Parks (1hr 20 minutes to the north), and a 35 minute drive to Brian Head Ski resort, and Cedar Breaks Natl. Monument. Hiway 14 is the road to Duck Creek, Cedar Mountain and eventually Hiway 89 and is just two blocks away from the cottage. Here you will find beautiful aspen forests, fishing streams, ponds and lakes, ATV off roads, and lots of hiking trails. There are 5 National Parks and many State Historical areas (think Ghost Towns, Old Forts, Native American & Petroglyph sites) all within an easy drive. After exploring our vast and rich area, you can return home to the comfort and charm of your own little cottage. A stay in our exquisite little "Jewel Box" of a cottage will leave you feeling relaxed and nurtured, and wanting to return again & again. We hope you will! Here, You Are Family. Guest AccessWhen you stay at one of our cottages we hope that you will explore the 1/3 acre of beautiful gardens, shady patios and the hidden nooks and crannies that surround the cottages. Perhaps you'll want to sit by the fire pit, roast marshmallows and gaze at the stars. Find a quiet, shady spot to read a book or take a nap in our Aero chair. If you are a guest during the growing season, we invite you to sample any of the veggies from our garden (think fresh juicy, ripe tomatoes, salad fixings, broccoli, squash, beans, peppers and whatever else strikes our taste buds). Enjoy fruit from our famous Apple tree in the fall, as well as cherry, pear and apricot trees. We also have grapes and strawberries ripe for the picking during the summer if the birds don't beat you first! Winter guests often enjoy building a snowman in the yard, or tossing a few snow balls around. You can go sledding on the hill by the high school right in town. BrianHead resort is a short 35 minutes away with full on amenities for skiing, snowboarding, tubing and snow mobile excursions. Utah does have incredible snow so come and visit us in the winter too! Whatever season finds you our guests, we invite you to treat the home and property as your own.....because as our motto says: "Here, You're Family"! Interaction with GuestsWe hope to greet every guest upon their arrival. It's important for us to know who is staying in our cottage, and for you to know that we care about our property and your experience while our guest(URL HIDDEN) We do not live at the property but are less than a mile away and are usually available to answer questions, give directions and make recommendations if desired. We can be as available or not depending on your own preference. We want you to think of our cottage as your own private retreat while you are here. And anything we can do to enhance your experience is our pleasure. Remember, "Here, You're Family" The NeighborhoodOur cottage is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Cedar City and you can walk to just about everything from the front door. Additionally, there is local bus service should you be without a car and need to travel farther than our historical downtown area. There is also a shuttle bus that operates during the winter that goes directly to Brian Head Ski Resort in the event you prefer not to drive the 35 minutes it takes to get there or if driving in snow is not for you. Cedar City is the perfect town for walking and exploring it's charming neighborhoods, and the cottage is in the perfect location to do just that. Getting AroundCedar City is a small town by many standards yet provides just about everything you might need while on vacation. And our cottage is located right in the heart of the downtown historical area where you can explore the interesting shops and restaurants along Main St. A city bus can take you to the outlying areas ( Walmart for example) or The Aquatic Center to enjoy our fabulous community pools. A car is necessary for exploring our unique outdoor areas. We are available should you need a short ride somewhere or wish to explore some of the hidden gems that Steve knows about. Additionally there is shuttle service from Las Vegas, St. George, and Salt Lake City. We can provide additional information about getting around our area and are happy to help make your time here a perfect experience. Remember- "Here you are Family! Other Things to NoteOn short stays we usually don't charge a cleaning fee like most places. Instead we hope you will help us by doing 3 small things before you leave. This really helps in our cleaning the cottages after you leave so we can leave it as spotless for our next guest just as when you arrived. 1. Please put all towels, bedding, robes, and any other linens you have used in the basket in the closet. If you'd like to take the sheets off the bed, that would be wonderful too! It's not necessary to make the bed as we will be changing the bedding for our next guests. 2. Please wash up any dishes you have used the morning of your departure and leave them in the dish drainer on the counter. We will put them away for you :-) 3. Please remove all garbage from the cottage and place it in the large trash cans at the top of the driveway. We will replace the liners- no need for you to do that either. We thank you for taking the few extra minutes to tidy up which really helps us and saves you some money in cleaning fees. After all our motto is : Here ~ You are Family!ii

The SpaceROOM IS THE EXACT SIZE OF A TWIN BED, NO FLOOR SPACE! This is a tiny room under a stairway (Harry Potter style). It has a LCD wall mounted TV with cable at the foot of the bed. There is wireless internet (very fast). Bed is a twin mattress and very comfortable. There is a small cubby-hole at the foot of the bed, and a wall mounted laptop stand that swings out allowing AWESOME access while sitting in bed. There is a closet outside the entry door which can be used to securely store your belongings. Note: This room is about the exact size of a twin bed mattress. I.e. you enter and you are ON THE BED. No room to do anything more than lay or sit on the bed. It is very similar to the Japanese style capsule hotel room that are prevalent in Tokyo. If you get claustrophobic this room is NOT for you. This room is one of several in the home. Some rooms are occupied by male or female college students on a semester long basis. These college students often play the role of "host" in my absence. The home has a great back yard with BBQ, gas fire pit and outdoor furniture. There is also a nice new hot tub but we do not always keep it heated. Living room has two very nice leather couches and a big flat screen TV mounted over the fireplace. The kitchen is small but well equipped. Laundry room can be used by guests. Guest AccessGuest can access adjacent bathroom with tub/shower, toilet and sink. Billiards room, backyard with gas BBQ, fire pit and outdoor furniture. Living room with big screen TV, dining table and kitchen. Interaction with GuestsThis room is one of several in the home. Some rooms are occupied by male or female college students on a semester long basis. These college students often play the role of "host" in my absence. The NeighborhoodThis neighborhood rocks. It is mostly commercial except our little pocket of 14 townhouses. Therefore everything is within walking distance of a few minutes. Tons of fast food and nice restaurants are within a block or two. The Cinema 8 theaters are just across the street as is Golds Gym and the great Wingers restaurant. There is Sushi, BBQ etc. all 2 to 3 minutes walking distance. Walmart is a 5 minute walk to the south and Southern Utah University (SUU) is 1 mile to the North. This is where all the Shakespeare events and Utah games take place. DRIVING TIMES TO NATIONAL PARKS & MORE Cedar Breaks National Monument (23 mi / 37 km): 35 min Brian Head Resort (31 mi / 50 km): 40 min Parowan Gap Petroglyphs (31 mi / 50 km): 40 min Zion Nation Park (58 mi / 93 km): 1 h Bryce Canyon National Park (77 mi / 124 km): 1 h 30 min Las Vegas (170 mi / 274 km): 2 h 25 min Grand Canyon National Park (156 mi / 251 km): 2 h 50 min The Wave Trail (Kanab) (129 mi / 209 km): 2 h 50 min Getting AroundThere is a city bus and inexpensive taxi service (about $5.00 anywhere in town). But who needs it when you are a few minute walk from most everything? There is a shuttle that goes to Brian Head for a fee if you want to Ski/Snowboard. Plenty of parking on the street if you need it. Other Things to NoteThere is a sales/lodging tax imposed by State / City of 11.30% (for rentals under 30 days) that has been included in the price. The Space"The Apple Cottage" located in downtown Cedar City, Utah is a unique property available for rent by the night, week or month. Built in 1895 as a wedding present for the Mayors' Daughter, this historical home is one of the few houses still standing built before the turn of the century. Over the past 120 years, the home has seen a number of owners and renovations (ours included) and is now a completely renovated and lovingly restored Pioneer Guest home with all the modern conveniences of today, yet still retaining much of its original charm and character. The Apple Cottage is registered on the National Register of Historical Homes. Normally, each year from May through October this cottage becomes home to the talented Directors and Designers from The Utah Shakespearean Festival and is not available to rent. However, this year for the first time we are excited to have it available for those of you wishing to visit Cedar City in the summer. Whether you're here to explore the Nat'l Parks or attend the Shakespeare Festival, The Apple Cottage can accommodate you in luxury and style. We've had so many requests for the summer months that we decided to share this unique property. Be sure to book early as It will fill up fast. Additionally, we have just opened a new vacation rental home called "The Homestead- a Farmhouse Retreat "- located just 4 blocks away on the same street. It's also 3 bedrooms & 2 baths in a 2 story 1930's home full of it's own unique charm and character. If the dates you are looking for are unavailable at The Apple Cottage, just contact us through Air Bnb and we can make reservations for you at our new property. Now, more about The Apple Cottage: The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 living areas, and a huge country kitchen. Every room has been lovingly decorated with quality furnishings unique to each room and the time period it represents. "The Parlour" is lovely bedroom with bay windows located at the front of the house with a very comfortable sleigh double bed, quality linens and a working Pioneer Wood Burning Stove. It is richly decorated in warm shades of earth browns and tans, with just the right amount of whimsy. You might find our escapee bird. The "Robin's Nest" is a twin bedded room in the softest shade of Robin's egg blue with warm chocolate brown and tan accents. There are two twin beds in this room, a desk area plus a relaxing reading corner complete with a selection of books to keep you busy. Vintage art and a 1920's Puff Silk Quilt add just the right touch of yesterday to this lovely room. The "Master" bedroom is quite large and private, located at the back of the house, and has a wonderfully comfortable Queen Bed, sitting area and its own attached bathroom with double sink vanities, stall shower and toilet area. The other bathroom (called "The Pippin Bath" for its bright green apple color) is very large and boasts the original claw foot tub for long soaks after a day of exploring the unique southwest. Please note, this is "soaking" bathtub and not a stand up shower. There is a hand held shower nozzle for rinsing off after that long, luxurious soak but it is not a regular shower stall. Other Things to NoteWe do accept well behaved pets with the expectation that you will be a responsible pet owner and participate in any clean up necessary. We have a pooper scooper and a soft dog bed. There is a pet fee of $20-30 depending on the size of your pet and length of stay. We can provide sheets to cover the couches or the bed if your pet insists upon sleeping with you. We ask that you take your dog (preferably on a leash) to the back garden rather than using the lawn. We work hard every year to maintain our gardens and keep everything pristine. And we ask that you don't leave your loved animal alone in the house or in the gardens. There are just too many unique things that can get ruined. We have a crate if you need one, and we can provide pet sitting and walks for an additional fee. Please let us know about your pet so we can determine if it's a good match and how to best plan for your pet's stay. Thanks for understanding!

We like to think of Red Door Lodging as a “Make Your Own Bed and Breakfast.” A pancake breakfast starter kit and a coffee/hot cocoa starter pack is our gift to you upon your arrival. The kitchen is stocked with the amenities you will need to make your stay both enjoyable and economical. There is even a crock pot so you can have something delicious waiting for you when you get back from your hike, trip to Zion National Park, or many of the other activities that are available here. The furnishings are comfortable, yet not overwhelming. Things are decorated tastefully without going overboard. We believe that people are looking for nice, clean accommodations that are close to the places that they want to go to. Southern Utah University and both theater festivals are a few blocks away. At 5857 feet above sea level, Cedar City has much more moderate temperatures in the summer compared to its more well known neighbor 50 miles south, St. George, Utah. This equates to beautiful evenings that can be spent in the open-air seating of several of the Shakespeare plays put on each year during the world famous Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival, which now includes a fall schedule. They also have indoor productions if that is more to your liking. The Neil Simon Festival also has plays during the summer which are held indoors at the Heritage Center (about 3.5 blocks away) during July and August. As you can tell from the photos, we have not done any landscaping yet. We hope that you did not want to come to southern Utah to look at our landscaping. So, it looks a little stark on the outside, but is nice and homey on the inside. We have had a lot of rentals, but this is our second year into the vacation rental business. We feel like we are offering a good alternative to people looking for nice accommodations without having three connecting motel rooms with no kitchen. Of course you will have to make your own bed and breakfast, but sometimes you just don't want to eat with people you don't know. If you are wondering how far away some of these world class attractions are here is a list of some of the most popular ones: Utah Shakespeare Festival- .45 miles (about 4 1/2 blocks) Neil Simon Festival- .27 miles (about 3 1/2 blocks) St. George, Utah- 52 miles, (about 50 minutes) Las Vegas, Nevada- 170 miles, about 2 hours, 30 minutes Brian Head Ski Resort; 33 miles, about 45 minutes Lake Powell- 155 miles, about 3 hours Cedar Breaks National Monument- 26 miles, about 40 minutes Bryce Canyon National Park- 80 miles, about 1 hour, 40 minutes Zion National Park- 60 miles, 1 hour, 15 minutes North Rim of the Grand Canyon- 169 miles, 3 hours, 30 minutes Zion Park, Kolob Canyons- 25 miles, 35 minutes There are a lot of other places to go in this part of the world and we must say that the sites are breathtaking and awe-inspiring! It seems like with the amount of snow we have received this year that Brian Head and the other ski resorts in Utah might be open past June. The Neil Simon Festival also has plays during the summer which are held indoors at the Heritage Center during July and August. Of course you will have to make your own bed and breakfast, but sometimes you just don’t want to eat with people you don’t know. You might come away a changed person with a new outlook on life. While you may come just to attend one of the festivals, there are things to do year-round here as well. It seems like with the amount of snow we have received this year that Brian Head and the other ski resorts in Utah might be open past June. After the snow is gone they have other things going on up in the cool night elevations of the mountains. Mountain biking, hiking, and lake fishing are always popular. If you are more adventurous, you might try renting a Harley and letting the wind blow through you hair as you look up at the majestic cliffs of Zion Park without the car roof blocking your view. 10% off for 3 nights 15% off for 4 nights 20% off for 5 nights 25% off for 6 nights 30% off for 7 nights 100 fully refundable damage deposit due at time of reservation. $60 +tax one-time cleaning fee for 3 bed/3 bath option. $40 +tax additional cleaning deposit if adding the basement for 4 bedroom/4 bath option.
