The SpaceThe house comfortably accommodates 4-6 people, with a bedroom with a queen-sized bed that overlooks the lake, and another bedroom with two twin-sized beds that can be put together as one...We have a very comfortable brand new foldout futon to accomodate additional guests on indoor sun porch overlooking the lake!! There is ample space to hang out, enjoy time with family and friends or find solitude. A small sunroom on the upper level is an enjoyable cozy spot to read a book, play music or even sleep a child or two. There is an upstairs living room, with a working gas fireplace for the colder months, and a separate downstairs living room with a couch, chair, coffee table and foosball.
On the dock, there is a table for outdoor dining (our favorite spot) and lounge chairs. A small pool can be set up to give kids another option for playing in the water.
There are two adjoining bathrooms, one full with a shower/tub bath and one half with a toilet. The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven/stove, microwave, dishwasher, blender, toaster, and some basic cooking supplies.
This is a family home that our grown children and their young children spend ample time in over the course of the year and we are happy to rent it to guests who are responsible, will take care of our home away from home, and are interested in taking advantage of the beauty and outdoor fun that Lake Bomoseen and the surrounding area have to offer. The NeighborhoodThe house is a 5-minute drive to Castleton, home to the Castleton Country Store, which has a great selection of well-priced wine and beer, Depot cafe is a must, delicious food and sweet treats, and the Castleton Diner. Just up the road, the Lakehouse Restaurant offers food and drinks with waterfront views,currently under construction, the palms at prospect bay golf course just down the road is wonderful. Fishtails bar and restaurant, the Trak Inn, The Iron Lantern. Shawn in Fair Haven is the nearest full grocery store.
Rutland city center is a 20-minute drive, Middlebury is 30 minutes away, Killington ski area is 30 minutes, and Manchester outlet shopping is a 45-minute drive away. Getting AroundIt is essential to have a car to get around. However, there is an Amtrak track train station conveniently located a mere 10 minutes away from the house, at the Castleton train stop or in Rutland, which is 20 minutes away. Other Things to NoteThree kayaks are available to guests, as well as well as inner tubes and other water toys. There is easy access to swimming (from the dock, and nearby Crystal Beach or Bomoseen State Park), as well as great hikes, road and mountain biking, and a nearby golf course down the road at Prospect Point. The downstairs dock and upper deck are perfect for private yoga/meditation sessions, especially in the morning. For birdwatchers, ducks often swim by, a local blue heron regularly lands on the raft, and a family of bald eagles lives on nearby Neshobe Island.
For indoor entertainment, there is ample space to enjoy the company of friends and family as well as a DVD player, a game station, and a foosball table.
