The SpaceGuests at Zani Cottage are welcome to mix with hosts Gerry and Margot, and other artists or residents living on the property. Your BnB room is most definitely private while the rest of the cottage itself is sometimes shared and sometimes not. Talk with us about your interest in staying and we can often accommodate your particular needs, including artists studio space. Please note $20 extra for second person. No television, though we have DVDs and small speakers available if you have a laptop. Please see the house manual re wifi, heating and fireplace. Bathroom shared. Toilet just outside the back door, attached to the house and undercover. Guest AccessThe old front verandah and simple deck are magic on sunny mornings and summer nights, and the enclosed grassy yard has a little fire pit for those starry clear nights from April-Mid November. A larger firepit (autumn, winter, spring) and BBQ area are situated in the central meeting area and available by request. Thus your stay can be focused on your own area or you can mingle with other activities around Zani Place. If you're out and about doing your own thing, you can come and go as you please. Gerry is often working in the glass studio (not always), but bookings need to be made for guaranteed access to demos, workshops and soirees. We have a lot of ongoing work on our landscape and studio projects and sometimes volunteers, family or friends come to help. There's plenty of space for picnics and also the main big fire-pit for spontaneous gatherings and studio events in winter and till mid Nov fireban season. In summer time, we have occasional events - music and film nights and assorted gatherings. And if you're interested in hiring any or all of the Zani spaces for events, please ask. Interaction with GuestsWe are your hosts, Margot and Gerry and we live in our own farmhouse on the other side of the central area and old orchard at Zani Place; while the hot glass studio sits snuggly behind Zani Cottage. We are generally around the property most days, and open to a variety of connections with guests, though sometimes Gerry is focused on a big commission; or Margs is running theatre workshops at the Cultural Centre. There are often other artists or young 'glassies' or farm workers staying with us, or in the second bedroom of the cottage. So interaction with guests can vary hugely week to week, as can the ongoing projects we are focusing on, whether hot glass commissions; glassmaking experience workshops (yes you can book in); wood-firing of pottery from local clay; walks, gatherings or landscape, studio development and renovation projects. Rest assured, its a very friendly, connected and warm, hospitable place for those who come to stay, and there's regular drop-ins from local friends. Visitors to the studio are mostly by appointment, although we do run open studios during specific times of year. Our two puppy dogs, Tally and Duke, might bark when you arrive to let us know you're here, but they'll soon be your best friends! The NeighborhoodZani Place is a unique 1.5ha hilltop location, with a pair of old surviving farmhouses - from a bygone era as icons of the past - atop the beautiful Kevill Rd valley. This is low budget, friendly, creative and somewhat bohemian old Margaret River for those who are independent and don't need pampering. Zani Place is a fascinating experience from the hot glass to the many and varied processes of art-making and doing; connecting with creative people; meeting and getting to know real locals; wandering in the great outdoors, gardening, reading a book, star-gazing or just lazing about. It is a 10 minute walk to the Margaret River Waterfall, and there are walks all along the river front for miles. Getting AroundSet between Margaret River town and the coast, we are 5 mins drive (40 min walk) to the shops, restaurants etc or to Prevelly and the surf. There's a bike track all the way from town to the coast, and Cape Mentelle Vineyard and Outdoor Summer Movies are literally around the corner. We often have the odd bicycle around to borrow or you can hire great bikes in town. Caves Rd is a minute away, heading north to Wilyabrup and Yallingup, or south to the forests, the caves and Augusta. We have special connections to share with you for numerous local businesses and places to explore. Other Things to NoteHot glass workshops and half our talk/demos are available by booking on our website - look up Melting Pot Glass Studio on (website hidden) -or just ask when you're enquiring about the BnB. While Gerry is often at work in the studio, his hours are not regular and he is often very focused on commissions, or on teaching privately booked workshops. You are welcome to connect while you're here, and he responds best when agreed times are arranged for demos and consultations. This is easy to organise with Margot or Gerry upon request. Children must always be accompanied by an adult and shoes must be worn, when in and around the glass studio. Margs is also a local storyteller and community theatre artist and loves to share some of the stories she's researched, projects and plays she's created: from the tragic loss of Timothee Vasse from the Baudin-French Expedition in 1801; to tales of shipwrecks and karri trees in Hamelin Bay and the old Karridale timber industry days at the turn of last century; and indigenous projects she's worked on. Both Margs and Gerry love a good yarn of an evening, and welcome your stories and tales as well.
