The nearest neighbor is a 1/4 mile down the mountain. Getting AroundYou have easy access by car to the surrounding towns of Fryeburg, Conway and North Conway. There is a bus line that runs to Conway, 1/2 hour away. Other Things to Note4 wheel drive is necessary in winter months to get up the mountain road. Bedding and towels are not included. It has a sawdust composting toilet which is similar to what they have at some of the remote hiker shelters in the white mountains. The property is "off-the-grid" and solar powered. This means we are running on batteries when the sun goes down. Electric appliances with a heating element cannot be used during your stay as they will greatly deplete the battery charge and possibly damage the electrical system. Examples are: Space Heaters, toasters, hair dryers etc (minimal use is of a hair dryer is OK). There is a generator on site if our electric supply is low due to cloudy days. I may need to run this generator for an hour or two during your stay in the winter months. I will communicate with you if this is necessary and if there is an electric appliance that you absolutely need to use please let me know and it may be possible. (cell phone chargers are fine and don't use that much power) Thank you in advance for understanding!

The SpaceThis log home has such a warm, "Hansel & Gretel" ambiance. The walls, floors and ceilings are all wood with exposed beams in some rooms. Two bedrooms have double beds, one has a queen, and one has a twin, which all rent separately. There is a lower rate for the twin for just one person. Please ask upon inquiry. I can sometimes accommodate an extra person at $20/per night, to share your room on an air mattress, but there is only one shower! Lines can be frustrating, so you should know this upfront! Guest AccessThere is a shared kitchen and bath, aaccess to all common areas. Wifi throughout and tv in the common areas, (living room and three season porch) Interaction with GuestsI will be available to visit or can keep to myself, depending on the comfort level and interests of my guests. We will share common areas. The NeighborhoodI love the location of my home, as it is very close to the Saco River and Weston's Beach. Across the street is a 4 mile paved walking/biking trail. Downtown is just a half mile away with summer concerts on the green, a variety of restaurants, a natural food store, and a couple of farm stands. Fryeburg Academy has a great performing arts center, and Stone Mountain Arts is just 8 miles from my home. World Class hiking, tax-free shopping and family fun, summer or winter, is just across the river in North Conway and the surrounding White Mountain National Forest. Getting AroundWe do not have public transportation here but there are a few taxi services in the area, and a bike rental place in North Conway. Other Things to NoteEach of the four bedrooms rent separately. One queen, two doubles, and a twin, (which is a lower rate! Ask for details!) The whole house can be rented by a group but often there are couples traveling separately. I have two cats that live here with me. I will keep them in my space while you are here but you should know in case of allergies!

The SpaceFryeburg is just a few minutes from North Conway and tax-free shopping. World class hiking, water sports, and a great biking trail are just outside the door. The rustic Maine Coast, Old Orchard Beach and Portland are just about an hour to the east. My home has three bedrooms and a half bath upstairs, with a queen bed in the larger bedroom, two double bedrooms, (and a cute space with an LL Bean padded cot, tucked under the eaves of a fourth bedroom. ) The main level features a camp-style kitchen, shower/bath, dining room, living room with gorgeous stone fireplace with a wood stove, a three season porch with gorgeous views, and which has access to a nice deck to grill on or hang out on. Large Master bedroom with queen sized bed and tv, slider with access to the deck, and a cozy room with a double bed are also on the first floor and accessible through a small hallway which can be closed off. I want my guests to have fun however this is not a "party" house and has to be respected as such. While I have no problems with alcohol consumption, overly intoxicated individuals will not be tolerated and asked to leave the premises. I live on the property and want my guests to respect the comfort of neighboring residents as well as myself. No illegal drug use of any sort will be permitted on or in the premises. No more than two (2) guests permitted to stay in each double bedroom and no more than one (1) guest in the single bedroom. No more than eleven (11) individuals permitted to stay in our home. Just be aware that though there is a heated outdoor shower in warmer months, there is only one shower in the house. My house is on the main road, and traffic can sometimes be a bit noisy. I have truly tried to make the inside so cozy and comfortable that you won't notice or mind. It is not constant traffic, and is very peaceful between passing vehicles, but please know this before you decide to book here. The location really is so convenient to such a wide variety of local treasures, and the noise is not constant city traffic noise! No burning of candles - EVER. Guest AccessThe main living areas and grounds are yours to enjoy! Parking for up to 5. Interaction with GuestsI will maintain access to a locked room where I will keep my personal belongings and where I will sleep. I will only access the main house between guests. If I need to get in there while you are visiting, for some unanticipated reason, I will certainly get permission from you. On the other hand, I will be nearby and am more than happy to share some knowledge of the area and fill you in on some great things to do and see upon your arrival! The NeighborhoodI love the unreal mountain views and sunsets out back. The Mountain Division biking and walking trail is just across the street and is now 4 miles long. The plan is to connect it to Portland someday! The Saco River runs by the back and a public beach is just a short distance away, where you can relax, kayak, or canoe! Fryeburg Village has some nice restaurants, a great bakery, a couple little shops, and of course, Fryeburg Academy and it's Performing Arts Center. Stone Mountain Arts is just a few miles away in Brownfield and is known to attract some top musicians. Fryeburg is close to Stone Mountain Arts Center and not a bad ride to Storyland and the Kancamagus Highway. My home is just two miles from the Fryeburg Fairgrounds! Book early if you want to go to the fair! Getting AroundThere really isn't much for public transportation here, except for taxi service. You can rent bikes in North Conway and there are some great trails for biking. Other Things to NoteI do have two cats and though it is my mission to be sure the house is as clean as possible, you should be aware of that if there are any guests traveling with you that may have cat allergies. I would rather not have guests bring their own pets.

Located on fifty beautiful acres in a rural area of the Mt. Washington Valley, the Brookside Cabin is perfect for families or those who love outdoor activities. Excellent biking ( groups of bicyclists often stay with us)and mountain biking with detailed maps provided. Trout stream on property. Hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails accessible for year round activities. Bring your horses -- we have new , large barn with four box stalls , paddocks and run-in. Plenty of room for parking, including RVs; motorcyclists can park their rides in our secure garage. (We are about an hour's scenic ride from Weir's Beach.) There is much to do in the region but the highlights are Mt. Washington, tax-free shopping in nearby Conway , dozens of excellent restaurants, bird-watching in the Brownfield Bog Wildlife Management area , canoeing on the Saco River and the nearby (2.5 miles) Stone Mountain Arts Center that is quickly gaining regional reputation for the top notch entertainment and dining offered. The Brookside has three bedrooms: The master bedroom on the first floor has easy accessibility for handicapped guests and has a queen sized bed and adjacent bathroom. Two additional bedrooms are downstairs and each has two twin beds, one has a pullout couch, and those two bedrooms share a bathroom. The main living area features a large, bright, fully equipped kitchen (guests have cooked Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners there and if you can't find what you need we'll provide it or buy it for you). There are several comfy easy chairs situated around a gas fireplace as well as a pullout couch in the event additional family members or friends show up. In good or bad weather guests enjoy our deck, adjacent to the dining area , with its gas BBQ, large picnic table and great views of the pristine forests surrounding the cabin.. Hike, ski or bicycle right from the front door, there are several miles of well-mark trails right on the property and hundreds of miles of adjacent trails. We also have a large outdoor fire pit with plenty of dry firewood easily available -- great spot for story telling and roasting marshmallows. Star gazing is unsurpassed since there is no light pollution from malls, highways, etc. One guest has told us: "This is the first place we've come to that exceeds the description and our expectations." Come see for yourself. We have numerous families and groups that return year after year. While we are physically located in the foothills region of western Maine, we are only a half mile from the NH border and ten miles from the shops, restuarants, skiing and other amenities of Conway and the Mt. Washington Valley. Best of all, there is none of the traffic that visitors to the Mt. Washington have to deal with when staying right in the Mt. Washington Valley. All the benefits , none of the hassles. The surrounding countryside is very rural -- many farms and large tracks of forestland that have miles of trails and are great for cross country skiing , mountain biking or snow shoeing. The Brownfield Bod Wildlife Sanctuary is five miles away and offers great opportunities for bird watching, snow shoeing , cross country skiing and kayaking . Fabulous scenery.

The SpaceThe cabin was built in 1966 and purchased by a family friend, Jim V. He died a few years ago with no family but he loved this cabin. I grew up in this cabin ringing the bells and swimming in the pond with friends and Jim. Jim was a school teacher from NJ and loved to say "the best part of being a teacher was July and August". Not because of the teaching but he could escape to this cabin for 2+ months. Oh, how did I get this wonderful home.... He noted it in his will that I would have the first chance to buy the cabinet before it going up for sale. I bought it and all the sales went to a Maine orphanage. Guest AccessAccess will be arranged by having the key placed where you can find it on the day of your arrival. When you leave just leave the key back outside where it was for pick up. Interaction with GuestsI am available by phone and text / email. If I am not in the area I have family that can assist. The NeighborhoodEveryone knows everyone. The entire pond community knows who I am and I'm getting to know them. It's a community built on everyone loving the water. Getting AroundWhat I like about getting around is that it is in the woods on dirt roads though a camp ground. Away from the roads and busy areas.
