If you're not a fan of walking, there is a tram stop right outside the main entrance on LaTrobe St. Most importantly, all trams within the city grid are FREE. Just look out for the "FREE tram zone" signs. No problems hitching a cab or getting on a bus on LaTrobe or Russell St if you would like to head out of the city. If you plan to take a train, you're just a 5 minute walk away from the Melbourne Central station. If you drive, we do have 1 FREE secured parking slot available for you. If you happen to have more than 1 car, the nearest paid open parking lot is available at “REGAL PARKING” - 43 Mackenzie St which is just a minute walk away from us. Other Things to NoteThis is a private unit ALL TO YOURSELF and you WON'T be sharing this with any strangers during your stay.       Henrietta is a beautifully clever and spacious old girl, nested in the heart of Carlton, on the northern fringe of Melbourne’s Hoddle grid. Resting on a quiet laneway nearby Argyle Square, she enjoys the mouthwatering Italian delights of Lygon Street and its entertainment artery to the city. She wanders the nearby park sipping coffee from top baristas, venturing to Nova Cinema for an art house classic or just gets lost in the Trades Hall. She is ideal for couples with a kid or travelling dous and trios who need a central spot to spend the night. She is cosy and warm with plenty of natural light filling her up in the evening. If you’re looking for a central location, self-contained and surrounded by good food and entertainment, Henrietta is the girl for you. She has a kitchenette where you can prepare basic meals, a desk and chair for you to eat, work or play and a bathroom for well, you know. Everything in the apartment is yours to use including the cupboards!         The SpaceThe apartment is located on ground floor with access from the street. No lifts or stairs. The main bedroom has a queen size bed, the second room has a king single with a single pull out trundle. The living space has a small dining table, a couch and two arm chairs. The kitchen is small but all you need when you have the restaurant's of Melbourne and Carlton on your doorstep! A new oven and cooktop have been installed. The bathroom has a shower-over-bath, so not suited to those who would find getting into a tub difficult. There is a small, leafy courtyard off the second bedroom with a small tabke and chairs. Lovely to sit and have breakfast at! As we have a three year old, there is a small shelf with toys and books, as well as a small table and chairs. A stroller can be provided on request. Fast Wifi is provided. Car parking available if required. The NeighborhoodThis location is superb! Minutes from the city, close to Carlton, across from the Gardens, Royal Exhibition Building, Imax and Museum. Short walk to tram stops and Parliament Station. Carpet, real window that opens with security lock, roller blind. The home is a large 3 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with open plan kitchen/living and balcony. There are two Airbnb guest rooms in the 'guest wing' that share a central bathroom. Each room has a maximum one guest. It's a warm and welcoming space where you'll feel right at home. Guest AccessYou're welcome to use the kitchen, living, dining and balcony spaces during your stay. BATHROOM: The bathroom has a secure locking door and is located just outside your room - there is a sliding door between the "guest wing" and main apartment space which you are welcome to close for privacy - sometimes I'll close it in the early morning to prevent noise if I'm making breakfast, too - so there is no need to walk through the living space to get to the bathroom (it's very private). Visitors may occasionally use this bathroom and the host uses the laundry facilities in this bathroom a few times per week. The host has their own ensuite bathroom. INTERNET - Yes, WiFi. LAUNDRY - there is a washer/dryer in the bathroom you are welcome to use, it is very economical but takes a long time (4-5hrs) to finish a load, or there is a fabulous laundromat nearby (5min walk) with free Wi-fi, 1960s music and it's only 1hr to finish wash/dry cycle with huge new machines. I'll sometimes do a quick wash at home then use the laundromat's dryers because they are bigger and quicker. Interaction with GuestsThis is my 3 bedroom home and I live here, too. Generally I'm quite busy but I'm always happy to give you a hand finding anything you need! If I'm not home, you're welcome to call me, send an SMS or send a message via the Airbnb messaging system, I check all of these from time to time and will get back to you ASAP. The NeighborhoodCarlton is a vibrant inner-Melbourne community with a European flavour. Everything you need is on our doorstep: supermarket, bank, public transport (trams, buses), Post Office, Nova Cinema (my favourite!!), Readings bookstore, clothes/shoes shopping, cafes, bars, restaurants. We even have a 24hr convenience store across the road. Getting AroundEASY! We are so centrally located, its is very easy to get around. Bus stop is right out front to go into CBD (about 5min bus ride to corner Russell St & Lonsdale St, depending on traffic), 1min walk to bus that goes to Fitzroy/Collingwood (2-5mins depending on traffic). The bus lines are 250 (and 251, 252) that go down Rathdowne Street to the CBD, or the 200 (and 201, 207) that go down Lygon Street to the CBD. All of these buses when heading into the city go via Melbourne Central along Lonsdale Street (train station, shopping mall) and end on Queen Street. 8-10min walk to 96 tram on Nicholson Street that goes through CBD to St Kilda beach. 5min walk to #1 tram (to CBD/Federation Square/Arts Centre/South Melbourne beach) on corner Elgin & Lygon Streets, goes down Swanston Street through Bourke Street Mall. 5min walk to #8 tram on corner Elgin & Lygon Streets, goes down Swanston Street through Bourke Street Mall. 5-10min walk to Carlton Gardens, where the Melbourne Museum is (we are on the same street). Access to major train stations: Parliament Station 30min walk or take the (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) bus to corner Russell/Lonsdale St and walk 5mins; or take the bus one more stop to Swanston Street and use Melbourne Central Station; or take the #1 or #8 tram from corner Elgin & Lygon Streets to Flinders Street Station; or take the 96 tram from Nicholson Street to Southern Cross Station. 35min walk to Melbourne Zoo. 10min walk to Melbourne University grounds. You just need to decide where to begin and if your feeling overwhelmed you can duck down for breakfast on the ground floor cafe. The apartment is located on the 3rd floor via a spiral staircase on level 2 resulting in the hustle and bustle of Gertrude Street being left at the door.         The SpaceMedley Hall is a residential college of The University of Melbourne. What this means is that during the University academic year, our rooms are occupied by students. In the break times (Dec to mid Feb and July) our rooms are vacant and from $70 per night can live in one of these rooms and located perfectly and accessible by foot to all of Melbourne's favorite spots. Just around one corner is the bistro life of Carlton and The Melbourne Museum and the the University of Melbourne, and around the other are the Exhibition Gardens, the Central Business District, Chinatown, theatres and night life etc. The recent renovations and major building works at Medley Hall includes a lift to help shift between the fully renovated three levels of bedrooms (some doubles), a tv lounge room adjoined to a fully functional kitchen allowing you to cook your own food if you wish, and a modern and beautiful three story high glass atrium. The atrium ties the new with the old, a magnificent Victorian Italianate building, "Benvenuta", where the dining hall, formal lounge and music rooms are situated. Each room is heated and contains a desk, a long single bed or double bed and wardrobe space. Towels and linen are provided. Communal kitchenettes, showers and toilets, are on each floor. Coin operated laundry facilities are located on the ground floor for guest use and include driers but we also have hanging space for drying your clothes naturally on the roof top terrace, which also brings with it magnificent views of the city of Melbourne. It's literally whisper quite to hear birds tweeting in the morning as the apt is located to the rear of the block. I walk to Brunetti's in Carlton for breakfast & a coffee then stroll leisurely to the Victoria Markets for my fresh groceries. If hot, the Baths are 5 mins away too. RMIT campuses are all within mins walking distances away as well as st Vincent's private and Public Hospital and Eye Hospital. At lunch time I go to Soba and Sake for fresh handmade Soba in Liverpool street or the famous Pelligrini's for an Italian dish or granita. After that I get a macaroon at La Belle Miette in Collins Street then walk it off to Melbourne Central or QV for other dept store items. I pop into the State Library on Spencer street or get the free red tram to Docklands for other homewares or clothing. The free tram also takes me back to the apartment where I may prepare dinner then catch a comedy show down Hardware lane (email hidden) theatre show. Getting AroundAll Public transport is within less than 5 mins walk. Free red Tram Public transport Victoria trams - being in the centre of the city all trams start or end there, so it's real easy getting around. Bus stop is a few metres away. Tourist & Double decker bus is a few metres away opposite the gardens and the IMAX theatre. Closest railway station is Parliament Station about 5 mins walk.         The SpaceThe House is a solid bluestone cottage dating back to the 1850's. Large rooms and complete self-contained accommodation. Fully air-conditioned & In-slab hydronic heating- Cool in summer & warm in winter. Front door gives direct access to the street -Walk everywhere! The side doors access a huge shared Garden- The whole House is yours. The Garden is shared. I live next door and use the shared garden with two very friendly dogs - Squirt & Scruff. Melbourne's alternative side is full-force in Fitzroy, the inner-city mecca for all things cool and kooky. Wander along Brunswick Street, Fitzroy's main drag, for tonnes of vintage clothing stores and second-hand bookshops. Take your pick from an array of cafés and restaurants, like the famous vegetarian spot Vegie Bar, Transformers, or stop into Grub food van for coffee & seasonal treats. On weekends, make sure to visit the Rose Street Artists Market for a hand-crafted treasure. Just minutes north of the CBD on the 11 & 96 trams, discover the artsy heart of Melbourne. Trams 11 & 96 both have stops within three min walk of the Cottage. The City is an easy 15 minute stroll, Walk to Brunswick Street in 3 min, Gertrude Street in 5 min, Smith Street in 10 min, Lygon Street in 10 min, Car Parking is on the street only Overnight parking is very dificult- We cannot provide free parking permits- so leave your car at home.
