The SpaceThe Red Roof Cottage @ FireFly was originally built in the early 1980's by a couple who bought the nearly 30 acres of land from a local original Camden family and cleared several acres of it by hand. The first dwelling was a cozy & rustic 800 SF space that served as both a small barn and sleeping quarters for the couple. They spent many years here, just the two of them, planting trees, clearing land and enjoying the breathtaking views and solitude of the area. It changed hands in the early 2000s to a horse lover who commuted from Atlanta on the weekends. She added over 5 acres of paddock space and fencing, enclosed the bottom floor of the original cottage (where the tractor used to park), added a sun room, updated paint colors and had a local artist add whimsical artwork to the central seating and living area of the cottage. The horse-loving owner held on to the farm for a couple of years when the current owner made her an offer for purchase in an effort to gain a hand in marriage to his then girlfriend. He proposed to her in June 2006 on a concrete bench that still sits near the main pond on the property and 14 months later, they married on a hot summer's afternoon, beneath the pecan trees.
They quickly began a major addition and renovation that added 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, wash room, sun room and a large kitchen/family area. Over the years, a sitting/sun room was added upstairs as well as an additional full bath. The owner's children love the pool area complete with koi pond, hot tub, slide, waterfall grotto and outdoor kitchen area with ice maker, fridge, large gas grill and stone pizza oven. In 2013, a new home was completed on the farm and the Red Roof Cottage has since been used as guest's quarters.
