A Brief History -The Diggers' Store store was established in Campbells Creek in 1857. Today it remains a well-known heritage icon in Castlemaine and the surrounding area.A gentleman named William Wood was granted the land in order to set up a gold-mining supplies store to fulfill the needs of the growing town. (Hence the name The Diggers Store!) Gold had been discovered in the area in 1851 and within two years (phone number hidden) miners were living in a shanty-town that stretched along the Creek. The stable, once housing Mr. Wood's horses and hay, was carefully and respectfully converted in to a two-story dwelling in the early 1990s in order to set it up as a bed and breakfast.
Alex and Tina re-opened The Diggers Store B&B; in late 2013. Alex grew up on the property where his parents once ran an antiques store, a devonshire tea house, and ran the B&B.; Alex and Tina have also set up an all-analogue recording studio on the property, Sound Recordings, and are working on a few more ideas for the property in the near future.
