The SpaceThe pictures shown are Unit #3, as well as some of the common areas of the house. It is the entire 3rd floor of the house, with 2 bedrooms, private bathroom, kitchen, living room and dining room space. There is a small refrigerator. There is a bathtub, but no shower. And it is a bit cozy in the bathtub! (no headspace, you actually have to sit/lay in the tub. See the pictures) It really is cute and charming, but if you prefer a shower, the bathrooms on the main and 2nd floor both have shower/baths. Guest AccessIn addition to your private space, there are two shared bathrooms (on the 2nd floor and main floor), as well as a shared kitchen (if you'd prefer that to your private kitchenette) and living room on the main floor. Kitchen, refrigerator, bathroom, laundry, etc are all fully stocked and available for your use. Bring your own food of course! Interaction with GuestsThe property manager, Jim, lives on site in Unit #4. He is often around throughout the day and in the evenings and is available to give you information about the area and help out with any major issues. The NeighborhoodThe home is on the north side of historic Wheeling Island. Most of the homes in the area we built in the 1880's to 1920's. Supposedly, the city of Wheeling has the most still standing Victorian homes in the nation. Unfortunately, the island has seen better days. Driving around the island, you will see plenty of big, old, beautiful homes in serious need of some TLC! But that is turning around, as more younger people are moving in and putting in the time and care to restore these beautiful old homes. Look in the guidebook for the best restaurants in the area! There are some other good places nearby, but these are our favorites. The SpaceIt would be a great space for a family/friends reunion weekend, a couples getaway, girls crafting weekend, executive team building weekend or just visiting the area. A great winery, Black Sheep Winery, is within walking distance. The wrap around porch is peaceful and spacious. Please note that only one of the bedrooms is private...the other 2 finished bedrooms are separated by tall partitions to make them functional rooms. This is why the lodge is a great space for family and friends that want to spend quality time together! Guest AccessThe whole lodge is yours. Enjoy! Interaction with GuestsYour hosts, Tom and Pam live 20 minutes away from the lodge in St. Clairsville, OH The NeighborhoodIt is a serene country setting with a wrap around porch and chairs to enjoy the fresh air! Getting AroundIt is a very rural setting so no public transportation is nearby. We are a short drive from some fabulous outdoor activities such as Oglebay, Wheeling Park, and Sally Buffalo Park. We are also fairly close to Wheeling WV and the Wheeling Island Casino. St. Clairsville OH is approximately 20 minutes away with many shopping and restaurant options. The SpaceThis house is old. It's like an old man. It's charming - lots of wood detail. We call it "Greenman" because of the tile work above the front door. You'll have to check that out. Guest AccessGuests may have access to the common areas of the house - the kitchen, dining room, living room, back porch. Interaction with GuestsWe are often a bustling home - especially on weekends. We try to keep things low-key and are happy to accommodate both guests who like to socialize and those who would like to keep to themselves. The NeighborhoodWalking distance from Wheeling's downtown with great resources like Heritage Port, Ohio County Public Library, Wesbanco Arena, and Center Wheeling - as well as restaurants like Later Gater, Vagabond Kitchen, Metro Grill, and Coleman's Fish Market. Where we are in East Wheeling is home to Good Mansion Wines, Grow Ohio Valley community gardens and greenhouses, and several beautiful churches and cathedrals. We are an urban neighborhood. We're in a section of town that includes services for homeless populations (the homeless coalition, soup kitchens, etc.). It's not always a quiet neighborhood - there are often kids running around in the summer and we are on a corner where kids wait for the school bus during the school year. Other Things to NoteThe first Friday of each month there's a trolley-bus that circles through the city of Wheeling. 30-min round trip, it's free and hits lots of shops and stops. Nice way to experience Wheeling.
