For those who seek a break from city life... Who are looking for a "hide-away" off the beaten track on the Central Coast of California. Wellspring is isolated enough both geographically and technologically to offer this...exclusive (no neighbors) and hidden (not visible from any road), and auspiciously nestled in a no-cell-phone zone (no texting)...yet only a 20 minute drive to famous Coast Highway 1 (south 4 hours to LA, north 4 hours to SF.) Guests have immediate access on the Ranch to: miles of casual, or more challenging, hiking and biking trails; appointed gardens and ponds providing numerous rest, reading, picnic spots; and yoga facilities. Accommodations are unpretentiously chic and homey: our rooms and cabanas have private baths, there is one sparkling new Airstream trailer. There is a communal "Accueil" where guests can chat, read or snuggle up in front of a fire on a winter's day. Farm fresh breakfast is prepared and served al fresco year round. Unlike many B&Bs in the area, that favor a crowd seeking pretentious luxury amidst the Wineries, or the numerous fussy mom and pops, we offer the best of two worlds- earthy and chic, comfortable and compelling. Wellspring is a gateway to a special corner of the planet: unspoiled California coastal ranch land. Like other B&Bs, Wellspring is very accessible for off-ranch destinations famous to this area of sand dunes, oaks and castles, including sea kayaking, surfing, golfing, horseback riding, shopping, wineries, dining...

Please view our Photos to get a good idea of what the Beach House has to offer. We look forward to having you stay with us, and wish you a wonderful vacation! Cayucos by-the-Sea is located on California's scenic Central Coast, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Cayucos sits quietly between the Pacific Ocean and the rolling hillsides of open ranch-land and is what some people call "the last of the California beach towns." Listen to the quiet and stillness that only a small town in an untouched countryside can provide. Cayucos is the perfect remedy for those who suffer from the ills and frustrations of life in the fast lane in our crowded cities. Peaceful, underdeveloped ranch-lands with cattle grazing on undulating, oak-crested hills provide a respite for the city weary. There is virtually no city noise, no traffic, no pollution and no crime in Cayucos Cayucos is a California original. Born during the days of Spanish land grants, Cayucos grew up with sailing ships and steamers, rum runners and revenuers. Gamblers and seafarers met in the Old Cayucos Tavern, and adventurers and romantics af all kinds still meet there today. Cayucos, the tiny beach town that sits at the foot of the hills with its toes in the sand, awaits you and your exploration. So relax and come see what Cayucos has to offer you.

The SpaceWhether you want to get out of the city for a weekend or spend some weeks immersing yourself in a dream life... If you’ve ever driven the 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles, you’ve driven through Cayucos, though you might not have noticed. We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, where the wide beaches of Southern California give way to the rocky beaches of Northern California and commutes include seeing dolphins and migrating whales. We’re just 4 hours from either SF or LA (via Highway 101), a stone’s throw from Montaña de Oro, and only an hour south of Big Sur. Our ecological ranch, focused on self-sufficiency and sustainability, is situated right off Highway 1 on top of a hill immediately overlooking Whale Rock Reservoir and, only 2 miles to the west, the Pacific Ocean. The Airstream is comfortable for two people and shares property with the main house that we live in. We keep chickens for eggs, a raised vegetable garden for food, and a drought-resistant native succulent garden, landscaped with recycled materials, for pleasure. There are two cats on the property, but not allowed in the trailer. Birds, rabbits, deer and the occasional bobcat come and go as they please on the 25 acres. We compost, take short showers, and turn off the water when we brush our teeth, and we hope you will, too. Welcome! Guest AccessGuests have access to bath and kitchen amenities from towels to tea. There is an outdoor grill. In addition, an umbrella and beach-going items are located in a shed near Little Gem. If you'd like to go canoeing, please ask us about our canoe (life-vests and paddles)! Feel free to mine us for local knowledge -- where to surf, hike, and eat! Interaction with GuestsWe're into surfing, hiking, cooking, and doing it ourselves. We love having friends over for dinner as much as we love a quiet evening watching the stars come out. Your space is your space, but as on these country roads, we always greet each other in passing. The NeighborhoodWorld-class surfing, good food, and a thriving local art scene make San Luis Obispo county an up-and-coming hub. In true country fashion, we have strong relationships with our neighbors, even if we don't see each other that often. We go into town for the necessities regularly. On your visit, you should definitely spend time in the nature, whether on the immediately wide sandy beaches of Cayucos or a little further afield in Montaña de Oro or Big Sur (Bixby Bridge, Ventana Wilderness, Julia Pfieffer Burns State Park). There's always a new hill to climb or vista to see! Getting AroundBuses come through Cayucos, "the last California beach town," three times daily, but our ranch is still two miles away. If you do arrive by public transit, we could arrange a pick-up in town. The drive from San Luis Obispo is easy and parking on the ranch is free. From SLO Airport, it's an easy 30 minute drive north. The Space**PLEASE NOTE: We can only take reservations up to three months in advance. Within walking distance to miles of beach and to downtown (0.3 mile or 5-7 minutes walk). View of the ocean from the bedroom, and view of the hills and the town from the kitchen/dining area. Sound of the ocean can be heard at nights. Fabulous sunsets. Stairs: Please note that the unit is on a lower level which is accessed by an exterior 13-stepped staircase. If you have problems with stairs, this place may not be suitable for you. Noise: the house is over highway CA-1. Noise does not bother me and most of my guests. However, it does bother some. So if you are noise-sensitive, this place is not suitable for you. Hills: There are two ways to get to the beach from the house. (1) Heading North is about 0.3 mile, but you will have to negotiate a short but steep downhill (and uphill on the way back from the beach). Heading south is about 0.4 mile, a bit longer the distance but the hill is not as steep. I am in my 50s, and I run up and down that hill with my dogs twice everyday. However, it seems some of my guests have problem with the hill and suggest me to give "warning" about the hill. I suggest that you go to the beach heading North (downhill) toward E st. and then go home on the same direction (North) from the other end on Park street. That way you would go up on a less steep hill. And you may pick up some grocery stuff on the way home too as the grocery store, Cayucos Market, is at the corner of Park and Ocean blvd. Guest AccessWifi accessible; Deck on the main house for viewing the sunset (or sunrise if up early enough). Outdoor shower furnished with dog wash station for you and your dog to rinse off when returning from the beach. Interaction with GuestsWe will leave you alone in your own space. However, if you need anything, just text or knock on our door. We are right on the upper floor. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is extremely safe. Very nice people who love dogs. Super convenient: Post Office, Restaurants, pharmacy, liquor store, grocery store, churches, pub/club, wine tasting rooms, Deli shops, coffee shop, convenient store, the famous butter brown cookies, and Ruddell's Smokehouse ... all are within walking distance. However, do note that it is a small beach town. So most business close at 5 or 6 pm. Grocery store close at 8 pm, but you do have liquor/convenient stores close at a later time. Getting AroundYou do need a car. Other Things to NoteThe local supermarket is less than 0.4 mile from the house (about 10 minute walk), next to the Catholic church and across street from Sea Shanty restaurant. Also, check out the Brown Butter cookies company. The best cookies in the world. The grocery store close at 8 pm everyday. Most business (post office, pharmacy, deli shops,,,) close early (5 or 6 pm). Restaurants close at 9 pm on weekdays and 10 pm on weeknights. Cayucos Tavern/ pub is the only place that opens late. It has live music and pool hall.
