Please note there is no oven or hob. There is a pretty outdoor table and chairs so that you can relax outside in the summer and soak up the sunshine, however we request that you respect our privacy and do not use the part of the garden that is in front of the main part of the house. Interaction with GuestsBella can recommend places to eat, to hire bikes to meander along the country lanes, to book a beach hut at the stunning wells beach (subject to availbaility), organise boat trips to see the seals at Blakeney point or sailing lessions at Morston. Whether you would like to eat tapas overlooking the marshes, cosy up in the pub, visit the many open gardens, bird watch or even have a private session of yoga and meditation, all can be arranged. The NeighborhoodBeck Farmhouse is located just outside the village of Hunworth, 2 miles from the Georgian market town of Holt and 6 miles from the coast, at Blakeney and Wiverton. The popular local pub the Hunny Bell, owned by Stody Estate, is 1 mile away, and serves delicious food in both the bar and the restaurant and is a very cozy place for a drink. The stunning and extensive North Norfolk coast is close by, with its many beaches, salt marshes and cliffs. Whether you wish to walk, sail, picnic, birdwatch, play golf, cycle, fish or just kick back and enjoy the peace and quiet of village life, it is all to hand. The stately homes of Blickling, Felbrigg, Holkham, Houghton and Sandringham are well worth a visit, together with the many historic Norfolk churches, market and seaside towns and charming unspoilt villages. Other Things to NoteThe popular local pub, the Hunnybell, is approx 1 mile away in the village of Hunworth. It is a lovely scenic walk (it takes us an easy 20 minutes) along a quiet country road, next to the meadow and through the picturesque village. Please note however that we would not recommend walking at night in the winter. Beck (as in Beck Farmhouse, which is us!) is old Norfolk dialect for a stream or small river and the house is named thus because of the beautiful strech of the river Glaven than runs alongside it. This part of the Glaven valley is a conservation area, with a 10½ mile long river flowing through picturesque countryside and then out to the North Sea. The scenic value of the Glaven valley is important to the tourist industry in North Norfolk and to the farmland surrounding it.

The SpaceThe Old Chapel is part converted Old Methodist Chapel and part 19th century cottage, with exposed beams throughout. After walking through a small entrance hallway, many people are surprised to see a vaulted open-plan kitchen/living room, with cobalt-blue ceiling. A dark green Rayburn lends warmth and ambiance from about October to May and as well as heating the water, is great for cooking. The table extends and there's a sofa for lounging. The utility room has a fridge-freezer and washing machine. Please note there is no microwave or dishwasher. Up a small flight of steps into the old cottage is a large airy bedroom with king size bed and a 3-in-1 divan (which can be used as a single or 2 single beds). There is neutral colour wall-to-wall carpet and woodland views from the windows. Below is the 'snug' sitting room, with a huge inglenook fireplace and warm red decor. There are two upright armchairs as well as a comfy sofa bed (double bed with real mattress). A door leads out to a small south-facing private garden. An inner door leads to the bathroom. When used as a bedroom, this room becomes en suite. The main door to the bathroom is next to the entrance hallway. The bathroom is spacious with warm decor, a roll-top bath, separate shower, bidet and under-floor heating. The Old Chapel is fully furnished. It sleeps 4 guests comfortably, either all in the bedroom (double & 2 singles) or 2 guests can use the 'snug' sitting room as a 2nd double bedroom. Duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels are provided. A discount is offered if guests bring their own bed linen and towels: £5 per single/£10 per double per stay, to be refunded on arrival. There is: - a fully-equipped kitchen with electric hob (in addition to the Rayburn) - oil-fired central heating - Freeview TV - WiFi - washing machine - iron/ironing board Please note, there are a few steps in the house (apart from the stairs) which could be a problem for anyone with mobility difficulties. There are also 3 doors in the old cottage part of the house which are smaller than usual and can be a hazard for people taller than 5'10" (1.77m). Guests with children are welcome. The village playground on St Giles Road is very good and has lots of space to kick a football too. Guest AccessGuests have access to their own self-contained house. Entry is through the blue front door which faces road. The Old Chapel adjoins Chapel Cottage: we are further along on the left at the end of the road. There is an off-road parking space for one car next to our car. Parking is limited on St Giles Road. The Old Chapel has a small south-facing private garden which has a pebble-stone patio with garden bench and table. Interaction with GuestsThe owners, James and Sharon Harvey, live with their family in the other half of The Old Chapel, which reached by going around to the right of the front door, behind the cars through the gate. We will be available and happy to offer advice on arrival and any time during the stay, though mornings are probably the best time. Unfortunately mobile phone reception can be poor in the village. Guests can use the house land line if they need to make an urgent or emergency call. The NeighborhoodThe Old Chapel in Swanton Novers is in a quiet location at the end of St Giles Road, a no-through road, on the left. The view from the house is across fields towards ancient oak woodland. The Swanton Great Wood is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. While privately owned, part of the woodland is managed by English Nature as Swanton Novers National Nature Reserve to protect the bluebells and is open to the public. The public footpath is just next to The Old Chapel. Swanton Novers is a perfect location for all visitors to the countryside and nearby coast, and especially walkers and birders - there is a nearby raptor point on the Fulmodeston Road just off the B1110. This is a quiet country village with no shop or pub but it does have a modern village hall with activities on offer, including yoga and pilates classes. There is also a good children's playground and space to play football. Both village hall and playground are on St Giles Road - a few minutes' walk from The Old Chapel. The nearest shop is in Melton Constable, 5 minutes drive away, with Co-op shop, post office, doctors' surgery, petrol station and good butcher. The village of Briston is a further 5 minutes drive with a larger Co-op shop, post office, Mace Stores, bakery, family butcher and 2 pubs, The Three Horseshoes and Explorers' Bar. From there towards Holt in the village of Hunworth is the popular Hunny Bell pub. Swanton Novers is well situated for visits to the beautiful North Norfolk coast nearby. It is 20 minutes drive to Morston and Blakeney which are ideal for walkers (Norfolk Coast Path) and visitors can take boat trips to the seals at Blakeney Point. Along the coast road a few miles east is Norfolk Wildlife Trust's Cley Marshes, a birders' paradise, which has a visitor centre and cafe, and new Simon Aspinall Education Centre that was opened by Sir David Attenborough in June 2015. Further along is the village of Salthouse with the excellent pub The Dun Cow and continuing east are the popular coastal towns Sheringham and Cromer. To the west there is Wells-next-the-Sea with it's large harbour and resident sailing barge The Albatross which makes specialty pancakes, Holkham beach, The Burnhams and Hunstanton (Sealife Centre). Closer to home is the Georgian town of Holt (5 miles) and the market town of Fakenham (7 miles), with a market every Thursday. There are lots of places to visit: Thursford steam engines and famous Christmas Spectacular Morston and Blakeney Seal Trips NWT Cley Marshes Visitor Centre and cafe Pensthorpe Nature Sanctuary Holkham beach and coastal paths Pensthorpe Nature Sanctuary Walsingham shrine Cromer pier Blickling Hall (National Trust) Cathedral city of Norwich King's Lynn Hunstanton Sealife Centre Norfolk Broads Felbrigg Hall (National Trust) Getting AroundThere is no public transport through the village.
