The SpaceThe view from our cabin on Fontana Ridge is spectacular -- one of the best on the mountain. We look down on the Tuckasegee River and out to the Smoky Mountains. The roads are paved all the way up the mountain, which makes for easy access all year long. Our cabin is on five acres of forested land. My family created a retreat for our family and friends, with comfort and family fun in mind. Multiple levels with extra use rooms allow us to spread out so we don't have that "on top of each other" feeling, yet the cabin is cozy and comfortable when everyone gathers together. All the bedrooms are furnished with real beds with deep mattresses and solid dressers and tables. The master bedroom is nestled under the peak of the A-frame on the top floor. Windows and doors open to the outside deck and the loft space next to the room, which, along with the ceiling fans, allows good circulation. The spacious room easily accommodates the king sized bed and furniture without feeling cramped. Step outside onto the private deck to watch the sunset or come in and read in the loft sitting area outside the bedroom. The sofa in the loft area pulls out into a bed for your extra guests. The deck wraps around two sides of the main living area and that's where we spend most of our time in the summer. The covered space means you can enjoy the view even in the rain while the uncovered side opens to the sun and moon. We take most of our meals on the picnic table on the deck but there is a large dining table just inside the French doors. There are two bedrooms on this floor (one queen, one double bed), the bathroom, the great room, kitchen and dining area. In keeping with our goal of comfort, the plush seating in the great room includes four recliners. There is a flat screen tv with DiretTV and a wood burning fireplace. The floor plan is open, with a partial wall separating the kitchen from the rest of the space. The kitchen includes microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven in addition to a large stand up refrigerator/freezer and full stove. We have designated the downstairs as the gaming rooms, providing a pool table, two tvs, a DVD player and many family games, from dice to cards to board games, These are stored in a cabinet in the large game room and are available to everyone, along with a handful of paperback books and DVDs. The room with the pool table and tv has two small cafe tables and we think of it as the grown-up game room. The kids' game room has a high, cafe style game table, a daybed, bean bag chair, tv and DVD player, and a giraffe. The giraffe is my brother's touch of whimsey and although we know it doesn't belong in the mountains, the kids like it. This lower level also has a laundry room with a washer and dryer and a sink. There's a door to the parking area on this level. Guest AccessGuests will have full access to the house except for one locked closet. *** UPDATE *** DUE TO DROUGHT CONDITIONS, THE LAUNDRY ROOM HAS ALSO BEEN LOCKED. We apologize for the inconvenience but this necessary to conserve water. Interaction with GuestsThis is our vacation home so we will not be around during your stay. The NeighborhoodWe are above the Tuckasegee River in Bryson City. Be warned -- people come here and never want to leave. There are many "transplants" in Bryson City, which has given the town a unique atmosphere. Traditional mountain life meets outdoors adventure. There is river rafting, tubing, kayaking. Zip lining, hiking, biking. Small town crafts, thrift stores, and fine arts. The Smoky Mountain railroad depot is downtown. Bryson City is the perfect home base for exploring Western North Carolina and Tennessee. Easy day trips include Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Cades Cove. The Smoky Mountain Nantahala Gorge hosted the 2013 World Championships of Connie Freestyle in September. Bryson is minutes from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This part of North Carolina is famous for its scenic drives. And for those wanting a break from all the scenery and outdoor activity, Asheville is an hour away. Getting AroundThere's no public transportation. You will need a car but the roads are paved and we have a large, flat parking area next to the cabin so it is easy access. Other Things to NoteNOVEMBER 2016 -- Western North Carolina is suffering from wild fire and extremely dry conditions. There is a ban on all outdoor fires, including grilling, and fires in the fireplace, as well. Fontana Ridge is on well water. All of us are sharing the same water and it is low. We have had to lock the laundry room and will be washing the linen off site. No Worries is not renting to larger parties until conditions have improved. We also urge everyone to conserve water during their visit. We have DirectTV on two of the three tvs. The third has a DVD player.

The kitchen has all modern appliances: stainless steel fridge with bottom pull out freezer and ice cube trays, toaster, toaster oven, coffee pot, dishwasher, oven, center Island with two barstools,/ eating space, and, round glass top kitchen table and chairs. Living room is enjoyable and offers a very plush reclining sofa with center console, over sized plush reclining chair, wood burning fireplace, large flat screen TV (in all rooms) Dish TV and free WI-FI. Storage box with board and card games to the left of the fireplace, and a large wood coat hanger to hang your coats. Just outside the Master bedroom, through the French doors, is the furnished screen porch that sits above the creek. GREAT place to start your day! "Brand new" hot tub with color changing lights that seats 4 right below the screen porch, and, right above the creek!! Home has central heat and air, ceiling fans and, wall mounted flat screen TV'S, stackable washer and dryer in the hall closet, table top ironing board and iron in the second bedroom closet, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. All you need to bring are your clothes and toothbrush. All bath towels, wash cloths, dishes glasses, and utensils are provided. Paper towels and, toilet paper to get you started. And yes, there is even a hair dryer in the Master bathroom in the cabinet under the first sink. As my guest, I want you to feel completely at home. The drive to the cabin is very scenic. It is paved all the way to the home with beautiful winding roads and, beautiful views. It is close to everything, so, you will not be spending more time in your car, and less time enjoying yourselves. It is off a state maintained road with very easy access. It is very motorcycle friendly. The cabin is one exit west of Bryson City, a hop skip and a jump to the Alarka boat marina, close to The Nantahala Outdoor Center, The Cherokee Casino, Oconaluftee Visitors Center where you can park and watch the elk come down from the mountains and graze in the fields. It is absolutely amazing!! Firewood is in a storage bin to the left of the stairs entering the cabin as well as a charcoal BBQ grill. Please DO NOT USE ANY ACCELERANTS TO START FIRE IN THE INSIDE FIRE PLACE/OUTSIDE FIRE PIT AT ANY TIME. (COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY). USE STARTER LOGS. PLEASE DO NOT PUT COVER FROM THE HOT TUB ON THE GROUND AT ANY TIME AS THERE IS A COVER CADDY ATTACHED TO THE SIDE OF THE TUB. Open cover in half, slide into the caddy, then gently pull the caddy towards you and it will hold it in place. Reverse to replace the cover. Make sure that the corners are gently pushed down snuggly. If you are traveling with children, when done with the outside hot tub, please use the latches in each corner to lock the tub cover to prevent entry from children. They just snap together. Remember to UNLATCH the straps before entering the hot tub again. If not, it will tear the handles. You have full access to the cabin. The only area that is a do not touch is the dresser in the Master bathroom. Owners personal items.(drawers are locked) I love to interact with my guests. I feel that it is very important to keep an open line of communication. I would like my guests to consider staying at the cabin again. If there is anything that I can help you with, I want you to be able to call me anytime. My guests' happiness is very important me! I interact with my guests as much as possible. I enjoy it. I have been in town a few times when the cabin has been rented and had the pleasure of meeting several of my guests. Had a great time in doing so!! I wish that I could be there to meet each and everyone of you, but, unfortunately, that is not always possible. I love the ease of access to the property. Even in the winter months as it is right off of a "state maintained road". The State does a great job of keeping the roads cleared. It is peaceful and quiet, close to all the attractions, but not on top of any of the neighbors. The restaurants in town are really good. The Cork & Bean, Everett Street Diner, Jimmie Macs, Iron Skillet, Anthony's for pizza, ice cream shops and The Filling Station. Great "home made ice cream sandwiches!! They are huge and so many flavors to choose from!! YUMMY. Then going the other way, you have The Nantahala Bistro, and at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, The Rivers End which sits right above the river! Great scenery, and great food!! Parking is right on the property. There is enough room for 3 cars on the half moon driveway. You DO NOT need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to the cabin. It is a very beautiful ride there and convenient to the grocery store and gas stations, as well as getting to Downtown Bryson City. I believe there is a cab service in town. Phone book is in the kitchen, bottom drawer to the left of the fridge. Also, Swain Public Transportation. Please note: When booking the cabin, there is an additional fee of $30.00 for the "unlimited use" of firewood for the outside fire pit, and, inside fire place. There was not an option for additional fees for this. If you need extra housekeeping services, please see "housekeeper" in the cabin guide book. You will have to pay the housekeeper "directly" when her services have been rendered. (Seperate from contract fee) Please notify me IMMEDIATELY if there are breakages of any kind. In case of EMERGENCY, call 911 and please use the house phone, as the cell service can be sketchy. Other information you may need is in the cabin guide book. Power outages,(Duke Electric), address/phone number for the home, local hospital, etc. Guest AccessFull use of the house Interaction with GuestsI interact with my guests as much as possible. Unfortunately, I cannot be there every time they are checking in. I do have a contract that needs to be taken care of before occupancy is taken. Goldie's Hideaway Cabin has the mountain view you've been looking for. This 2 story log cabin has a row of Rocking chairs on the front porch to enjoy the beautiful mountain views that spread out below. At the opposite end of the porch, stairs lead to the side yard where you can slip into the secluded outdoor hot tub with mountain views to wind down. Entry is from the porch into the dining area. The dining table seats 6 in front of a series of windows filled with beautiful mountain views. To the right of the front door is the breakfast bar with seating for 4 more guests. The fully equipped kitchen has all dining and cooking utensils needed to prepare a family meal including a dishwasher to help with the clean up. Around the corner from the kitchen is the master bedroom on the entry level. This bedroom features a king size bed & TV. A full bath is just across the hall from this bedroom. Across from the dining area is the open living room where leather furnishing and mountain views surround the wood burning stone fireplace. Stairs to the upper level are in the living room. The stairs end at a open loft entertainment space. An air hockey table and Wii video game will help keep the kids busy. Make sure to bring their favorite games or DVD movies. Two more bedrooms are also on the upper level. The first has a queen size bed & TV and the second "kids room" has a twin over full bed bunk, and two separate twin beds and a Xbox 360 game system. A full bathroom with tub and shower combination is in the hall between these two bedrooms. The road to the cabin is gravel and steep in parts with a number of switchbacks. Novice flatlanders might find it difficult but it is accessible with a front wheel drive vehicle piloted by an aggressive or experienced driver. An All-Wheel or 4 Wheel Drive vehicle is recommended for the timid. An after dark arrival on your check-in day is not recommended Nearby the cabin: Eventually you will want to venture out away from the mountain paradise that is Goldie's Hideaway Cabin. When you do, you will find the quaint downtown area of Bryson City with its Train Station, variety of shopping and restaurants just a couple of miles down the mountain.
