Glasgow, Edinburgh or Arran can be visited for the day, you can walk or cycle in the hills or visit the beautiful coastal villages and historic castles. Getting AroundWe are easy to find on the A713, just over an hour from Glasgow airport. You need a car to see the area at it's best, or bring your bikes and try one of the many bike trails in the area, there are 400 km of trails just on the 7 Stanes.

The Space"River Ken Cottage" is a very idyllic riverside log cabin situated 10 miles from St. John's Town of Dalry in the Galloway Hills. Great cycling/hiking right on the doorstep and close to Southern Upland Way. Roe and red deer are seen on the hills daily. Nearest town is Castle Douglas with a wide selection of goods. Drumlanrig and Culzean Castle, Galloway Forest Park and Wanlockhead Lead mines are just some of the many attractions in the area. As we are "in the middle of Nowhere" you will need your a car. We are 50 minutes from Dumfries and Ayr railway/bus stations. 20 minutes from St. John's Town of Dalry and Moniaive villages with shops, pubs and restaurants. Lavender Cottage is a very snug, homely cottage on the outskirts of the village of Carsphairn. It is situated between Loch Ken and Loch Doon, both 20 minutes drive away, within the vast forest park. This is a very beautiful, tranquil part of Scotland, and is ideally situated to cater for all activities within country life. There are stunning views from the cottage windows (see below), which you can enjoy whilst relaxing beside the log fire. If you are feeling more active you can enjoy the walking, cycling, fishing, golf, sight seeing and water sport opportunities all available locally. The village shop, post office and heritage centre are all nearby. A deposit of ÂŁ70 is required on booking, with the balance payable 6 weeks before the start of the holiday. Bookings for less than a full week are charged as follows: 3 nights of less - 60% of weekly rate Additional nights - 10% of weekly rate The cottage is normally let on a Saturday to Saturday basis, however we can accomodate your requirements. Short breaks are also available. Galloway Forest Park area: Enjoy a peaceful stroll on one of our woodland trails, or if you fancy something a little more strenuous, head out to the hills and climb the Merrick, South Scotland's highest peak. The area is steeped in history with many abbeys and castles to visit with memorials to Robert the Bruce. In Alloway, 30 minutes away you will find Burns Cottage, home to Scotland's bard - Robbie Burns. Wildlife: Galloway has some of Scotland's most amazing wildlife, including the red squirrel, otter pine marten, black grouse, golden eagle, red deer, red kite, buzzard, peregrine falcon, puffin and even nightjar. The cottage has one double and one twin bedroom. A lounge, shower room and modern kitchen. Bed linen / towels / electricity are included in the price. The cottage has a large garden to the front with private parking for two cars. Children are welcome. Travel cot, highchair etc. available on request. Well behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement. The cottage has lots to do in the local area including walking, fishing, golf (only 40 minutes from Troon), Dumfries House, Dark Sky Park. Ayr and Alloway are approximately 30 minutes drive away. New Cumnock train station is a 10 minute drive away with frequent services to Glasgow / Carlisle.Prestwick Airport is only 30/40 minutes drive and Glasgow 1 hour away. Only 1.5 hours easy drive to central Glasgow. Handy for the Commonwealth Games 2014.Suitable for all outdoor sports enthusiasts.
