Interaction with GuestsI will answer any questions you have before you stay and during your stay I am always on hand to help with any issues The NeighborhoodCanmore is a haven nestled in Alberta's Bow Valley beneath the mountain ranges of the Canadian Rockies, located one hour west of Calgary, with the Banff National Park lying to the west and north of the town. Established as a humble mining town in 1884, Canmore first came to the world's attention in 1988 when it played host to the cross-country ski and biathlon components of the Calgary Winter Olympics. Since then the town has gone from strength to strength, establishing itself as the perfect base from which to explore the Canadian Rockies. Despite its recent growth, Canmore has maintained its identity as a Canadian mountain village, surrounded by wild land areas abundant with wildlife, lending themselves perfectly to any number of recreational pursuits. Inescapable in Canmore, the Canadian Rockies represent an awe-inspiring and constant presence: no matter where you stand, the crowned peaks of the Three Sisters and the jagged spires of Banff National Park tower majestically over you. It is a magnificent sight which, once seen, you will carry with you always. The only downside to visiting Canmore is that you will never want to go home!. Getting Around Banff is about 25km away, regular buses go from Canmore to Banff. A car recommended if visiting ski hills. Everything in Canmore can be easily walked to from the condo. Other Things to NoteThe top activities for you to enjoy on your visit to the Bow Valley Skiing The 1988 Winter Olympic Games left behind a lot to offer cross-country and downhill skiers. The Canmore Nordic Centre has 60km (37 miles) of cross-country trails and was refurbished for the 2005 World Cup. Many downhill skiing sites are within an hour from town, including Nakiska and Fortress in Kananskis, as well as the three resorts of the Banff National Park. Canmore Winter Festival Celebrate the cold at this annual January event that offers ice carving contests, concert performances and a curling bonspiel. Ice Fishing After a walk across the frozen stillness of Spray Lake, fish for two- to twenty-pound trout in the comfort of a heated cabin. Local tour operators will provide licenses, equipment, guides and even underwater cameras for spying beneath the ice! Dog Sledding Snuggle into blankets on your sled as baying huskies speed you across the snowy landscape. Sledding companies in town can arrange a winter experience you'll never forget. Ice Climbing Get a thrill at the Ice Climbing Festival in March, whether you're watching experts scale a treacherous frozen waterfall or learning the skills yourself at one of the festival clinics. Rock Climbing The Canmore area is famous for some of the best climbing in the Rockies. Mount Yamnuska is a popular spot and a good place for lessons, but climbers should also seek out routes at Grotto Canyon, Chinaman's (Ha Ling) Peak and Cougar Creek. Hiking Trails around town take you through canyons, up to glacial lakes, around historic buildings and even to the site of ancient pictographs. Take a camera in case you spot wildlife! Golf What's better than a day spent golfing beneath the Canadian Rockies? Within a five-minute drive from town you'll find a historic course built by volunteers, a resort designed by a renowned golf architect and an 18-hole course that incorporates rushing mountain creeks and restored mine entrances. Fishing The Bow River is a famous fly fishing spot for brook trout, and there's plenty of rainbow trout in Ghost Lake and Grotto Pond. Book a float tube or a heli-fishing excursion, or just pick up a license and go it alone. Mountain Biking Trails range from easy rides along the valley floor to challenging routes through the mountains. Routes at Goat Creek and Mount Sharp are well recommended and, in the summer, the Nordic Centre is a mountain biker's dream.

Guest AccessOnce you have book I will send a booking confirmation that contains the access codes for the condo The NeighborhoodCanmore is a haven nestled in Alberta's Bow Valley beneath the mountain ranges of the Canadian Rockies, located one hour west of Calgary, with the Banff National Park lying to the west and north of the town. It is a magnificent sight which, once seen, you will carry with you always. The only downside to visiting Canmore is that you will never want to go home! Getting AroundRegular buses from Canmore to Banff. Bus stop on the same road as the condo. As the condo is located just off Main Street on 8th Avenue everything in Canmore can be easily walked to from the condo, there are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops to choose from within a few meters. Other Things to NoteWhen in Canmore, explore some of the surrounding areas as well. You will really learn to appreciate the outdoor lifestyle the residents enjoy. If you did not drive to Canmore, rent a car in town for a day or two and take advantage of what the town has to offer. Here are some of the areas to check out: Built for the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games, the Canmore Nordic Centre is now a training site for Olympic athletes and a year-round playground for local families and sports lovers. After the complete upgrade in 2005, the Centre has strengthened its position as one of the world's top-level cross-country, biathlon and mountain bike destinations. It features well-lit, beautifully groomed cross-country trails for all levels and styles, more than 100 kilometres of mountain biking and hiking trails, and a Day Lodge with a café, fireplace, changing rooms, showers and lockers, plus equipment rentals in a separate building. The Day Lodge's banquet rooms, with unbeatable views from the vast windows, are very popular for weddings. Along the route to the Nordic Centre is Quarry Lake, the locals' favourite swimming area. With is views of Ha Ling Peak, Mount Lady MacDonald and the Rundle Mountain Range, the Quarry Lake Park is a popular location for outdoor weddings and picnics. The hiking paths and the off-leash dog area make this a great place for the entire family. Past the Nordic Centre, the road becomes a gravel road as you drive up the mountain to the trailhead for Ha Ling Peak. You will have driven halfway up the mountain by car, and you can hike the rest. It is a demanding but rewarding day hike. When you reach the top, you feel like you are in the sky with the panoramic view of the entire Bow Valley below you. Spray Lake is dammed above Canmore and the 55-mile (88-kilometre) lake reservoir is a playground in itself. The turquoise water draws parasailers and boaters in the summer and dogsledding tours in the winter. The Three Sisters area and the Stewart Creek Golf Course are built around abandoned coalmines and some of the shafts are still visible on the golf course. The Three Sisters area - named after the Three Sisters Mountains - is a large, fast growing development with beautiful condominiums and single-family residences. The area has great hiking trails as well. The campground's sites by the Bow River are favoured because they make you feel as if you were deep in the woods when, in fact, you are just minutes from the TransCanada Highway. This is also a safe place to put a canoe on the Bow River and paddle all the way to Exshaw. The Silver Tip area is another gorgeous, fast-growing, high-end residential area that features magnificent residences plus great dining and event facilities. The spectacular 18-hole Silver Tip Golf Course features GPS-equipped golf carts and 185-meter (600 foot) elevation change. Close to Silver Tip Village is the old pioneer Cemetery with some amazing Hoodoos - pillars of glacial rock left standing after erosion - towering over it. Nearby, the Cougar Creek hiking and biking trails are worth checking out, as is the new BMX (bicycle motocross) track. When you head back to the downtown Canmore area, do not miss the wonderful Bow River Pedestrian Bridge converted from a railway bridge. Paths on both sides of the turquoise Bow River are perfect for a stroll, with benches to relax on during or after a hearty walk or run. The North West Mounted Police Barracks is one of downtown's many historical sites. The park beside it is a popular spot for summer events such as Art in the Park. The boardwalk leads to the marshes of Policeman's Creek and additional trails. The Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre is small, but offers a glimpse into the railway and mining history of the area. Check the gift shop for unusual souvenirs.

There is a full bathroom upstairs that you are also welcome to use. We have a deck, BBQ and backyard. Our yard borders a trail where you can bike or walk to town, to the river or connect to the legacy trail that you can take all the way to Banff. Canmore is a quiet alternative to Banff (and more beautiful if you ask me). Banff is 20Km from Canmore. You can drive, ride your bike or take the bus. Canmore offers exceptional mountain biking, climbing, hiking, fishing, cross country skiing, is close to world class down hill skiing, kayaking and so much more. We have amazing restaurants and cafes. Guest AccessFull use of the kitchen and living area including the deck and yard, BBQ and internet. Guide Books & Maps Interaction with GuestsWe will do our best to be home to great you and help you get your bearings in the Bow Valley. We will be happy to recommend places to go and things to do. Please note that we are a family. Your room is private from us but the house can be busy. The NeighborhoodWe are a 10 minute walk from downtown Canmore. You can choose to take a trail by a creek or the side walk. Our backyard borders a trail that will take you to the bow river or connect with other trails. Getting AroundWe are 1 block from a Roam bus stop that goes between Canmore and Banff. The grocery store is about a 10 minute walk. Other Things to NoteWe want to be as upfront as possible about what to expect so here are some of the possible negative point of staying at our house. As you can see from our reviews most people love staying here despite the quarks of the house but a few have had some small complaints. We are constantly learning and striving to provide an enjoyable stay for our guests. Things you should know before you book... Sound travels easily through the house. The house is older and walls are thin. Your room shares a wall with our housemates room. We do our best to be respectful of noise. We are generally not up late or really early. We have a baby and we have a 2 year old! We usually get between 7:30 and 9am. Neither kid usually cries during the night but anything is possible. When they are awake they can be loud. Not much we can do about that. The downstairs can be cold (especially in the winter). In your room there is a space heater that heats the room easily and there are ample blankets. The bathroom has tile floors but we have mats down for foot comfort. If you felt the need, you could move the heater into the bathroom so the room was warm after a shower. The upstairs of our house can at times be a bit messy. Usually due to baby toys and the hustle and bustle of a busy family. I make a point of making things tidy and the kitchen fully cleaned at the end of each night and do some general cleaning throughout the day. Our roommate is a massage therapist and sometimes has clients to the house on her days off. The clients are mostly friends and of a more casual nature so you would not have to behave any differently than you would normally. She uses a space outside of her bedroom (this is usually midday when most guest are out exploring the mountains anyway) and there is a curtain to provide privacy for both you and her clients. Bonus is you may be able to book an appointment with her during your stay. She is am amazing therapist specializing in deep tissue, myofacial release, as well as relaxation massage. Like I said before, almost all of guest have loved staying with us. They love the family aspect. We are happy to include you into the family or leave you to do your own thing. If you are looking for more of a hotel experience this is not the place for you.

Easy Access: One thing that sets the Canadian Rockies apart from other mountain destinations is how little effort it takes to reach spectacular scenery. Truly stunning vistas that may require hours of hiking in other parks are right on the highway, accessible from the window of your car! Indeed, some of these drives (including the Icefields Parkway drive) are rated as some of the most scenic in the world... Summer Activities: Summer activities are seemingly endless: golfing, whitewater rafting, fishing, horseback riding, wildlife-watching, hiking, heli-hiking, ATV expeditions, caving, rock climbing, mountain-biking and more. Bicycling magazine named the Canmore area as one of 'The 50 Best Trips on Our Planet.' Suffice to say, accolades and activities abound... Drive to Columbia Glacier, the largest non-polar ice-cap in the world, hop on a snocoach and walk on the face of the glacier! Or, for a taste of the Wild West, hop on a wagon picnic excursion or saddle up a horse. Hikers will find thousands of miles of maintained trails. Try heli-hiking, and have a helicopter drop you off at the top of a remote peak, pick you up at the bottom, after you take a leisurely hike down! And then there is golf. With 6 world-class golf courses and 135 spectacular holes nearby, Canmore is a golfer's mecca. Three courses (Stewart Creek, Silvertip and Canmore Golf & Curling Club) are within a few minutes' drive... Winter Activities: Winter is romantic and simply magical. Ice-skate, snowshoe, snowmobile, dog-sled, ice-fish, ski and more, in postcard-perfect surroundings! Follow the tracks of wolves and learn the hunting patterns of owls in snowshoe excursions. Take guided ice walks through Johnston and Grotto Canyons. Experience the world of suspended waterfalls and massive blue ice pillars, frozen in time. Go on a guided ice-fishing expedition in the toasty warmth of heated huts! Enjoy sleigh rides, or let a team of huskies whisk you through breathtaking scenery on dogsleds. Snowmobile through the back roads and wilderness areas. Or soar over the stunning landscapes of the Continental Divide in a helicopter! Then there's world class skiing and snowboarding on dry champagne powder. Banff/Lake Louise was recently voted 'Best Ski Resort of the World' by the London Daily Telegraph! Five downhill ski areas are within easy reach of Birch Haven, with Norquay, Sunshine and Nakiska within a 15-30 minute drive. Getting AroundAlthough you can get by without a car (there are shuttles, buses etc), we highly recommend a car. That is because this is one part of the world where driving is sheer pleasure. Every bend is a new awesome vista! We provide heated underground, secured parking for 1 car. Additional cars can park in visitor parking areas outdoors. Other Things to NoteWHEN COMPARISON SHOPPING, BE SURE TO CONSIDER THIS: Birch Haven is LEGALLY ZONED for short-term tourist rentals. Unfortunately, this is not the case for the vast majority of properties in Canmore. Don't risk losing your payments or disrupting your vacation due to crackdowns on illegally-operated properties.

The SpaceOur suite is clean and cozy, located on the ground level of our home looking into the forest in our backyard. Plenty of squirrels, crows, and the occasional elk come through. Our street has one of the best views in town and our neighbourhood is far enough from downtown to really feel like you're a Rocky Mountain local, but close enough that you can enjoy some of the best dining in the Bow Valley. We have done our best to create an inviting space for you. Photos of my travels and other art pieces grace the walls and the furniture is mid-century modern with a splash of Swedish modern. We live upstairs so are available for assistance with suggestions for hiking trails or romantic restaurants or grabbing an extra blanket on a chilly night. We're all about getting out and enjoying the mountains so there is no TV in the suite. We don't even have one upstairs. Lots of books and DVD's are available for sleepy nights. The kitchenette includes a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and kettle. Organic tea and locally roasted coffee supplied. There is no sink but we've supplied a wash basin (to fill up in the bathroom), lots of eco-friendly dish soap and hand-crocheted dish cloths made by my mom. The bathroom has a shower, fresh towels, hair dryer and locally-made organic hand soap. For guests with young children we have a Pack 'n Play for you to use. Other baby gear may be available, just let us know what you need. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the suite through a private entrance in our garage. Instructions will be sent once reservation is confirmed. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to help our guests out with advice and suggestions to best enjoy their vacation, we're just a knock on the front door away. Please come up and see us if there's anything you need or send us an email through. This self-contained suite offers you privacy and independence, if that's what you're after. The NeighborhoodWe have one of the best views of The Bow Valley from our house, and access to Rocky Mountains adventures no matter what the season, within a few minutes: hiking, biking, climbing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and more. We are a 5-minute drive or a 30-minute, but very beautiful, walk to downtown Canmore . Our neighborhood is kid-friendly, with many playgrounds within walking distance. It is a perfect location to feel like a local and get a taste of what it feels like to live in the mountains. We love our neighborhood. The Summit Cafe is a 10-minute walk and great for early breakfast or lazy lunch. Cougar Creek has clear trails year round that provide spectacular views and a varying degree of exertion depending on the direction. From here you can access a variety of alpine trails by mountain bike or by foot. Getting AroundWe are a 5-minute drive to downtown Canmore but within walking distance there are plenty of amenities right in our neighbourhood - a cafe, pub, deli, pizza, wine shop and convenience store. Best of all, hiking and biking right out our door. Banff National Park is a 20-minute drive west, and Calgary is 1- hour east. World-class downhill skiing is easily accessed within 1.5 hours drive from our suite: Nakiska 45 minutes Mount Norquay 45 minutes Sunshine Village 50 minutes Lake Louise 1.5 hours Kicking Horse Resort, Golden, BC 2 hours There is bus service that runs between Banff and Canmore with the closest stop about a 20-minute walk from our house. There is bus service, The Airporter, between the Calgary International Airport and Canmore. Their schedule and fees can be found online. Other Things to NoteWe have kids who are very happy and quiet most of the time. They get up early, and in case you don't, we've supplied ear plugs. As parents we are very happy to host other families, especially those with babies, as we get it!

The SpaceBeautiful Bachelor walkout to the tranquility of the forest! Hardwood floors, dishwasher, soaker tub. Practically on the hiking and mountain bike trails. This is a fully self contained suite, on the ground floor of my home. Your residence has a full private kitchen, livingroom, bathroom, soaker tub, outdoor seating area and private entrance. While you are here, the full forested yard is yours to enjoy. I live in the top 2 floors of the house so am available if you would like any first hand local knowledge or if privacy is what you desire, you will hardly see me at all. ;-) Just 100km (62miles) from Calgary. Canmore is a beautiful community situated just outside the Banff National Park gates and beside Kananaskis Provincial Park (Kananaskis was where the film Broke Back Mountain was filmed.) 20 km bike ride along either mountain bike trails or the new paved bike path will bring you to the famous tourist town of Banff which is well renown for it's Arts program. Hiking, Rockclimbing, and mountain biking are what the locals love to do around here in the summer. We have a small but picturesque quarry lake to cool off in should the temperatures soar. If you love to mountain bike Canmore is a destination town. Being that it is outside of park gates XC mountain biking is not limited as it is within the parks. There are great Downhill trails in nearby Kananaskis Country. Canmore has 3 Golf Courses. World class Silvertip and Stewart Creek as well as our own Canmore Golf Club. You are smack dab in the mountains at an elevation of 4,500 feel. Great climbing, scrambling and hiking routes are everywhere around you. Winter In Canmore! If you decide to visit in the winter, XC skiing and iceclimbing are the main outdoor activites in Canmore. The world class Canmore Nordic Centre is an destination for Cross country ski enthusiasts. We host international events so the runs are always track set and groomed for skate skiing. We even have a night loop open and snow making should the snow gods be stingy that year. If Downhill is more your passion, just outiside of this picturesque town, you have a choice of 5 different local ski resorts for Downhill skiing and snowboarding . The Canadian Rockies is famous for super dry powder and for Backcountry enthusiasts, ski touring is abundant as Canmore is surrounded on all sides by parks. Winter or summer, Come check out the beautiful Canadian Rockies! Guest AccessThe entire suite which is on the ground floor with private access. We live upstairs. Interaction with GuestsI will base my interaction on your needs. I am available mostly in the evenings as I work during the day. I can help you find the hidden gems and stay away from the overly expensive and crowded spots. Should you want privacy, you will hardly know I am there. The NeighborhoodI live in a quiet neighbourhood on the sunny side of Canmore. There is a restaurant pub (the iron goat) and a pizza take out (it's new and I can't remember the name) a convenience store/bakery (Fergies) and a breakfast lunch spot (the summit cafe) all within walking distance up the hill. If you prefer downhill, you can walk to La Belle Patate (a fast food eatery) and try Canada's most famous fast food "Poutine". (Not worth eating anything else there since the hamburgers etc are really not very good). Parking on my street can be a nightmare but I have made a small space in my driveway for your car. Sorry big vehicle drivers it's a bit of a squish but we can work it out when you arrive. Getting AroundTo explore the area, you will definitely need a car. The Parks in the area are very spread out over hundreds of km and accessible by vehicle. Taxis are very expensive and their is only a bus between Banff townsite and Canmore townsite. Bus tours can be booked and have pickups in Banff and Canmore however, they go to the same places you can access with a car at your own pace and without the hassle of a large group dynamic. Rent your car at the airport is best and most convenient. The airport shuttle to and from Canmore is expensive and does not operate 24 hours a day. BY CAR: Banff national park gates are 5 minutes from Canmore. Banff townsite is 20 minutes. My home is a 5 minute drive to downtown Canmore Lake Louise is a 60 minute drive Johnston Canyon is a 30 minute 40 minute drive all the drives are scenic scenic scenic so you wont mind being in your car. BY FOOT: Canmore townsite is a 30-40 minute walk from my home. You can walk to banff on the goat creek trail or the Banff-Canmore Legacy trail. 20 KM each way. This would be an easy hike, just long and in my opinion there are many better hikes, plus as you will see in the next section this trail is full of bikers. The best views in the park are by hiking. Ask me which ones will be less crowded as the most reviewed hikes are often wall to wall people and I know of equally beautiful but less crowded options. If you don't like to hike, the Banff Gondola is good too, not too expensive and you get great views. BY BIKE (my favourite): There are bike trails between Canmore and Banff. The legacy trail is paved and popular Very scenic although it runs the side of the #1 highway so can be a bit noisy. 20 km to Banff. The Goat Creek trail is a dirt road from Canmore to Banff (also 20 km) Very scenic but you want to be comfortable on a bike as it is eroded and loose. A mountain bike is needed and bring bear spray and water. BY BUS The roam bus goes on the hour between Canmore and Banff townsites. It is 5$ each way. You can bike or hike to Banff and then take the roam bus back with your bike as there are bike racks on the bus. The roam bus is not a viable option at night as the last trip to Canmore is a 9pm. Bus tours can be booked and have pickups in Banff and Canmore however, they go to the same places you can access with a car at your own pace and without the hassle of a large group dynamic. BY BOAT: there is a boat tour of Lake Minnewanka. I did it this summer. It was a pleasant boat cruise up the lake, pricy and can be cold depending on the weather. I think save your money on this one. Most of the best views you can hike to and if you are not a hiker, there are still great views from the road view point stops. The Banff Gondola is good too, not too expensive and you get great views. BY SEA: just kidding, there is nothing by sea. ;-) Other Things to NoteI have one container of bear spray that I give to guests to use. Don't worry no one has had to use it. ;-)
