The SpaceQuiet solitude and natural beauty in a comfortable, well equipped cabin. Escape your hectic daily routines. Get in touch with your own rhythms and values. Stay at the cabin, read, hike the mountains or Pisgah Creek, or head off to explore the surroundings: The place is magically beautiful in spring and fall and quite a wonder in summer as well. It's a great place from which to explore the Smokies; a haven for writing, reading, painting, and all outdoor sports. This land was purchased by our grandfather, Jacob Raphaelson, in the 1940s. He had the cabin built and it has stayed in the family -- going to his two daughters, Virginia and Selma, and then to five siblings, children of Virginia and Ben. Within 15-20 minutes from your cabin you will find: • Blue Ridge Parkway. Cradle of Forestry Nature Center. • Waynesville: art galleries, restaurants, antique stores, theater • Springdale Golf Club • Music Festivals (Brevard, Waynesville) • Shining Rock Wilderness: hiking, swimming, sliding Within 45 minutes: • Biltmore House • Grove Park Spa • Asheville, with its art galleries, book stores, fine restaurants, mountain charm • Cherokee Indian Reservation and Museum • Cataloochee Ski Area Guest AccessGuests will have the full 3 b.r. cabin plus a well-equipped kitchen. Linens are provided. Beds (two queen, one full, one youth) are all made up for arrival; upon departing, linens should be washed and dried (they can be left in the dryer or folded on top). Plank across creek and back deck near creek provide ideal places for out-of-door cooking and for meals. Interaction with GuestsWe are not on the premises but are available by phone or email. The SpaceOur farm, our home, is serene and private. We are 20 minutes from downtown Asheville. The barn room is up 8 steps over the packing house where we prepare and pack vegetables for market. Most of the upstairs of the packing house is the farm's 'attic' with the Barn Room as a separate 11x17 space that is furnished with full bed/linens, glider chair/ottoman, TV w/DVDs, etc. It was built for root vegetable storage before being converted to a cozy bedroom. Since we have cut back on planting root vegetables, we are able to share this cheery, private room with airBnB guests. It is about 25 yards to the Bathrooms/Showers or to the Kitchen. The Kitchen has stove, fridge, nuker, toaster, espresso-like coffee maker; pots, pans, dishes, and flatware, etc. By staying here, rest assured you are in fact helping a small farm survive year to year and we are grateful to all of you. Guest AccessGuests are welcome and encouraged to walk all 11 acres of our organic farm, including the woodlot, the creek, and the vegetable fields. Access to the greenhouses is restricted due to the possibility of damaging the crops and the restrictions of certification. Your room completely private. The farm is shared with other guests and farm family. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to include you in our farm life if we can, or leave you alone to enjoy the privacy. Your room completely private. The farm is shared with other guests and farm family. The NeighborhoodPrivate secluded 11 acre farm in Hominy Valley, a small valley named after the corn crops that were grown by the indigenous population until the late 1600's. The farm is bordered by Beaverdam creek w/native trout. Splendid views. Serenity is our biggest asset. We have nearly 18 years experience in local food and farmer's markets and we are proud that many our best local restaurants purchase their produce from us. While we are secluded and in a country setting, we are close to Asheville... Approximately 15 minutes to downtown Asheville; 5 minutes to grocery stores and other necessities; 10-15 minutes to Interstates 40 and 26; and 20 minutes to the airport. Getting AroundYou will need a car. Taxis and Uber are available. Other Things to NotePlease treat your space and any areas you use with the respect you would as a guest at your distant aunt who might leave you money if she likes you. We call dirt, soil here. Unfortunately, it comes in buildings despite best efforts.

The "Apple Orchard Riverfront Cottage" Just a quick block off the Interstate and not too far from Asheville you soon find yourself traveling quietly through an apple orchard on a quaint narrow mountain road which suddenly explodes into a riverfront vista complete with rushing rapids right in the front yard of a truly lovely cottage surrounded by plant pots filled with vegetation and glorious blossoming flowers, weather permitting. You're smiling and haven't even parked the car yet. Off to the right you will see the challenge of a bright new shuffleboard court (final planning stage) beckoning some good old family competition later, and think what a nice way to bring everyone together. To enhance the experience you find an exterior deck right off the living room that affords a more leisurely opportunity to sit and reflect on this lovely river view while the sounds of rushing waters subtlety background your relaxed conversation with loved ones. As you eventually return inside to a colorful gathering room filled with endless hardwood floors and luscious warm room colors you enjoy the warmth of a flickering fire in a room filled with family and friends. You're now in the "Apple Orchard Riverfront Cottage". Inside you soon discover three large bedrooms with amazingly comfortable beds and two beautiful spotless bathrooms, complete with hardwood floors. Throughout the cottage wonderful eclectic furnishings hand selected by caring, keen eyes continue to intrigue and peak both your interest and curiosity. Your exploration soon finds a wonderfully bright and cheerful, newly-remodeled kitchen well equipped and filled with just about any type of gadgetry required to prepare the tastiest hors d'oeuvres or a gourmet meal for eight. Nothing has been left to wishful thinking. A beautiful kitchen island topped in mountain hardwood beckons you to sit, sip coffee or open a bottle of wine to quietly linger and savior this moment. No kids for a moment, just the two of you. And as you sit and sip, be it coffee or wine, to ponder the day's potential; you realize how many wonderful opportunities await you here in the Great Smoky Mountains. You may decide to take a long leisurely walk right here at home along almost a mile of river frontage and ending in the apple orchards or bee hive stands where you might buy apples, peaches and honey. Perhaps you decide a quick drive into Asheville for a leisurely day of exploring the Biltmore or The Grove Park Inn, or all the neat restaurants and shops. For those more inclined to physical activity you might find yourself planning on rafting the rapids or tubing right in front of your cottage or zip lining the tree canopies near Asheville, or all the above. In fall, you may want to hike the mountain trails to view the vivid fall colors, knowing it's a must see. And later in the year you may plan on the challenge of skiing the slopes of Cataloochee, just minutes away. Regardless of your choice of so many varied things to do and see, one thing is truly certain: you ultimately will enjoy coming home again and again to the warmth and caring found nestled in your lovely home away from home, the "Apple Orchard Riverfront Cottage".
