Anything we can do to help!!! ****ALSO note...U.S. Cellular gets great service around our area, but Verizon and AT&T are not so good. Republic also seems to do fine in conjunction to our wireless internet for some reason. You may want to pick up an area map if your phone will not navitage with GPS. Getting AroundYou will need a vehicle to get around and if there happens to be a snow storm or strong rains, our driveway is a little bit steep and it can be challenging. Our guests have never had a problem, but we haven't had any encounters with snowstorms while hosting.

The SpaceThe cottage features 5 stained glass windows restored by my mother. Skylights in the guest loft shine brilliant light through an old restored church window in the morning- amber, pink and teal! The orchard is fully organic fruit trees and there are several gardens with bearded iris', gladioli, honeysuckle bushes and morning glories- a hummingbird's paradise! The 60-tree orchard is just two years old but we have already seen some fruit thanks to help from our knowledgable friends at New Era Nursery. We are currently growing multiple varieties of apple, pear, peach, cherry, apricot, plum and hazelnut as well as figs and mini banana trees that live inside once winter comes. An interesting factoid about the cottage: On 2 upper living room shelves are stacked thousands of romance novels. Those were were used to make some of the paper nest sculptures in the entryway and have also served as the farm's main source of mulch and chicken bedding, so outside you can expect to see shreds of lurid text littering the orchard and hen house. Feel free to explore all the silly titles and take one of the romance paperbacks home as a souvenir. The bathroom: Right now we only have a shower, no tub. The fireplace: It is a clean-burning pellet stove with pellets available and instructions for using the stove. Guest AccessGuests will have privacy and access to the whole house and grounds. Between the house and garage is a mushroom labyrinth with fruiting logs. Feel free to wander through the orchard, gardens and mushroom maze. We invite guests to enjoy these features, but not to harvest unattended as the edible varieties and their readiness can be hard for non-experts to discern. Some breakfast items will be left for guests to enjoy, including fresh roasted "Sweet Peggy's" microlot coffee and fresh eggs from our happy hens kept by the garden (*when we have eggs to share). You are also welcome to drink the teas in the tea cupboard and cook with our spices and pantry items and fresh veggies or mushroom we have harvested for you. Excited to share this special place and make your stay as comfortable as possible. Interaction with GuestsPeggy is available by phone or text to help or answer any questions. The NeighborhoodAt the beginning of the driveway is a llama ranch/bakery run by Cowboys Joe and David, owners of the Kickapoo Valley Ranch guest cabins. They are the best neighbors ever and host coffee and a bake sale each Saturday from 8am-4pm. I am working on a mural in their "artist alcove" cafe area. Just up the road from the cowboys is a fantastic thrift shop called Grandma's Attic, which is only open certain Saturdays. Its super cute, cheap and full of treasures. The nearest neighbors are hunting cabins which can't be seen from the house and are rarely occupied. The hunters tend not to be huge dog fans, so make sure not to let pups wander off our 20 acres during your visit to the cottage. Getting AroundThe cottage is pretty far from public transportation, although inexpensive smart busses drop off and pickup in the nearby towns. The main path through the reserve by my house is pavement..... if you had a car, canoe and skateboard you could park at bridge 14, canoe to bridge 20 in La Farge, then skateboarded back to the car. There are a lot of other ways you can plan a canoe trip! If you need help you could consult me or any of the local canoe rentals- they can tell you the approx duration from bridge-to-bridge and arrange pickup and dropoff at very reasonable prices (usually $30 for the whole day including pickup/dropoff and canoe rental.) :) Other Things to NoteThe drinking water at the cottage comes from a well that has been tested each year and found to have no bacterial or heavy metal contaminants, and very low nitrate levels. It is delicious-tasting and full of minerals. There is also an outhouse behind the cottage which is quite pleasant if you would prefer a bit more privacy. In your use of the toilet: "when its yellow, let it mellow. When its brown, flush it down," and there will be no flushing of sanitary products.

A fire pit is available should you want to sit out under the stars. Cell service can be sporadic and the television is for movies only. This is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and the business of life. Relax, read, reflect and renew before heading back. We hope you'll love it here as much as we do.

Relax in the comfort of a full-size 2 bedroom, 2 bath luxury 2nd floor apartment with separate entrance for your convenience and privacy. Enjoy the quiet country life with panoramic views of Big Creek Valley from the bay window in your living room, or sip a favorite beverage on the spacious balcony adjoining the King room. Feel free to enjoy our large lawn, take a walk through our woods or enjoy an evening fire in the fire pit. (Large deck attached to main house is available to guests on request.) Our home is situated on the side of a small hill overlooking an active dairy farming area with farmers fields and pastures giving way to rolling wooded hills in the distance. Enjoy a bicycle or motorcycle ride or quiet drive along (paved) country roads, or relax in the yard or on your balcony with a good book and a glass of wine. Wintertime sports activities are nearby with cross country and downhill skiing, tubing and snowboarding at Fort McCoy, cross country at the golf course in Sparta, and downhill at Mount La Crosse. Snowmobile trails abound! You and the kids can enjoy sledding on the mild slope of the hill right behind your apartment, build snowmen in the yard, etc. Try your hand at ice-fishing on Perch Lake or Lake Neshonoc or skating at the Sparta Hockey Rink or one of the outdoor rinks at Memorial Park in Sparta... or just snuggle in and stay warm by the electric fireplace in the apartment. The apartment is attached to our home but has a separate entrance for your convenience. Sound buffers between our living spaces mean we can't hear you and you can't hear us. RECLAIMED CHARM A few years ago a storm blew over an enormous elm tree I climbed as a kid. It landed on the corner of an early 1900's granary. The owner chose not to repair it and allowed us to take it down for the salvaged lumber. You'll find that reclaimed lumber throughout the apartment. Wooden floors were reworked from the granary flooring. Wainscot, trim and wood ceilings were made from the siding. Shelves and benches that adorn the apartment were made from refashioned roofing boards. Table, work station and vanity tops were made from wall studs and beams. Nail holes, knots and blemishes remain visible in the wood giving the finished pieces a unique and beautiful character. Keywords: Luxury Suite, large yard, woods, reclaimed wood floors, close to Elroy-Sparta and La Crosse River bike trails. Day trips to Bluffs, Amish Country.

My brother, my 4 sons and I built this cabin working summers over a period of 5 years. We were looking for a new place to hunt and trout fish that was as pretty as the bluffs and streams of Juneau County. We came across the Kickapoo Valley Reserve and couldn't believe this treasure was only 45 minutes away and we had never heard of it before. We got lucky. We found the perfect 30 acres. It borders the reserve. Something extremely hard to find. Step in the reserve and one has a nature playpen approximately 3 miles wide and 15 miles long. The cabin is not very big at 24 by 32. Up stairs we have a full bath, two bedrooms, a loft, a couch, a full kitchen, and a door that leads to one of the best coffee drinking decks around. Down stairs we have a full kitchen, full bath, and a big old card table. We set the downstairs up with a full kitchen and full bath because in the summertime the whole family and a bunch of friends show up and pitch tents and it turns into a community cooking spot and place to clean up. We have a canoe trailer with 6 canoes on it and a nice fire pit. On a clear night you will not find a more magnificent star show.
