Hello there! Welcome to our house, we named it as Wogoxette Upstairs // MADE IN KT, a decades old family home built in the 70s, situated in a small village named Kuala Terla in Cameron Highlands, MALAYSIA. The house has been home to a happy family of seven for over 37 years. Now that our parents had retired and we, the children leaving the nest, we decided to refurbish our house into a vacation home for avid travellers like you, whom would love to experience living in a quaint kampung setting. We are living at the ground level of the house. Feel free to have chat with us and we are more than happy to share some local tips with you e.g. where to eat and where to play! Let me give you a quick introduction of our village. Unlike the major towns in Cameron Highlands, Kuala Terla is a small, serene and non-commercialised village. Our house is nestled in between the homes of locals (kampung houses), it provides a retreat for those looking to hide away from the city bustle. Our house has also been refurbished with a fusion of western and Asian retro decor. In the morning, you will be able to hear roosters crowing, school bell ringing, uncles and aunties chatting and kids running around or riding their bicycles. Most villagers are very friendly, however, not many of them can converse in English. If you speak / chat with them, they will try their best to communicate with you. One of the best 'Paos' (Chinese Buns) restaurant is located within our neighbourhood! They are made fresh daily. They have awesome 'Cham' (Mixed Tea & Coffee) too. Great for afternoon tea. (3PM onwards until sold out) In terms of transportations, there are local bus services, however, we would recommend you to have your own car for easy exploring. Many local attractions are within walking distance e.g. Cameron Valley Tea Plantation & Tea House. Lavender Garden, Grapes & Tomato Farms are just 10 min drive away. The rest? Come and explore! Our rate is RM250 (USD72) per night for the first 2 guests. RM46 (USD13) for each additional guest. Email: (EMAIL HIDDEN) Website: (URL HIDDEN) Specialized In: Cameron Local & Adventure Tours Express Coach Ticket Airline Ticketing Mini Van Transfer Call: +(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Most tourist attractions at Cameron Highlands lie within the major townships of Brinchang and Tanah Rata. Time Tunnel is a heritage museum showcasing the colonial history of Cameron Highlands through antiquated articles and memorabilia. Butterfly Garden and Butterfly Farm at Kea Farm are perennial favourites for their live insect display and zoological exhibits. The Night Market is a shopping adventure for crops, souvenirs and food, similar in style to the daily vegetable market at Kea Farm. Sam Poh Temple is an architectural marvel with ornate statues and altars to gaze at. Finally, MARDI Agro Park is an agricultural research station open to public at Tanah Rata. _____________________________________________________________ Tea Plantation, Brinchang Sungai Palas Garden is a tea plantation located in Brinchang about 5km north from town or 2km away from Kea Farm Market. Owned and managed by Boh Tea, it complements their main estate at Habu in Ringlet, featuring its very own tea center, visitor gallery and show factory. Likewise, the Sungai Palas tea garden is also shut up within its own isolated valley away from the main road, with access by a narrow route pass bungalows, forests and farms. The road in begins at left after the Butterfly Garden, with a large signboard that clearly indicates the way. After short but windy stretch, the view breaks into a magnificent panorama of vast tea fields stretched across the valley and slopes. Follow the road right from the signboard until the end; the Sungai Palas Boh Tea Center is perched on top a small hill. Visitors can park their car and then walk up by paved road, or trail through a tea garden that climbs across the slope. Facing the tea center is a garden area planted with lillies, cannas and flowering shrubs; visitors often relax here under the shade of small oak trees. The tea center itself is a spacious complex with fancy bits of modern architecture and design. From the entrance, a cafe sits left with an overhanging platform for viewing scenery, while right leads through through an exhibition gallery, past the Boh'Ria tea shop, next a video room, and finally ending at a small museum and garden area. An old factory for tea production still functions at the back; it's open to visitors just like the main Boh tea estate. Sungai Palas Tea Center is free to visit and open daily from 9am to 4.30pm, but closes on Mondays. _____________________________________________________________ Mossy Forest Gunung Brinchang The mossy forest is a natural environment that grows only at the highest elevations of Cameron Highlands and other mountain ranges across Malaysia. At such heights, low-level clouds in the sky driven by winds, blanket the forests with constant mist and moisture - creating an ideal biotope for moss, ferns, lichen and orchids. This moist tropical evergreen forest is also a rich repository for a varied set of montane creatures, encompassing insects, snakes, frogs, birds and mammals unique to this chilly atmosphere. Visitors can explore the mossy forest through a boardwalk 2km before the peak of Gunung Brinchang, beginning from a clearing along the main road. The series of wooden platforms winds for about 150m through the mossy forest, but is slippery when wet, though there are rope railings for a light measure of safety. In this chilly environment, stunted stumps, wrinkled leaves and gnarled branches of oak trees clump together, forming dense crowns that portrude furiously from the ground like mushrooms. As you turn around, look at the rich layers of moss that drape the tree trunks and butteresses, infusing them with a soft, green appearance. Meanwhile, vines, orchids, pitcher plants and other fascinating epiphytes hang loosely from the canopy, perched silently on branches and stems in this chillingly quiet labyrinth. Venturing below the boardwalk to step on the forest floor, visitors will soon discover its moist peat-like texture, each step leaving deep water-filled imprints on the soil. At the end of the walk, a trail starts towards Gunung Irau, the highest mountain in Cameron Highlands. _____________________________________________________________ Time Tunnel Gallery Museum Time Tunnel is a local museum dedicated to preserving the historical memory and cultural heritage of Cameron Highlands. Located in Brinchang, the museum occupies a basement within Kok Lim Strawberry Farm, perched next to the main road shortly after leaving Brinchang town towards Kea Farm. The 1,000 odd exhibits are the private collection of See Kok Shan, a Cameron local with a penchant for vintange items and memorabilia. Having acummulated much junk over years of domestic travel, See partnered with Kok Lim Strawberry Farm to open Time Tunnel - a way of sharing his treasure trove of memories with visitors from all walks of life. Walking down the passageway, it is clear that meticulous care has gone into recreating past scenery and landscapes for visitors to explore. Most prominent are the snapshots of life during the colonial era and subsequent years after Independence; a classic pubhouse, Chinese coffee shop ('Kopitiam'), traditional hair saloon, Peranakan dresssing room and even an old kitchen, complete with cans and utensils of extinct brands. Notable personalities are also highlighted, such as; legendary Thai silk trader Jim Thompson, who disappeared mysteriously from the Cameron Highlands in 1967; Singapore's first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who spend some holidays in his youth here; and P. Ramlee, an ancient but influential musican. Structurally, Time Tunnel is one long passageway that loops to the end, with exhibits along the sides or nested within recesses. Many of the 'artifacts' on display are simple (but ancient) items of popular culture; cigarette boxes, drink bottles, vinyl discs, cuckoo clocks and ceramic toys and other common stuff that have now become collectibles, due to their rarity and sentimental value. The museum even has sections on the agricultural activities, tourism development and aborigine lifestyles in Cameron Highlands. Meanwhile, soft evergreen tunes play from speakers, echoing through the basement to set visitors in the 'right' mood for a history lesson. Time Tunnel opens daily from 9am to 6pm; tickets are priced at MYR5 per adult and MYR3 per child. _____________________________________________________________ Brinchang Night Market Pasar Malam The Night Market is a popular shopping attraction among visitors that occurs every Friday and Saturday in Brinchang town, starting from early evening till late night. Known locally as 'Pasar Malam', this weekend bazaar occupies tarmac clearings on both sides of the main road slightly north of town in the direction of Kea Farm, opposite Star Regency Hotel. Similar to the daily market at Kea Farm, native products of Cameron Highlands are sold abundantly, including strawberries, vegetables, fruits, tea blends, ornamental plants and colouful souvenirs. The Night Market is also a culinary adventure - a tantalising exhibit of hawker stall food from different cultures across Malaysia. _____________________________________________________________ Gunung Brinchang Mountain Gunung Brinchang is the second highest mountain in Cameron Highlands (after Gunung Irau) at 2000 meters above sea level. The highest tarmac road in Malaysia leads up to the top, but its condition may be haphazard due to elements (repairs are carried out from time to time). When not assailed by heavy mist, the watchtower at the peak provides an incredible view of towns, valleys and mountains stretching towards the horizon. This makes Gunung Brinchang a popular viewpoint for visitors to admire the scenery and landscapes of Cameron Highlands. The fabled Mossy Forest also grows near the highest elevation point, with a boardwalk to explore this fascinating biotope. The access road begins at a left turning along the main road (from Kea Farm), immediately after Butterfly Garden. Next, follow the road for 2km until you reach the Sungai Palas junction. Turn left (right goes to the Sungai Palas tea estate) and you will soon be on a narrow road that oscillates between rough tarmac and concrete for 7km, passing through random intervals of verdant rainforest and vegetable farms. After covering this distance, the route steeply ascends steeply before reaching a ridgetop for the last 3km, culminating at the peak where a series of telecommunication towers perch. The watchtower nearby can be climbed for a magnificent view of Cameron Highlands and beyond - looking at all directions including Perak and Pahang states. Alternatively, visitors can also hike up Gunung Brinchang through a jungle trail that starts near Brinchang town. The detour begins at left along the main road after the police station, leading to a gravel track that reaches a small settlement (actually an army quarters). Look for a signboard that indicates the start of jungle walk No 1; enter the forest, and you'll soon be on the 3km trail that leads up to the peak. The hike is actually quite easy for moderately fit people and the trail marked by ribbons and red markings on trees. If the trail seems to end abruptly, look carefully behind you - some junctions may be obscured by dense foliage, or happens to break into a near vertical climb across tree trunks that makes it hard to notice. _____________________________________________________________ CAMERON LAVENDER GARDEN Latest addition to Cameron Highlands, Malaysia.
