The SpaceThis compound is enchanting. The primary dwelling, which we call "The Q" is a 1300 sf adobe house with a full bath and kitchen. This house sleeps 4+. It has an open floor plan with a sleeping alcove. (There are no actual bedrooms.) Not far away is the Stick Casita. (Casita means "little house"). It has one bedroom with 2 twin beds and a twin day bed in the living room. There is also a full bathroom in this casita. Behind the trees between the Stick and the Q are 2 tipis. They are waterproof and mold-proof, and the "floor" is course sand. Ideal for those who enjoy tenting. Do bring your own sleeping gear! High speed optic fiber internet/WiFi coming Jan 2015. There is a flatscreen TV & DVD player, (no cable/satellite), a great stereo system, and lots of good books to read. Additionally, we can recommend an incredible cook, as well as other services such as massage, music, and yoga on site. Guest AccessThe property these 2 houses are on is 8 acres, and then there is an additional 12 acres with a charming hiking loop. You may have those last 12 acres to yourself, or you may be sharing them with my other property residents next door. Nearby, (that's a relative term here in NM), is Ojo Caliente Spa and Mineral Springs and also the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument where you can wade, river raft, hike, and horseback ride. Both of these wonderful areas are a half hour from the retreat. Taos is about 40 minutes. Interaction with GuestsNone after initial meeting. They have the place to themselves. The NeighborhoodThis private rural retreat is located in the enchanted high desert forest of northern New Mexico. The trees are really special here. It is rare to see piñon pines and junipers this large. The town (village is more like it), consists of about 150 residents, a general store, a post office, and a fire department. The property itself is on 20 acres. A sense of serenity is pervasive in the natural surrounding landscape, and you will notice the tensions from daily life dissolve. The three miles of dirt roads to the retreat are passable year-round and give the feeling that you are "out there". A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended in the snow and in the springtime mud. If you'd like some off-site adventure, Taos is 40 minutes away, and Santa Fe is about an hour and a half. The Ski Valley is one-hour door to door, and Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs less than 30 minutes. You can visit ancient Indian cliff dwellings, hike in the mountains or on the mesa, and river-raft or horseback ride in the Rio Grande Gorge National Monument. Love it! Getting AroundYou must have a car. Other Things to NoteWhether or not you want local art, active adventure, indigenous culture, or a relaxing soak, every evening you will find yourself in the peaceful quietude of the surrounding forest and its natural inhabitants. This is an excellent getaway for couples, small families, close friends, or harried individuals in search of peace.
