Something about the San Marco District
The San Marco district is, without doubt, the area with the highest concentration of tourists and the least inhabited by the Venetians.
It takes its name from the Basilica built to host the body of Mark the Evangelist, brought from Alexandria by two Venetian merchants, in the year 828. Since then St. Mark became the patron of the city taking the place of San Teodoro, the first patron saint of Venice.
Piazza San Marco is the centre of excellence of the district and just for this place, the Venetian toponymy gives the name of square. The square is one of the lowest point in the city and when it's comes the high tide the water flooding on larger parts, including the Portico of the Basilica. Piazza San Marco was the age-old centre of Venice and for centuries has been the perfect balance between political and religious power of the Serenissima Republic. The district of San Marco has many artistic beauty like the Correr Museum, the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana (a Renaissance building), the Scala of Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo and La Fenice Opera House.
The apartment is really close San Marco Square and the most places to visit.
Near there are supermarket, bars, restaurants, tobacco shop, boat stop.
