Ski in winter, swim and fish in summer, relax in a lovely rural location at any time of year. This large, attractive cottage is on a scenic Vermont lake, surrounded by some of Vermont's most beautiful countryside and interesting communities. In the summer, it's a great spot for fishing, swimming, and canoeing. The lake frontage is across a quiet country road from the cottage, and is shared with our nearby other cottage, Fletcher Cottage # 3). Our private lake frontage is adjacent to a small public swimming area. The water is shallow for a fairly long distance from shore, so it is a safe swimming area for young children under adult supervision. It's also a good spot for launching a small boat. We provide a canoe, rowboat, kayak, and paddle boat for use by you and by those in our neighboring cottage. If you've got a small boat of your own, feel free to bring it along. In the winter, the cottage is a great home base for the East's best skiing, with huge savings in exchange for a driving a short distance to the slopes. The cottage is only 13 miles from the entrance to Smugglers Notch, widely regarded as one of the finest ski areas anywhere, both for skiing enthusiasts and for families. This is a way to get outstanding lodging for your ski trip for a fraction of what you would pay right at the resort. Or, if you prefer, try ice fishing or skating on the lake. Extras available at this cottage include: Two-person outdoor hot tub, in back of the house, for pleasant relaxation any time of year. WiFi broadband. Use of a canoe, rowboat, kayak, and canoe. (All boats shared with guests in our other cottage, Fletcher # 3.) For winter guests, discount adult ski passes at Smuggs. At any time of the year, the cottage is an ideal place for a relaxing retreat, a peaceful spot with space to sleep as many as six-to-eight people. Smugglers Notch, in addition to its reputation for skiing, is becoming a four-season resort area. Horseback riding is available at a nearby stable. You can tour the local winery or corn maze in nearby Cambridge. Many of Vermont's other well-known attractions, ranging from the Ben & Jerry's factory in Waterbury to the cultural attractions of the Burlington area are within an hour's drive. Montreal is close enough to make it a convenient day-trip. During the peak summer season we generally can take reservations for full weeks only — Saturday afternoon until the next Saturday morning. However, at other times of year, including the ski season, we often make it available for shorter periods, such as three-day weekends, or for "weeks" that begin midweek. PLEASE NOTE: Full weeks only during peak summer season. Two-day minimum applies the rest of the year. If you arrange directly with us, we ask a $100 deposit (minimum for up to a week) and balance by arrival.. Deposit to secure reservation (nonrefundable in most circumstances): $100 (minimum) for up to a week Balance (after deposit) due no later than scheduled arrival date. Reservation terms slightly different, as posted, when reservations are made through TripAdvisor.. Rates are subject to Vermont 9% rooms tax Check-in after 3 p.m. Check-out by 11 a.m. Rural area on small scenic lake. Short drive to Smugglers Notch ski area. Local attractions are rural in nature, such as horseback riding, corn maze, and winery tours. Short drive to more cultural events in the Burlington area, or an easy day trip to Montreal.

The SpaceRoom 2 is a cozy bedroom with a full-sized bed. Our home is set in rural VT, surrounded by pastures and an amazing view of Mt. Mansfield. There are trails all around us for hiking, biking, and skiing. Smuggler's Notch is only 10 minutes away. Our home is a remodeled farmhouse full of charm and warmth. We even have a yoga room for those who like to practice yoga or stretch. Our guests marvel at the surrounding beauty, the comfort of the house and bedrooms, and the variety of outdoor activities available to them. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the kitchen, living room, dining room, yoga room, their own private rooms and a shared bath. Our large yard and barn are great for games and the deck and porches are great for relaxing. There is plenty of space for parking. There is no private access for guests. Interaction with GuestsWe have lived in our home for over 25 years and in the area for another 10 years. We can advise our guests about ski areas, back-country skiing, mountain bike trails, road bike routes, paddling areas for kayaking and canoeing, local restaurants, shops, etc. The NeighborhoodOur "neighborhood" consists of a dairy farm across the street. If you are visiting during the warmer seasons, you will no doubt be entertained by the cows munching grass just across the (unpaved) street from us. Just down the road, within a short walking distance, there is an organic vegetable farm from where you can buy fresh produce. You can also join them for one of their Tuesday night farm-to-table dinners and enjoy a hay ride tour of their farm. A wonderful stroll down a stream-side path is just a couple of minutes away. On hot days you can find a swimming hole to plunge into that will cool you off in seconds! The Underhill State Park is just a few miles down the road and that, along with Smuggler's Notch area, gives you access to numerous hiking trails up Mt. Mansfield. During the colder winter months we are only 10 minutes away from Smuggler's Notch Ski Resort. Our trails out back can be used for cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing...a wonderful way to spot owls and other winter time birds. There's a local sledding hill about 5 minutes away (by car) that is a landmark around here. If you are visiting when the sap is running, visit our neighbor's Sugar House and get a tour of how maple syrup is made and definitely get some free samples! Getting AroundAlthough there is public transportation from Burlington to Underhill and Cambridge, the bus only runs twice a day and the bus stops are at least 5 miles from our house. You will definitely need transportation while you are here, and we highly recommend that you have a four-wheel drive (or at least snow tires) if you visit during the winter. Other Things to NoteOur property is a perfect place for weddings, especially for those looking for barn weddings. We recently renovated our 75+ year old barn and our son was married here this past summer. The perennial gardens are beautiful and the mountain views gorgeous. Please contact us if you would like to book your wedding with us!
