The SpaceThe room is individually air conditioned, and heated, so the guest may regulate the temperature to their own comfort level. It is bright and sunny, and the bed is luxuriously comfortable. It is a short walk to the bathroom at the end of the hall. Guest AccessThe guest may use the kitchen, the TV in the living room, and a reading room-den as well as their own room. Interaction with GuestsMy girlfriend is Dutch and speaks Dutch, German, and French, as well as English. I can get by in Spanish and French, with a smattering of Swahili, learned from my time in Africa. We are happy to share stories, or leave you alone, as you wish. The NeighborhoodWe are one block from the Choptank River, three blocks from the Cambridge Yacht Club (open to the public), and marina, 4 blocks from the replica Cambridge Lighthouse, 5 blocks from the working skipjack, which takes people on a two hour sail of the Choptank, and demonstrates oyster harvesting techniques under sail, and 6 blocks to a seafood processing company which still has watermen bring their crab, oyster and clam harvest to them for sail. The restaurant next door has very fresh seafood, and a view of the working drawbridge over Cambridge Creek. The park where concerts and Shakespeare are presented is right at the marina. Other restaurants and a microbrewery are a 10 to 15 walk. The 27,000 acre Blackwater Game Refuge is a 15 minute drive. as is the working Spotscot windmill, which still grinds flour. Getting AroundThere is plenty of on street parking, and we live within walking distance of almost every local restaurant in Cambridge. The typical fast-food places are a 5 minute drive, but why go there? Bring a bike...Cambridge is virtually flat as a pancake. The SpaceThis house was formerly the Glasgow Inn Bed and Breakfast, a tourist destination until the early 2000's. It is now a private home decorated in period style, with lots of extra bedrooms. The house was built around 1790 and has original moldings and woodwork, If you enjoy fine antiques and colonial charm, this is the place for you. And it is 2 blocks from the start of the triathlon. Glasgow is a historic home located at Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland. It is a Federal style, gable-front, 2 1⁄2-story brick house built about 1792. Attached is a 1 1⁄2-story frame wing dating from the early 20th century. Local history holds that the home was the birthplace of William Vans Murray, a diplomat appointed by Thomas Jefferson to be Minister Plenipotentiary, but land records and Murray's biographical data both indicate that it is unlikely that it was ever his home. It is possible, however, that Murray stayed there for some time after his return from his service as foreign minister in the Netherlands, with his first cousin William Murray Robertson, the owner at the time. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We are just outside the city limits of Cambridge, two blocks from Great Marsh park, where the triathlon begins. We are within walking distance to downtown and the marina, Long Wharf and Sailwinds park. We are next to Pink's Pond and across the street from the Choptank River. There is a nice sandy beach where we swim and kayak. Dorchester County, known as the heart of the Chesapeake, is known for the Blackwater wildlife refuge, the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad, and Horn Point Lab environmental center. You'll probably see bald eagles or osprey, as well as migrating geese and ducks, depending on the time of year. Guest AccessWe have 4 guest rooms that we are listing, and there are 4 shared bathrooms. You will have access to the entire first floor of the house- a TV room and formal living room and dining room, the kitchen, and patio with rocking chairs and tables. There is a gas grill outside. Interaction with GuestsWe'll greet you and get you oriented when you arrive, but then it's up to you if you want to interact or have some privacy. Your hosts are me, a home based editor, and my partner Dave, who is retired. We will be around during your stay. We don't serve you meals but you can you can use the kitchen to store and fix your own meals if you like. The dogs will probably want to be your friends. The NeighborhoodWe are just outside the city limits of Cambridge, two blocks from Great Marsh park, where the triathlon begins. We are within walking distance to downtown and the marina, Long Wharf and Sailwinds park. We are next to Pink's Pond and across the street from the Choptank River. There is a nice sandy beach where we swim and kayak. Getting AroundThere is a local bus line that runs down Hambrooks Blvd. We are a long walk from the downtown shopping and dining area, and very close to the YMCA. The Salisbury airport is closest (about 30 minutes) but only American Airlines flies in an out, with no direct flights- everything will go through Philadelphia or Charlotte. BWI airport is about 1 1/2 hours, and DCA is about 2. Traffic to the Eastern Shore can be impacted by weekend beach goers and Bay Bridge construction lane closures so plan accordingly. Other Things to NoteWe have two dogs (A Golden Retriever and a rescue mix) who are very people and kid friendly. We have an Invisible Fence, and they have free roam of the property to keep it safe from evil squirrels. All your linens and towels are provided, and any toiletries you need are available. We have a w/d you can use, and an outdoor hose. If you still have energy, ask me about borrowing my SUP, kayak, or sailboat. There is bocce ball on the lawn, and volleyball, corn hole, and we can even have bonfires on this property.
