We are happy to point out great places to eat nearby, or provide tourist advice for other parts of California. I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and my husband is from Napa. We've traveled extensively in California, the US, Europe, the Pacific Islands, China and South Africa. We know what we like when we travel, and we try to provide it for our guests. The NeighborhoodWe live in an older neighborhood with established trees near a creek and within walking distance of a riparian park with a bridal/hiking trail and (in the other direction) a more suburban park. If you want to go jogging, we can recommend a couple of nice trails. Sacramento is the home to California's state capitol, Old Sacramento, one of the nation's best railroad museums, the California's History and Women's museum, and the Crocker Art Museum. There is a small zoo, summer theater, and several municipal golf courses, including two near our home. There is a modern mutiplex a 5-minute drive down the road. Outdoor recreation enthusiasts can also take advantage of hiking, equestrian and biking trails in the nearby Sierra foothills and along the fantastic American River parkway; whitewater raft or kayak the Sacramento or American Rivers; or enjoy beautiful Lake Tahoe, two hours to the east. To the west, is the beautiful and world-famous Napa Valley (1 hr 10 minutes), San Francisco (2 hours), and the spectacular Marin and Sonoma coastlines. Sacramento is an ideal stopping place for those traveling from southern California to Oregon and Washington or from San Francisco to points east. Getting AroundWe are located 15 minutes to the northeast of downtown Sacramento (9 miles), near the junction of Interstate 80 and the Capitol City Freeway. We are a short drive from Interstate 5 and five miles north of Highway 50, making us easy to find and easy to get to. We live in an older neighborhood with established trees near a creek and within walking distance of a riparian park with a bridal/hiking trail and (in the other direction) a more suburban park. Airport Access. Our house is an easy 4 minute drive from the junction of I-80 and Business 80 freeways. We are about a 20 minute drive from Sacramento International Airport (SMF). By public transportation, it is about 90 minutes, with a connection every hour, and the last connection is at 8 pm. Transportation to/from Downtown Sacramento: By car it is a 15 minute drive to downtown. Using public transportation, we are less than 2 miles from the Watt and I-80 light rail station, where you can catch the #1 bus to the Norris Ave. stop about 1/2 mile from our home. It takes about 45 minutes, including the 10 minute walk from the bus stop to our home. It takes between 50 minutes and an hour to get to our house from the Greyhound Station on Richards Blvd, which is north of downtown. You can also take Uber for between $11-$17. The Megabus stop has moved from downtown. The new stop at the Q Street light rail station is a 45-minute easy bus ride (get on at the station and get off at the stop that is a 4 minute walk from our house). If you need to rent a car, there is also an Enterprise Rental Car agency open 7 am - 6 pm M-F and Saturday mornings that is an easy 1 mile walk from our house (and they will pick you up from here). If you don't have a car, the closest restaurants within walking distance are a sandwich shop (0.8 mile), a pizza place (0.9 mile), an "American" restaurant (1.2 miles), a Denny's coffee shop (1.2 miles), a Mexican Restaurant (1.4 miles), and an excellent vegetarian restaurant (1.5 miles). Some of these restaurants, as well as other local restaurants, will deliver. The closest large grocery store and shopping center is about 2 miles from our house. There are three different mini markets 0.8 - 0.9 miles from our house. Other Things to NoteWe want you to feel secure. We (not the bank) own our home so there is no risk your reservation will be canceled due to foreclosure or landlord issues. For your safety, every room in our home has a new, functioning carbon monoxide and smoke detector. Your room comes with a guest book that contains emergency information, including an evacuation plan. We have working fire extinguishers and a fire hydrant on our property. We are both trained in CPR and first aid. Our pool and pond are separately fenced, and there arevemergency instructions posted. Check-in time is normally 3 pm. If you need an earlier check in, please ask. We most likely can accommodate you, though your room may not be ready for you until after 12 noon, if we've had guests the night before. Check out is 11 am, but again, later check out may be available. You just need to be out in time for us to clean the room and change the linens if we have another guest arriving. In any case, you are welcome to leave your bags before your check in or after your check out. We have two friendly medium sized dogs that are part of our family and live In our house. The dogs have a dog door out to their separate run, through our laundry room,so you don't need to worry about dog mess if you use our yard. We have a nice walk-through wooden pet gate in our entry hall to keep the dogs from getting out or under foot while guests are arming and departing. We also have walk-through pet gates on each of the bedroom doors upstairs to keep our pets out of your room if you want to leave your bedroom door open. The gates are easy to use. Our animals are well behaved in the house, though they get excited for a minute or two when meeting new people (and when I come home). My border collie mix (Sophie) will protect you from wolves (she's very good at it -- we've never seen one around the house), and my bassett hound mix (Colin) will sit next to you if you let him. Continental breakfast is complementary. We usually set it out at night (milk and other perishables are in the refrigerator) before we go to bed. Help yourself to breakfast anytime in the morning. If you take out perishables, please return them to the refrigerator. If you would like to prepare your own meal, our kitchen is available for your use. If you would like a full breakfast on the weekends or need a bag lunch, we can provide that most of the time. Please see our blog site at (website hidden) for selections and pricing for full breakfast and lunch. Airbnb will block the URL to the blogsite until you have made a confirmed reservation, so if you can't see it and have questions before you book, let me know. Full breakfast and box lunch require 48 hrs additional notice (so I can shop) and may not be available if I have a conflict, so please make sure and ask. We accept cash, credit cards, or Paypal for any additional charges. If you use Paypal, please designate the payment for friends and family rather than goods and services so that I am not charged a fee that I will have to recover from you. There is an additional 3% charge for credit cards to cover bank fees.

The SpaceHere, the birds sing a pretty song and there is always music in the air. Fully furnished studio apartment with kitchenette, bathroom, cable and wi-fi. The space is ideal for 1 or 2 people and we DO NOT allow pets. Located in a typically quiet Carmichael neighborhood the apartment is a single upstairs studio unit above and a garage. The garage is currently used for non-vehicle storage. At this time, the garage is off limits and there are currently no onsite laundry facilities. We are willing to accommodate long term guests with laundry service for an additional fee. The apartment is accessed by a long narrow unpaved driveway. The unit has it's own parking spot to the left of the garage. The apartment also has it's own private entrance and a private fenced yard with a picnic table surrounded by trees. Be aware that the neighbor who shares a fence recently got chickens, another neighbor has goats and many neighbors have dogs so there are occasionally some animal noises. The kitchenette has a microwave, mini-refrigerator, toaster, hotplate, coffee-maker and sink, with dishware and cooking utensils also provided. Bathroom has newly updated toilet and shower. The only sink is in the kitchen area. The room also has a flat screen TV with basic cable, a blu-ray DVD player, wi-fi access, ample closet/storage space, a/c, heater, ceiling fan, a small dining table and a comfortable queen/full sized bed. We like privacy and assume our guests desire the same. We are close enough to provide guests with whatever they need, while also allowing space for a peaceful and relaxing stay. Our neighborhood is very quiet. We are located 2.4 miles from Ancil Hoffman Park/Golf Course and Nature Center, 5 miles from Arden Fair Mall/Cal Expo, 11 miles from the state capitol in Sacramento, 20 miles from Folsom and 30 miles from UC Davis. We are only 100 miles from both San Francisco and South Lake Tahoe. We are located about a half an hour's drive (approximately 20 miles) from the Sacramento International Airport and 12 miles from the Amtrak Station in Sacramento. Guest AccessPrivate fully furnished studio apartment nestled amongst several homes. Apartment has a kitchenette, 1/2 bathroom (toilet and shower only, the sink is in the kitchen ), cable and wi-fi. Small fenced private yard. One (off street) parking space. (If more than one parking space is needed please inform host.) Interaction with GuestsWe respect your privacy as our guest but if you have questions about our neighborhood, need suggestions on things to do locally or you have any issues that come up, feel free to contact us. We are available for you. Think of us as your concierge, we are here to assist you. We are only a phone call away. The NeighborhoodPeaceful and quiet neighborhood. Western screech owls at night and a variety of birds in the daytime. Plenty of trees surround you. Secluded yet close to shopping and nature. The neighbors next door have chickens, another neighbor has two goats and many of the neighbors have dogs so expect some occasional animal noises during your stay. Carmichael is located 11 miles north east of Sacramento. Our nearby Raley's is conveniently open from 6am to 11pm. There are a lot of great shopping and dining options nearby and some really amazing thrift stores. We are really close to the American River. For wildlife and nature, you can't go wrong with a visit to Effie Yeaw Nature Center/Ancil Hoffman Golf Course. There is even a drive-in movie theater nearby. Some of my other favorite places to take visitors are the Preston Castle in Ione, the Folsom Prison Museum, and the Old City Cemetery in Sacramento which has an amazing rose garden. Getting AroundOur area is fairly easy to navigate and explore we are close to many major freeways, bus lines, amtrak and light rail. There are also extensive biking and hiking trails. Walking, biking and driving are the best way to explore the area. Other Things to NoteWe provide all guests with coffee and tea. We also offer late check in/out when possible without any extra fees.

The SpaceEnter our garden through our beautiful locked gate (code will be provided) and step back in time to a period when life in California was more relaxed, but do it while enjoying modern comforts. This private three-room suite is on the ground floor of our 4-bedroom 3-bath tri-level home. The rest of the house is up one level, giving you the entire floor to yourself. The suite has a living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. The suite's bedroom features a double bed with pillowtop mattress, luxurious linens, a matelasse bedspread and duponi silk comforter. There are a 1940s "waterfall" style vanity, dresser, and nightstand. You can put your suitcase on the wooden luggage rack, but there is no need to live out of it. The closet and dresser drawers are available for you to put away your things. A chest of drawers at the foot of your bed holds extra pillows and blankets. The former half-bath referenced in some of the reviews was completely gutted and remodeled in fall/winter 2015 to add a shower with both handheld and rainfall shower heads. The bathroom features a water-saving dual-flush toilet, a granite counter with raised basin, and a heated tile floor too keep your toes warm. Fluffy towels and bathrobes are provided, as are basic toiletries. The suite is named for the art in the living room that features scenes of California. Living room furnishings include a small couch, a comfortable arm chair, and a large credenza (which is my sewing cabinet when there are no guests). If you are here on business, the top of the credenza can be opened out to make a very large worktable. There is also a work chair. I am crafty--at the end of the room is a cabinet of dolls that I have made. A stained glass window I made hangs in the window, and quilts that I made are on a rack behind the bedroom door. You are welcome to bring in your own food for lunch or dinner. The living room has a microwave and a mini-refrigerator for your exclusive use. There is a coffee bar with a coffee maker and an electric tea kettle. The cabinet under the coffee maker has dishes and bowls, glasses, flatware, and a blender. There is a small foldup "bistro set" that you can set up in the room to provide table space for two people. Or, in temperate weather, you may prefer to enjoy your meals on the covered patio outside your suite. The suite has central air conditioning and heat, though the controlling thermostat is in the master bedroom of the house on the upper floor. For more individual climate control, we provide a small space heater and an oscillating floor fan for your use. The suite has hardwood floors in the living and bedrooms and tile floors in the bathroom. The small (1") step from the yard to the living room make the suite accessible for those with mobility issues. The bathroom shower is a walk in with a very small curb. However, the doorways are standard width, and the narrow spaces in both the bath and bedroom would make it difficult to get a wheelchair into the bath or near the bed. The bedroom accommodates 2 guests, but the living room can be set up with a queen-sized aerobed which can accommodate two more. Upon request, we will set up the aerobed and make it up with regular linens. Other Amenities: -Two televisions: a flat screen TV with Dish satellite (250 stations), Roku, and a DVD player in the bedroom of your suite and a small TV with a DVD player in the living room of the suite. The TV in the living room is not connected to cable, satellite, or the antenna. As a result, you can only watch DVDs on that one. We have a large collection of classic DVDs that you can borrow. -Hi-speed wireless internet access throughout the house -USB wall outlet for charging your devices -Clock radio with IPOD dock in your bedroom. -Stereo in the living room of your suite (music CDs available). -Ironing board and iron in your suite. -Toiletries provided. -Coffee-maker in your suite. Freshly ground coffee and tea. -Complimentary continental breakfast featuring home-baked goods, fruit, yogurt, cereal and juice. -Hairdryer. -Solar heated pool with waterfall (summer only) -Garden with fruit trees (your breakfast may feature fruit from our trees in season), pond, gazebo, and deck. -New smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your rooms. The suite has two entrances: in addition to the private keyed entrance from the garden, there is also an entrance from the the upstairs main entry hall of the house via a stairway, making it convenient to access the main rooms of the house upstairs. The keyed door at the top of the stairway, can be locked to ensure your privacy. There may be other guests in our home during your stay; we have two additional guest rooms upstairs (The Hakuna Matata Room and the Wisteria Room), both also listed on AirBnB. Guest AccessGuests have access to all the common areas of the house and garden. You are welcome to use the common areas (kitchen, living room, dining room, family room) on the main floor of the house, but the main floor is not wheelchair accessible and not easily accessible to guests with mobility issues due to the stairs. Our garden and pool are right out your sliding door. You can nap on the daybed in the gazebo, swim in the pool in the summer, and relax in the chaise lounge or in the hammock under the redwood trees. The patio, deck, gazebo, pool and yard have lights for evening and nighttime use. Continental breakfast is included in the price of your stay. You may have it upstairs or, upon request, we will put it out in your room the evening before. With 48 hours advanced notice, special diets or dietary preferences can be accommodated. You also may arrange for kitchen privileges in our fully equipped kitchen upstairs. Just ask if you need pots or pans or anything else. If you would like to eat in, but don't want to cook, several restaurants in the area offer delivery service for lunch and dinner. Please see our blog for more information on selection and prices for full breakfast and lunch delivery options. Although the suite is a perfect for a couple, we also welcome well-behaved children in the suite. We have a portable crib, high chair, and booster chair you can borrow if you need them. We want you to feel secure and safe. We own our home outright, so there is no risk of your reservation being cancelled due to foreclosure or landlord issues. We have a fire extinguisher and fire hydrant on the premises. We are both trained in CPR and first aid. Our pool is fenced separately from the rest of the yard with a 4' safety fence with a locked gate. Interaction with GuestsWe travel and understand what other travelers require. Our goal is to provide all that and more. We have lots of tourist info for Sacramento and other parts of California as well as personal knowledge of much of the state. We can help you plan your day or the rest of your trip. Or if you prefer, you can just sit back and relax in privacy. The NeighborhoodWe live in a tree-lined suburban neighborhood near the junction of I-80 and Business 80, about 9 miles to the northeast of downtown Sacramento, and 20 minutes by car from the Sacramento Airport. The houses in our neighborhood are custom built and the lots vary in size. Some properties in the neighborhood have horses. If you want to take a walk, we can tell you where they are. Auburn Boulevard (half a mile away) was the main highway before the interstate was built, and is lined with a variety of businesses, unfortunately, none of the really close ones are restaurants. Getting AroundThere are two parks and a nature trail nearby. We are a short drive from recreational opportunities on the American River and the American River greenbelt. There is free street parking in front and along the side of our home. Please do not park in the driveway as we garage our own cars and will likely need to get them out of the garage during your stay. If you are taking public transportation, we are less than 2 miles from the Watt and I-80 light rail station, where you can catch the #1 bus to a stop about that is 1/2 mile from our home. It takes about 45 minutes to get to our house without a car from downtown using public transportation. The new Megabus stop at the Q Street Light Rail station is an easy 45 bus ride (get on the #82 Regional Transit bus at the station and get off a short 4 minute walk from our house). If you need to rent a car, there is also an Enterprise Rental Car agency open 7 am - 6 pm M-F and Saturday mornings that is an easy 1 mile walk from our house (and they will pick you up from here). This is a suburban neighborhood and best for those with a car. Please see our guidebook for this listing for restaurant and other recommendations. Other Things to NoteIMPORTANT: We have two very friendly medium sized dogs. The pets live in our house, but do not go into the suite. They have their own fenced yard separate from the main garden/pool area. However, we do sometimes let them into the main yard when we are outside. Please keep the gate to the yard and the front door of the house closed at all times so the dog don't get out into the street. Our animals are friendly and well behaved in the house once they get over their initial excitement of meeting new people. Because we have three listings, including this one, on Airbnb at this location, there may be other guests present during your stay. In the summer, they may be using the pool or yard during your stay. We don't wear shoes in the house, but you can wear yours if you want. Laundry privileges can be arranged for a small charge to cover our costs (instituted after a guest visiting her parents in Sacramento asked if she could do 10 loads of laundry here)--we practice and encourage water conservation. See our blog under "Useful Information." Please note that there is an extra charge per guest for more than two guests that Airbnb will assess when you make your reservation. If you have any concerns or suggestions that would make your stay more enjoyable, please let us know. We do make changes based on suggestions from our guests.

The NeighborhoodWe live in a safe suburban neighborhood near American River College. We are located 9 miles, from downtown Sacramento. We are easy to get to from all Sacramento area freeways. We are 2 minutes from the junction of Interstate 80 and the Capitol City Freeway. We are a short drive (20 minutes) from the Sacramento Airport via Interstate 5. We are five miles north of Highway 50. Our neighborhood is near a creek and within walking distance of a riparian park with a bridal/hiking trail and (in the other direction) a suburban park with a community center, playground, and huge grass area with picnic tables. Sacramento is California's state capitol. Old Sacramento, a state historic park, includes one of the nation's best railroad museums. In nearby downtown, you will find the California's History and Women's museum, and the Crocker Art Museum. Sacramento has a small zoo that specializes in wild cats. They also have red pandas. There are several municipal golf courses, including two near our home. Golf lovers can play the at any of three local courses, including Del Paso Country Club, site of the site of the 2015 US Senior Open. Other outdoor recreation enthusiasts can take advantage of hiking, equestrian and biking trails in the nearby Sierra foothills and along the American River parkway; whitewater raft or kayak the Sacramento or American Rivers; or enjoy beautiful Lake Tahoe, two hours to the east. To the west, is the beautiful and world-famous Napa Valley (1 hr 10 minutes), San Francisco (2 hours), and the spectacular Marin and Sonoma coastlines. Sacramento is in the middle of the state in all directions, making it an ideal stopping place for those traveling from southern California to Oregon and Washington. We are happy to point out great places to eat nearby, or provide tourist advice for other parts of California. My husbands and I are both native Californians. We've traveled to the US, Europe, the Pacific Islands, China and South Africa. We know what travelers need and we try our best to provide it. Getting AroundAirport Access. The new stop at the Q Street light rail station is a 45-minute easy bus ride (get on at the station and get off at the Pasadena Avenue and Winding Way stop that is a 4 minute walk from our house). All bedrooms have a keyed lock, and every room in our home has a new, functioning carbon monoxide and smoke detector. Your room comes with a guest book that contains emergency information, including an evacuation plan. We have working fire extinguishers and a fire hydrant on our property. We are both trained in CPR and first aid. Our pool and pond are separately fenced, and there is an outside phone with emergency instructions. Check-in is normally 3-6 and check out is at 11. If you need an earlier or later check in, please ask. We may be able to accommodate you, depending on other guests who stay before or after you in your room. Even if we are unable too accommodate an early check in or late check out, you are welcome to leave your bags. We have two very friendly medium sized dogs that are part of our family and live In our house. The dogs have a dog door out to their separate run, through our laundry room, so you don't need to worry about dog mess if you use our yard. We have a nice walk-through wooden pet gate in our entry hall to keep the dogs or cat from getting out or under foot while you are moving your luggage in and out. Our dogs (a border collie mix and a bassett hound mix) are friendly and well behaved in the house once they get over their initial excitement of meeting new people. Unfortunately, we had to put our sweet kitty to sleep in May 2016 due to reoccuring lymphoma. We miss her. Even though we no longer have a cat and we clean and vaccuum routinely, if you are allergic to cats, this may not be the best place for you to stay. Continental breakfast is complementary. We set it out at night (milk and other perishables are in the refrigerator). Help yourself to breakfast anytime in the morning until 10:30. Please return any perishables to the refrigerator. If you would like to prepare your own meal, our kitchen is available for your use. We accept cash, credit cards or Paypal for any additional charges. If you use Paypal, please designate the payment for friends and family rather than goods and services so that I am not charged a fee that I will have to recover from you. Credit charges will inclure an additional 3% to cover bank fees.
