Date of stay 05/25/13 Review Submitted 05/28/13 Thank you so much Jae, Bob, Max & Peter. Thank you for making your place be available for us. Jason and I had such a great time and enjoyed your place so much. You have done such a great job with the construction of the casita, the construction, landscaping is just simply beautiful, well thought out so private. The little touches you have everywhere is well received and appreciated. Your bathroom, the tub and the shower is just simply out of this world. We loved it so much we want to do the same thing with our house. :) Jason and I decided that we are going to come back and make your place our usual and regular place for us whenever we are in Carmel. Thank you so much for everything and the bouquet of lavender, very thoughtful and so pretty. Thank you!!! Outstanding! Guest Anonymous Date of stay 05/11/13 Review Submitted 05/17/13 .A superb, extremely comfortable rental with all amenities. With sleek, well-designed accommodations (the lighting design is especially beautiful) and lovely garden surroundings that include a fine hot tub). It feels like a private, first-class resort. Our host, Jae, was thoughtful and pleasant and friendly, offering many special touches--a welcoming fruit basket and fresh flowers, a New York Times by the door every morning, and an enormous library of DVDs. Easy access by car to many beautiful places. Hands down, the best vacation rental in our experience--highly recommended Carmel Romantic Getaway Guest Will Date of stay 09/01/12 Review Submitted 09/04/12 .I thoroughly enjoyed my first stay at this extremely well-appointed and spacious one-bedroom apartment. I found the location to be perfect for day trips to Carmel and Monterrey. The owners could not have been nicer and saw to our every need. I really appreciated the beautiful design of the completely remodeled space including a modern kitchen. The fabulous bathroom was a highlight with a dramatic shower and soaking tub. The only downside was that an enormous deck and hot tub are under construction and weren't ready for this visit. I understand they will be done in a few weeks. I look forward to going back! A wonderful place for honeymooners and everybody else who loves to relax Guest Di Date of stay 06/18/11 Review Submitted 07/29/11 .We were the third people to profit from this competely new and very luxiourus renovated appartment. It was like a dream. The last 5 days from our honeymoon we enjoyed there. The hosts were enormous generous with us. We could use even their own swimmingpool, had barbeque with them and just a great time. THANKS A LOT! we can highly recommend this place. The place is also accecible by bike or public transport. We had no car just our bikes with us. Date of Stay January 3, 2011 Helpful votes:1/1. I travel quite a bit and I am always looking for a quiet and comfortable place to stay. I heard about this place from a friend and decided to give it a try. It was even better than I had hoped; the owners have gone to great lengths to ensure that their guests feel comfortable and pampered, and the setting is unbeatable – the pictures on (website hidden) really don't do it justice. It is the best place I have stayed in the Carmel area. I would highly recommend this property to any couple seeking a romantic retreat or just want a fantastic get away. . . .. . . . . . . .

As we position ourselves to become a traditional Bed & Breakfast, we include, with your stay, a European style country breakfast. We ask that you refrain from eating in your room and/or living room/office space, and use the multiple outdoor areas or the dining room, designed for your dining comfort. We provide dinnerware and utensils for those dining from our menu only. Please feel free to bring your own wine or beer as there is refrigerator space for medications, wine and beer only. While we appreciate those that need to travel with coolers and prepare your own meals while traveling, we kindly suggest that this may not be the venue for you. The SpaceWe are located deep in Carmel Valley on a very windy, narrow and steep country road--some call it harrowing but worth the drive. The property has a small cluster of mountain cabins built in the 1920s as a summer retreat for a Carmel Highlands family. Nestled under old oaks, the studio apartment is tucked at the back of the main cabin, an overlooks the Carmel River. The main cabin, built in 1929, has two other apartments, all of which have their own entrances. The studio shares one wall with the one bedroom apartment. Included in the studio is a kitchenette stocked with basic utensils for cooking and baking, allowing you to stay in and enjoy the peace and quiet of a retreat atmosphere. There is a small apartment sized refrigerator located next to the kitchen in the bathroom. The kitchen is stocked with snacks (goat cheese, crackers, fruit--local/organic when available, nuts), basic breakfast items (coffee, teas, half and half, juice, sugar, oatmeal), cooking supplies (olive oil, vinegar, mustard, spices, local/organic onions and garlic) and a bottle of local wine. There is one full-size bed and a futon chair that makes into a twin bed. The bathroom has a full-size claw foot bathtub, perfect for steamy relaxation. The deck over looks the Carmel River, which runs year-round. CHILDREN: The property is not suited for young children. PETS: Dogs are allowed on a case by case basis. No cats and no puppies! Dogs must be over a year old, well behaved, up to date with shots, and have their own bedding and towels (no muddy paws on the white towels, please). **Summertime notes: First, it's usually fairly hot here--you can swim in either the river or in our river-water filled swimming pool. Second, It would be good to bring Off! or equivalent bug spray for mosquitoes and gnats. Last, if you plan on doing any hiking make certain you bring Technu for poison oak. ** Guest AccessTake a five minute stroll to the Lower Meadow which is covered by a solid canopy of trees and bordered by the river. There is an outdoor kitchen under construction, a bocci ball court and access to the river. The Lower Meadow is also available for group camp-outs or small group events, if you are interested. Interaction with GuestsWe're only there if guests need us, otherwise guests are left alone to enjoy the peace and solitude. The NeighborhoodThe Studio is located in a small cluster of cabins. There are some vegetable gardens and minimal landscaping. For returning visitors: 10/10/16-- General Store, located one mile inland, served it's last Monday night dinner. If you search for a similar experience, try Lokal in the Village. Getting AroundDriving note: If you are not used to narrow, windy country roads, the drive can be a bit harrowing, especially the last six miles--it's a bit like driving the Scottish Highlands, but on the right side of the road. Expect a 45 minute drive from Highway 1, a distance of 21 miles, for the first time out. The drive to the Village takes 15 to 20 minutes; the last 6 miles can take 20 to 25. Cachagua Road is paved, but it is steep and windy--take your time driving it! And please do pull over to let speedy locals pass! ALTERNATE ROUTE: If you or any of your passengers are prone to car sickness or hate cliffs, then take the alternate route. It takes a bit longer but is straighter and much flatter. Instead of taking Cachagua Road from Carmel Valley road, take Tassajara Road, which is further east. Turn inland onto Tassajara Road. You'll cross a small bridge--Cachagua Road is just past it. Turn right and drive in around eight miles. We are 1/4 mi past Nasan Road on the left at the bamboo fence. Other Things to NoteThe Studio apartment is part of a complex of old summer cabins. The Studio is in the main cabin and shares a wall with the 1929 Charles Greene Cabin Apartment. There is a separate cabin along the cliff next to the studio. The grounds are not pristine in any sense of the word! We do our best, but we have finite time--this is a lot of land with 100 year old buildings; we are busy making sure things are working properly. If you are looking for maintained lawns and gardens or a park-like surrounding, then this is most definitely not the place for you. OUT IN THE BOONDOCKS: This property is in a rural setting, with wild animals, an unpredictable river and, well, nature. Please conduct yourselves wisely. There are no lifeguards, and no camp rangers.

The SpaceOur quiet, peaceful, and secluded guest house lies less than 1/4 mile above Bernardus Lodge (approx 10 miles from Carmel). It shares no direct sight lines with any neighboring structures. The guest house is spacious yet cozy for two people at approximately 600 square feet. The bedroom is separate from the open-plan living room w/ dining table and kitchenette. It has beautiful views onto Garland Ranch Park and Garzas Canyon. Scan the valley for soaring hawks, turkey vultures, and many other bird species. Visits from black-tail deer are quite frequent. Bask in all day sun from the south-facing panorama deck view. The guest house is minutes from Leguna Seca (5), Monterey (15-20), Pacific Grove (25), Garland Park (2), Wine Tasting and Carmel-by-the-Sea (10-15). It is approximately 45 minutes to Big Sur. Enjoy all the Monterey Peninsula has to offer or just relax and rest in the sun, fresh air, and gorgeous views from the deck! The guest house was completely remodeled in 2006. We constantly try to improve the guest experience. We look forward to hearing from you! Guest AccessPlease make yourself at home! The guest house is all yours :) Interaction with GuestsMy parents live in the main house. They will stay out of your way but are very friendly and helpful if you need anything. The NeighborhoodThe guest house is in a private neighborhood. Although it is close to lots of amenities you will feel as if you're perched above the valley in your own special place. Other Things to NoteThe guest house is very private - it will be unlocked with keys on the entry table when you arrive. The hair dryer should be in the drawer underneath the sink and the iron should be on shelf in the closet. The kitchenette has a basic supply of cooking utensils, pots & pans but if you need anything else for your culinary adventures my parents would be happy to provide it. Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime or during your stay!

The SpaceThe Charles Green apartment is in the main cabin. The main cabin has three units. The Charles Green apartment is a one bedroom apartment located between two studio apartments. The living room with an open ceiling, board and bat walls & wood floor, has a cozy couch in front of the stone fireplace & wood stove. There is one double size bed in the bedroom. It has a super firm mattress with a feather bed on top--quite comfy. It's an antique rope bed and very high off the ground. There is a skylight above the over-sized claw-foot bathtub, allowing for great soaks and gazing at the sky and branches of the ancient oak over-head. The kitchen has a vintage gas stove, small refrigerator, and supplies for cooking and baking. The stove is fine for roasting, but very pesky with over heating and not recommended for baking! Guest AccessAccess to the river is a short walk past the other cabins and seasonally operating swimming pool to the lower section of the property. Enjoy swimming in the summer, and river drama in the winter. There is also a bocci ball court, which is a bit rough around the edges & loads of fun! Interaction with GuestsWe are there for check-in and always available in person or via texting if guests have questions or if they need anything. Otherwise guests are on their own. The NeighborhoodWe are not in Big Sur-- it takes 45 minutes to drive to the coast. The Big Sur coastline begins just south of Carmel. Big Sur proper is another 45 minutes. The Village is ten miles (20 minute drive) towards the coast. It is only about three or four blocks long, but has at least 20 restaurants, and 15 tasting rooms. The Carmel Valley Village Market has a great butcher department and organic and conventional produce. For returning visitors: 10/10/16-- General Store served it's last Monday night dinner. On your first time out, expect a 45 minute drive from Highway 1, a distance of 21 miles. The drive from the Village to the cabin takes 20 to 30 minutes--the last 6 miles can take 20 to 25 minutes. Cachagua Road is paved, but it is narrow, steep and windy--take your time driving it! STAY ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE LANE and please do pull over to let speedy locals pass! Public transportation stops 10 miles away at the Village. Other Things to NoteWE ARE NOT NEAR BIG SUR! It takes 1.5 hours to drive from the cabin to Big Sur proper. OUT IN THE BOONDOCKS: This property is in a rural setting, with wild animals, an unpredictable river and, well, nature. Please conduct yourselves wisely. There are no lifeguards, and no camp rangers. PETS: Dogs are allowed on a case by case basis. No cats and no puppies! Dogs must be over a year old, well behaved, up to date with shots, and have their own bedding and towels (no muddy paws on the white towels, please). . WINTER: It can be very cold, especially during the evenings. The wood stove is the source of heat. We provide enough wood for two fires. Please pick up a box of wood on your way in. . SUMMER TIME: First, it's usually fairly hot here--you can swim in either the river or in our river-water filled swimming pool. Second, It would be good to bring Off! or equivalent bug spray for mosquitoes and gnats. Last, if you plan on doing any hiking make certain you bring Technu for poison oak. . The SpaceOne of the most dramatic views in Carmel Valley! 15 minutes from Hwy. 1. Close enough to access everything we love, and also on a quiet mountainside away from traffic. Super sunny (south facing) exposure with views for miles. A private bedroom and bathroom are available for you in my home. It has a queen bed, large closet and plenty of windows. You will have covered parking and use of the kitchen, washer and dryer, refrigerator, etc. My home is extremely private yet only 2 minutes from Carmel Valley Village where there is fine dining, 27 regional wine tasting rooms, shopping, etc. I am 15 minutes to Carmel-by-the-sea, 20 minutes to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, 30 minutes from the Big Sur area, and 20 minutes to Point Lobos. The benefits of staying in Carmel Valley are that we typically live free from the fog that can cool down the Monterey Bay very quickly. Stars are very bright here at night. Plenty of wildlife move through the property, which is full of mature oak trees. This is a special place that I am sure you will enjoy. Being a local to the area, I am happy to give suggestions on dining, private beaches, beautiful drives, and general tourist information. Guest AccessYou will have a private bedroom with bathroom and shower. I have a washing machine and dryer that I make available to you. (If you are doing a large amount of cleaning I ask that you provide your own laundry detergent). You are welcome to cook in my kitchen and use my stemware, pots and pans, etc. I have a covered parking garage for your vehicle and have basic tools if you need to do minor repairs or upkeep on bicycles, your vehicle, or whatnot. In the winter months, I can make a fire outside with the chiminea. It's a nice way to spend the evening under the stars. My home is very nice and also very casual - user friendly Interaction with GuestsI am very happy to share information about the area, or light the fire and share a glass of wine. If you seek privacy and less interaction, I can provide that as well... The NeighborhoodQuiet and secluded yet only 12 miles to the Pacific Coast Highway. Getting AroundThere is a bus stop 5 minutes walk from my house. $ 2.25 will get you to Carmel or Monterey. You can walk to the village in minutes...with some traffic for 100 yards... Other Things to NotePrior to traveling to my home, it is best to review your **itinerary** in the Air B & B site as this is where I have posted detailed driving instructions. As I am in the country a bit, my instructions will make your arrival a breeze.

The SpaceWe are offering to you a beautifully decorated private bedroom with an adjacent bathroom. We offer 2 FREE PASSES TO THE MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM (worth $80). We do require that you return us the passes when you are finished using them. We are in severe water shortage and take this very seriously in our home. We cycle as much water as we can on entire property. Please be advised of this. We are in walking distance to Carmel Valley Village and the most wonderful wineries on the Monterey Peninsula. We have 20 wine tasting venues, in a 10 minute walk away. Great restaurants and organic coffee shop real close called the Wild Goose. We do NOT allow dogs or infants, as it has been difficult in the past and would appreciate respecting our wishes. We do, however, allow additional guests, for a small fee of $20 for each guest (even if it is a child) per night. We are approximately 25 minute drive away from Monterey Bay Aquarium, Lover's Point in Pacific Grove, Carmel-by-the-Sea and Big Sur which has Esalen retreat, great art galleries and my favorite restaurant ever called DEETJEN'S (In Big Sur), another taste of our wonderful area in which we call "Paradise". We look forward to making your stay very warm and welcoming! Guest AccessMy guests are welcome to have minimum use of the frig, but the kitchen is completely off limits to guests as it is very small. We have street parking and lots of it. It is literally 10 steps from our front door. (Please do not park in our driveway), we have a car in the garage that I use regularly and can not have my garage blocked. Interaction with GuestsDepending on my extremely busy schedule, there will be contact when you come in and check out. But other than that, we want you to come and go as you please. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is very safe, quiet. Street parking in front of our home. We also have a 1 mile dirt loop track (Vintage airstrip) directly across the street for walks and marvelous views. There are some of the best restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula here in our Carmel Valley Village such as: Cafe Rustica, Cork Screw, and Will's Fargo, and a fun Pub/Bar called the Running Iron which serves lunch and dinner, as well as, a great breakfast. Getting AroundThere is a bus system that comes 1/4 mile from our home down to the main street which is Carmel Valley Road and is hourly to get into Carmel/Monterey and surrounding areas. Other Things to NoteWe are asking for quiet, and respectful guests to our beautiful home. We also have fire alarms and CO devises in our home for your protection. We enjoy helping guests figuring out what you want, while they are here and having the best time on their trip, also suggesting many other possibilities that only local's know about. We do have a "no shoes" in our home policy, so we suggest you bring slippers to walk around in, if you want. We have room rules, which include no eating or drinking in the room (except water), it is our private home, not a hotel. We have a saying in CA, ... "if it's yellow keep it mellow, if it's brown flush it down"…. As we are all in this water drought together, we just ask for you to TRY and conserve the most water possible. It is not MY rule, it is our state's request. We also ask that there are no perfume's or cologne's used in our home. My son and I are HIGHLY ALLERGIC to these smells and just ask that if you need to use them please put them on outside.
