Castle Douglas was established in the late 18th century, along the same grid plan as Edinburgh's New Town, and thrived as a market hub. Its 1900 hexagonal Auction Mart is still in use today. In the surrounding countryside red squirrels, woodpeckers, badgers and hares make their home.     Possibly the next best thing to The Orient Express. Our accomodation is in a beautifully converted 1957 railway carriage. The two ensuite bedrooms are superbly decorated and very comfortable. The galley area is well equipped with all the facilities you might expect. The lounge area has two couches, flat screen TV, Internet access and outstanding views over the local countryside. The location is ideal for walkers, mountain bikers, golfers, anglers or anyone looking for an entirely restful break. The carriage is located in the old station yard which is now all grass and is perfect for children and pets - which are most welcome at no extra charge. The nightly price quoted varies depending on the number of nights booked ie the nightly rate for 7 nights is less than the nightly rate for 2 nights. Please enquire for short break pricing rates.       FOXFLAT is a well positioned main door apartment off Castle Douglas' main shopping street, King Street. It is within immediate walking distance to all the market town's amenities. Arranged over first floor level the apartment sleeps 4/6 persons with 2 bedrooms and a third bedroom/ sitting room. Decorated to a high standard, the apartment benefits from a large exclusive garden to the rear with direct back door access. The lounge/ dining room area comfortably seats 6 people both in the lounge and dining areas and benefits from a wood burning stove fire, TV and DVD/CD player. There are 2 lovely brown leather sofas and a comfy armchair with foot stool. The main double bedroom is situated off the lounge with memory foam mattress, dressing table area and fitted wardrobes. The second bedroom features white bunk beds, hanging space and chest of drawers. The kitchen is galley style and well equipped with electric hob and oven, fridge, small freezer, sink and drying area. The kitchen is situated off the second sitting room/ third bedroom. The sitting room benefits from a sofa bed for 2, rocking chair, breakfast bar for 2 persons and storage as a third bedroom. There is also a TV and play-station with plentiful games and DVDs. The shower room is freshly decorated located off the hall with a good electric shower, and new wc and sink. Downstairs on entry there is a vestibule with storm door and a spacious hall with hat and coat stand, lamp and console table. There is a door leading to the utility area and back garden. The utility area stores a washer/ dryer and has ample space to store bikes. The garden, which is a sun trap, is raised up by about 6 steps and is arranged over one level. There is a washing line in the garden, seating area, picnic table, deck and BBQ. Parking is free, off street around the corner (opposite Police Station). Cleaning is included in the price. The heating is metered and £20 will be provided upfront. Additional top ups may be required. Linens and Towels are additional cost at £20 per couple and £30 per family. The town itself is known as the 'Food Town' and is renowned for its independent retailing. King Street is the main thoroughfare with lots of butchers, Delis, coffee shops and restaurants. Favourites are Designs Cafe and In house for a quality coffee. In terms of dining out there are many options from good bar food to Italian (Carlos), Indian (Jewel in the Crown), Chinese (Jade Palace and take away Great Wall). There are plenty of pubs/ hotels and the Sulwath Brewery is worth a visit for a sample of locally brewed beers. The town has an enviable retailing offer with ladieswear, menswear, childrenswear and homeware with many shoppers travelling from far afield as well as a good 'shop local' mentality. Favourites are Foxhat, Livingstons, Designs, Tessera and Country House. There are a few antique shops for a rumage. There is a nearby 'Loch walk' around Carlingwark Loch. With plenty of activity options including tennis courts in the town, 2 parks at the top and bottom end of King Street, library and a small public swimming pool the children can be kept amused very local. There are other swimming pools in Kirkcubright and a larger leisure pool in Dumfries, DG1. The Fullarton provides the town's cinema and Theatre offering.           Semi-detached new barn conversion cottage in a very quiet area. The cottage sleeps 5 comfortably but could sleep 6 with a fold up bed which could be put in, if asked in advance. The kitchen is fully equiped and has a dining table which seats 6. Comfortable lounge with an arm-chair and 2 sofas. Full central heating included in the price. The cottage has beautiful uninterupted views of the surrounding countryside and has a parking space for 2/3 cars. The cottage is part of a courtyard with ongoing development at the moment which when finished will really give extras to the property. Dumfries and Galloway is a beautiful unspoiled area which boasts many sandy beaches; a variety of golf courses; superb walking country in the Galloway Hills and a wealth of coastal walks. There are many other outdoor activities available in the local area including horse-riding: sailing: the Seven Stanes mountain biking tracks: grass sledging: clay pigeon shooting and off-road tank driving. The town of Castle Douglas is 6 miles away from us and is a delightful small town with a growing reputation for its unique shopping experince which has been featured regionally on television broadcasts. It also has a number of restuarants and take-away food outlets, and has its own library and swimming pool. Castle Douglas is an 18th century market town that is also a designated Food Town with lots of local produce. There are around 50 local businesses in Castle Douglas that either produce or sell quality food and drink. The town is a thriving centre for prosperous local farming. The Stewartry Agricultural Show is an annual event that takes place nearby. Beside Castle Douglas is Carlingwark Loch, dotted with islands and great for boating and learning to sail and picnicking. At the far end of the loch are Threave Gardens, open to visitors all year. On an island in the River Dee stands 14th century Threave Castle, the great fortress of the Douglases, which can be reached by ferry. Nearby is Threave Wildfowl Refuge, an important place for wintering wildfowl, where visitors can watch the birds from hides. If you enjoy walking Castle Douglas has numerous walks to do and enjoy, with over 200 miles of unspoilt coastline to explore, you'll discover stunning cliff-top walks or leisurely strolls along sandy beaches. Miles and miles of forest trails under natural canopies, gentle slopes or rugged hikes to the top of hills and mountains reward you with spectacular views.

                Lochside Apartment is very proud to be the only accommodation in the Stewartry to hold a 5 star grading so as you would expect everything is to the highest standards. The Apartment was purposely built in 2010 because of their ideal location in the picturesque 'Food Town' of Castle Douglas and on the edge of Lochside Park giving stunning views over the park, Carlingwark Loch and the surrounding hills of Screel and Ben Gairn. This making it the ideal location for families (small and large), walkers, golfers and bikers.

                  A modern architect designed house set in the peaceful countryside of Dumfries and Galloway. Ideally situated to visit the regions tourist attractions, close to Threave Gardens. Relax and unwind in our hot tub, challenge family and friends to a game of table tennis or pool in the adjacent games room. Underfloor heating and a woodburning stove will keep you cosy during those winter breaks. Enjoy free fishing in the River Dee ,about 400m from the house. Cycle the quiet roads or the more challenging mountain bike trails. Explore the Galloway Hills or canoe along rivers and lochs . It will surprise you how much the region has to offer. Visit the historic artists town of Kirkudbright or the market town of Castle Douglas (3 miles) with its interesting variety of cafes and shops. We live close by and are always happy to offer advice on where to visit and places to eat. Our 4 night rates are at a reduced price per night. e.g. low season £420, mid season £480.

Relax and unwind in our hot tub, challenge family and friends to a game of table tennis or pool in the adjacent games room. Underfloor heating and a woodburning stove will keep you cosy during those winter breaks. Enjoy free fishing in the River Dee ,about 400m from the house. Cycle the quiet roads or the more challenging mountain bike trails. Explore the Galloway Hills or canoe along rivers and lochs . It will surprise you how much the region has to offer. Visit the historic artists town of Kirkudbright or the market town of Castle Douglas (3 miles) with its interesting variety of cafes and shops. We live close by and are always happy to offer advice on where to visit and places to eat. Our 4 night rates are at a reduced price per night. e.g. low season ÂŁ420, mid season ÂŁ480. We offer a modern well designed house in a quiet situation, yet close to the A 75, the main route through the region. We have a hot tub on the private patio on the southside of the house with views across the rolling Galloway countryside and an adjacent games room.

                        Lochside Apartment is very proud to be the only accommodation in the Stewartry to hold a 5 star grading so as you would expect everything is to the highest standards. The Apartment was purposely built in 2010 because of their ideal location in the picturesque 'Food Town' of Castle Douglas and on the edge of Lochside Park giving stunning views over the park, Carlingwark Loch and the surrounding hills of Screel and Ben Gairn. This making it the ideal location for families (small and large), walkers, golfers and bikers. Short breaks are available upon request (minimum stay is 3 nights). Weekly rentals are from Saturday to Saturday. Check in time is from 4pm and check out time is by 10.30am. 50% deposit is due to secure booking and the other 50% is due 42 days before the arrival date. Castle Douglas boasts an array of independently run shops which have a wide selection of local arts and crafts, clothing and footware, hand-made jewellery and gifts galore. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants to tempt the taste buds if you would like to eat out, many serving local produce. For the sweeter tooth there is a selection of locally made food, from ice cream to hand-made chocolates. The town has several pubs and even its own brewery for those who like a tipple. All this gives the town its own unique charm, not found in many other high streets nowadays, with something for every visitor.
