We are happy to point out great places to eat nearby, or provide tourist advice for other parts of California. I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and my husband is from Napa. We've traveled extensively in California, the US, Europe, the Pacific Islands, China and South Africa. We know what we like when we travel, and we try to provide it for our guests. The NeighborhoodWe live in an older neighborhood with established trees near a creek and within walking distance of a riparian park with a bridal/hiking trail and (in the other direction) a more suburban park. If you want to go jogging, we can recommend a couple of nice trails.
Sacramento is the home to California's state capitol, Old Sacramento, one of the nation's best railroad museums, the California's History and Women's museum, and the Crocker Art Museum. There is a small zoo, summer theater, and several municipal golf courses, including two near our home. There is a modern mutiplex a 5-minute drive down the road. Outdoor recreation enthusiasts can also take advantage of hiking, equestrian and biking trails in the nearby Sierra foothills and along the fantastic American River parkway; whitewater raft or kayak the Sacramento or American Rivers; or enjoy beautiful Lake Tahoe, two hours to the east. To the west, is the beautiful and world-famous Napa Valley (1 hr 10 minutes), San Francisco (2 hours), and the spectacular Marin and Sonoma coastlines.

We have two friendly medium sized dogs that are part of our family and live In our house. The dogs have a dog door out to their separate run, through our laundry room,so you don't need to worry about dog mess if you use our yard. We have a nice walk-through wooden pet gate in our entry hall to keep the dogs from getting out or under foot while guests are arming and departing. We also have walk-through pet gates on each of the bedroom doors upstairs to keep our pets out of your room if you want to leave your bedroom door open. The gates are easy to use. Our animals are well behaved in the house, though they get excited for a minute or two when meeting new people (and when I come home). My border collie mix (Sophie) will protect you from wolves (she's very good at it -- we've never seen one around the house), and my bassett hound mix (Colin) will sit next to you if you let him.
Continental breakfast is complementary. We usually set it out at night (milk and other perishables are in the refrigerator) before we go to bed. Help yourself to breakfast anytime in the morning. If you take out perishables, please return them to the refrigerator. If you would like to prepare your own meal, our kitchen is available for your use.
