      The SpaceMy house is a 'classic kiwi crib'. It is cute, cosy, and full of character. The house is not a big house but should have everything you require. Floors in the living areas are tiled and bedrooms are carpeted. The house can be heated by a wood burner fireplace and/or the heat pump. There is a deck with outdoor furniture and BBQ. The property is surrounded by lots of native trees Guest AccessGuests will have access to entire house and property, but will not have access to garage and shed. Guests have access to Wifi. Interaction with GuestsI will endeavour to welcome you, show and tell you everything you need to know about the property when you check in. If I cannot be there to meet you I will come to introduce myself and ensure everything is satisfactory as soon as I can. After I have welcomed you to the house I will leave the property and let you enjoy your stay. I may also check in to ensure that everything was okay on the day of your departure. Generally I will not be on the property. However, should there be an issue I should be in the area and able to be contacted to resolve the issue. The NeighborhoodHarwood is located 23km from Dunedin City and is a 30 minute drive. Harwood is a unique small township located on the Otago Peninsula on the edge of the harbour. My house does not have a waterfront view, but it is just a 1-2 minute walk to the harbour mudflats. At low tide the mudflats make a great place to have a walk and at high tide is a great time to soak up the view, sighting seabirds, and often cruise ships. Harwood is a friendly and quiet neighbourhood. There is a park with picnic table and swing, slide and a see saw for children to enjoy. Harwood is a perfect location for a relaxing getaway or a base to be within close distance to access the many wildlife attractions the Otago Peninsula has to offer. Portobello is the closest township to Harwood, it is 4km away and has a store, cafe, restaurant, takeaways, and bar and bistro. Getting AroundThere is a bus service operating at least daily which will take you to the city of Dunedin. The bus stop is 100 meters from the property. There are more buses available by boarding from Portobello. There is off street parking. Other Things to NoteHarwood relies on rainwater so it would be appreciated if water is conserved as best as possible. If using BBQ please turn gas off when finished There are no service stations on the Peninsula so if you require petrol or diesel you need to fill up from Dunedin city.

      The Crib is a traditional Kiwi holiday home, hence the name (A bach or holiday home is called a crib in Otago). It has a gate in the hedge to the harbour bank where you can sit out and enjoy the peace and quiet and beautiful scenery, watch the bird-life, or supervise the kids as they play. The sand flats go for miles at low tide. At high tide the water is shallow with no waves and just deep enough for an adult to enjoyably swim. The sun heats the sand at low tide and when the water comes in on a summer's day it's heated from both sides, making the water significantly warmer than at the local beaches. Star-gazers will love the sky on a clear night; it's magical. The Crib is only 30 minutes drive to the centre of Dunedin and less than an hour to Dunedin airport, but it is so peaceful you would think you were in the depths of the countryside. It is less than 5 minutes drive to Portobello, and about 15 minutes to the albatross colony. It is the perfect no-hassle base for exploring all the attractions of the Otago Peninsula and Dunedin. The Crib is well-equipped with electric blankets on all beds, and several forms of heating: heat pump (Air-conditioner), multi-fuel burner and an old coal range if you're really keen. Unlimited WiFi is now available. The beds have wool or alpaca duvets (new 2016) and there are plenty of extra blankets. The Crib is on rainwater tanks and grey water so there is definitely an old-fashioned feel to the place (The toilet is separate to the main house), but don't worry, modern comforts have been added. It is cosy and comfortable, and ready for visitors. Special conditions: *Guests are expected to leave the crib clean and tidy as found unless pay in advance for cleaning. *Smoking outside only *Mostly level, fenced section, but on banks of Otago harbour so proper supervision of small children is essential. *Camp bed andamp; foam mattress available, but only proper beds for 4 people. *Infants under 2 stay free in own porta-cot. Space in the master bedroom to set it up. *Holiday equipment: use at own risk. Extras: Cleaning (Optional, NZ$50.00 per stay); Linen (included);

There is a large organic garden with a mini orchard - you are welcome to help yourself to any fruit and vegetables in season. Relax in the sun on the large deck, hammock, or make yourself at home in any of the various outdoor sheds suitable for reading, writing, playing music, creating. The NeighborhoodOur house sits within the "town belt", overlooking Carey's Bay. Access is through a reserve and we always meet guests at the lookout and guide them down the rugged driveway to our private parking area. From the house there are various walking tracks. One takes you to down to Port Chalmers with its cafes, shops and galleries, another up into the countryside with spectacular Otago Harbour views. It is only 15 scenic kilometres from Dunedin and, in the other direction, great surf beaches like Warrington with its Hector dolphins and Aromoana with its penguins, seals and seabirds. Popular eating places include: the Historic Carey's Bay Pub and The Portsider in Port Chalmers. Visit New Zealand's tallest tree at the Orokanui Bird Sanctuary only a 7 minute drive on Blueskin Road. Charter a fishing boat in the harbour or go horse riding down the road. It's paradise at every turn. Getting AroundOur house is about a 45 minute drive from the airport. There are buses from central Dunedin to Port Chalmers if you're without a vehicle, but please note these run only every hour (not often at night) and there is a healthy walk at the end of your bus ride from Port Chalmers up the hill to our house through an isolated area.
