The SpaceSee reviews of the space in my other private room listing here (you may need to cut and paste into your browser): https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/3586202#reviews I've recently finished building my first (well, hopefully!) solar passive house and I welcome you to come and stay. Solar passive just means designed to be naturally heated in winter and cooled in summer. So it has lots of north facing windows to bring the light and warmth right into the living spaces in winter, and eaves designed for shade in summer. It is of course cloudy sometimes in Castlemaine so I have installed a beautiful nectre wood heater in the lounge room and there is an abundant supply of firewood sourced from a nearby high quality hardwood plantation. So you could say its carbon neutral heating! For fast warmth and cooling there is also a reverse cycle aircon. I bought this block for its gorgeous views down towards Mt Franklin and there are frequently some amazing skyline vistas and beautiful sunsets to be enjoyed, either from the comfort of the living room or the front deck. The house is double glazed, I have used sustainable timbers throughout (e.g. bamboo, plantation scandanavian pine) and it has a modern kitchen with gas cook top. You are welcome to make yourself at home here, I welcome people who want to cook up a storm, or just relax at home and head out to enjoy the foodie delights of the Castlemaine / Maldon / Daylesford region. The two bedrooms have comfy queen size beds, built in wardrobes, blinds and a reading light. My place is right on the border of Castlemaine and Campbells Creek (on some maps appears as Campbells Creek) which being up on the hill gives it a great view to the south. *** Please be aware *** that I am currently growing a native lawn so there are some automatic sprinklers that will go on to keep those little grasses growing Guest AccessAccess is to the whole house, there are two bathrooms to choose from. One has a beautiful big bath with abundant hot water. As well as the 2 bedrooms each with queen size beds, there is a separate study and a large healing room great for yoga, meditation, qi gong etc. Interaction with GuestsI've only just started hosting, so it would depend on how much I am around. I'm happy to help with advice on things to do and places to eat. The NeighborhoodCastlemaine is a great down to earth, creative town... the joint is literally packed with artists and has a growing foodie / organics culture. My place is right on the border of Castlemaine and Campbells Creek (on some maps appears as Campbells Creek) which being up on the hill gives it a great view to the south. The bush even though it is quite dry has a peace and beauty of its own and the national park is just around the corner from my place. Getting AroundThe train from Melbourne Southern Cross station runs regularly to Castlemaine station. From the airport the Skybus goes right into Southern Cross every 15 minutes. If I'm in town I might be able to pick you up and drive you back home. Otherwise its about a 30 minute walk, or a 5-10 minute bike ride into town (yes you can borrow a bike!). Taxi from the station would also be an option, its about 3km by road so I guess it might cost $15 ? Other Things to NoteI am still finishing the landscaping and establishing a native lawn so there are sprinklers which go on periodically. Also there isn't any cable internet in the house, but if you have a phone or dongle there is good reception for Telstra, Optus also has reception but I havent used it myself. Not sure about Vodafone. There is no TV but there is a big screen for DVDs and a good stereo.

The SpaceTwo spacious bedrooms, large walk in shower, fully functional kitchen with marble bench tops and dishwasher. Two reverse cycle air-conditioners and two wood burners (small daily charge if using firewood from shed), large flat screen TV in lounge, TV in master bedroom. City dwellers please note that this property is on the edge of a small quiet country town which is awesome for relaxing in comfort and getting closer to nature however there is NO WIFI provided (the reception for all the main mobile providers is good). The town of Harcourt has a wonderful character and it only has one store, one petrol station, a Post Office and a Motel. Its possible to easily walk to either of them however to access the other larger towns in the are such as Castlemaine or Bendigo you would be best to have a car. I recommend that you check a map online to get clear where Harcourt is in relation to these towns as we have had people low score the location and I would prefer that you are fully clear on where you are headed before booking. Large country block complete with 3 Alpaca's and a pet sheep. Can accommodate Pets such as dogs as long as they are kept under control and pose no threat to the local livestock, if they are to be allowed inside they will need to be kept on the hard floors and not in the bedrooms especially not on the beds. Children are welcome however please note this is a rural property and there is both adventure and possible risks for children! Specific known risks If you use fireplaces be aware there are no child protection screens that can be placed in front of them. Creek running through property is not fenced and can have deep water and weeds/other plant material present. Cleaning products in cupboard under sink in kitchen and on shelves in laundry. Power sockets in living and bedroom areas (note all protected by RCD's at mains) Alpaca's are timid around humans however we suggest that children are under supervision when in the paddock. Guest AccessBase rate is for one person or a couple, if there are two singles and wanting to use both beds then please book for three people. You will have use of the whole house as described above which can accommodate 2 couples or combination of 4 people across two bedrooms with queen bed in each. Interaction with GuestsYou will either be met when you arrive (or arrangements made so you can access the house if we are not around or you have a late arrival) we provide basic pantry goods. There is a guest guide detailing information on most of the items you will use as well as some basic information on local attractions and eateries. The NeighborhoodHarcourt is the premier apple and cider centre of Victoria and also has a thriving cherry and wine industry. Quiet country town that used to be on the main route from Melbourne to Bendigo and is now just a short diversion off the Calder Freeway. There is a quirky local store, fuel station, Cidery's, Winery's and a very unique place called Woop Woop which while you will need to book is guaranteed to entertain. Getting AroundHarcourt is easiest accessed by car and Castlemaine has an excellent train service, you can either get a bus (three times a day) or Taxi out. Other Things to NoteThis is a rural property on the outskirts of a small town and there are often early morning bird calls. We do not provide WiFi however there is generally good coverage for the major cellular providers.

Outdoors: The Diggers Store Bed and Breakfast offers a relaxing country-side experience. The property boasts a small fruit tree orchard, a kitchen garden, rose bushes galore, a 60 year old grapevine canopy, and a wee brood of hens. - A Brief History - The Diggers’ Store store was established in Campbells Creek in 1857. Today it remains a well-known heritage icon in Castlemaine and the surrounding area. A gentleman named William Wood was granted the land in order to set up a gold-mining supplies store to fulfill the needs of the growing town. (Hence the name The Diggers Store!) Gold had been discovered in the area in 1851 and within two years more than five thousand miners were living in a shanty-town that stretched along the Creek. The stable, once housing Mr. Wood’s horses and hay, was carefully and respectfully converted in to a two-story dwelling in the early 1990s in order to set it up as a bed and breakfast. Alex and Tina re-opened The Diggers Store B&B in late 2013. Alex grew up on the property where his parents once ran an antiques store, a devonshire tea house, and ran the B&B. Alex and Tina have also set up an all-analogue recording studio on the property, Sound Recordings, they run a pop-up art space, record store, and coffee shop in the original diggers store, and they recently opened up their property for private functions and creative projects. The SpaceI've recently finished building my first (well, hopefully!) solar passive house and I welcome you to come and stay. The house is double glazed, I have used sustainable timbers throughout (e.g. bamboo, plantation scandanavian pine) and it has a modern kitchen with gas oven. You are welcome to make yourself at home here, I welcome people who want to cook up a storm, or just relax at home and head out to enjoy the foodie delights of the Castlemaine / Maldon / Daylesford region. Your bedroom has a comfy queen size bed, built in wardrobe, and reading light. The place is right on the southern border of Castlemaine and Campbells Creek and looks down towards Daylesford from its position nestled on the hill. On (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps it is listed as being in Campbells Creek. I have two rooms for rent so sometimes you will be sharing with another (carefully chosen interesting open minded) person! Guest AccessAccess is to the whole house except the other bedrooms, there are two bathrooms so depending on whether i have another guest / housemate, you might be sharing a bathroom or have one to yourself. There is abundant solar heated hot water. As well as your bedroom there is a private study, I use this sometimes so if I'm home we would be sharing it. Interaction with GuestsI've only just started hosting, so it would depend on how much I am around. I am often quite busy with my work in Melbourne so it depends on the day if I'll be around or not. When I am at home I am generally in and out or I might be working in the garden or round the house, I'm happy to help with advice on things to do and places to eat, and we might also share a meal if it flows. The NeighborhoodCastlemaine is a great down to earth, creative town... the joint is literally packed with artists and has a growing foodie / organics culture. Other Things to NoteThere isn't any cable internet in the house, but if you have a phone or dongle there is good reception for Telstra, Optus also has reception but I havent used it myself. Not sure about Vodafone. There is no TV but there is a big screen for DVDs and a good stereo.

Just a coach ride away from the bustle of the goldfields Claremont remembers a gentler time from two centuries ago. Breakfast on the upstairs deck while you wonder if you really heard the soft neighing of ghostly horses who kept you company Claremont Coach House is exactly what it says, an eighteen seventies coach house and stables but nicely restored as a double storied cottage for guests who want to step back into Australian history. Private and unique it has the charm of its many years, but reasonably modern facilities. (Well last century perhaps.) Wander through the spacious grounds of the stately home. Then try and decide whether to drift through your day, with maybe a gentle walk to and through the nearby Botanic Gardens, or muster the energy to make an expedition into Castlemaine, or the countrside. The old goldfields town is bustling again these days with the new gold of tourism. The stylish cafes, restaurants and pubs vie for your trade, but somehow a little more gently than Melbourne. Visit a mine, or a ruin, climb a mountain (Mt Alexander is the most gentle of mountains), ride a horse, or a bike. There are some wonderful walks on the Great Dividing Trail, often along the line of the old irrigation system, a quaint surprise that winds its way through central Victoria. Take the kids on the easy walks and make sure you have a picnic. Then again if you are a pioneer, exhaust yourself on the mountain trails and good luck to you. Maldon, Bendigo, Daylesford, or Ballarat are just a four-in-hand coach ride away if you want to be really adventurous. It might be easier to take the train, (steam train to Maldon), or even your car. But make sure you are back in time for a quiet 19th century evening at Claremont Coach House where time moves graciously and mysteriously. Historic, they don't build coach houses anymore. Private, set in the grounds of my wife's stately home, Claremont. Natural, you are in a garden, in the country and in the bush. Relaxed, time moves more slowly here. Adventure, there are a host of activities nearby.

The Potager is an historic 1870's sandstone cottage in the heart of the central victorian goldfields. Added to and restored over the years the cottage revolves around a superb living area with exposed stone walls, huge open fireplace, slate floors, floor to ceiling glass doors that open out onto a terrace and a 20m swimming pool beyond which lies The Potager Garden. The garden was originally laid out in a semi formal design with stone walls, winding paths and raised beds full of roses, herbs and perrenials. The whole rich and fragrant tapestry is lined on each side by espaliered apple and pear trees. Situated alongside Forrest Creek which was one of the richest alluvial goldfields in the 1850's, the valley exudes an atmosphere of peace and tranquility with lots of walking trails and an abundance of wallabies, kangaroos and colourful rosellas, parrots and little bush birds The Potager is an ideal spot for a weekend of adventure or a cosy retreat for reflection and for reviving jaded spirits. The Potager is nestled beside the historic Forrest Creek where 1850's Goldrush began. This 1870's sandstone cottage is set on 4 acres with a swimming pool and potager garden, a place to sit and reflect or enjoy with the company of friends and family.

A Brief History -The Diggers' Store store was established in Campbells Creek in 1857. Today it remains a well-known heritage icon in Castlemaine and the surrounding area.A gentleman named William Wood was granted the land in order to set up a gold-mining supplies store to fulfill the needs of the growing town. (Hence the name The Diggers Store!) Gold had been discovered in the area in 1851 and within two years (phone number hidden) miners were living in a shanty-town that stretched along the Creek.
